Are you kidding?
Congratulations to Pope Benedict Ratzinger XVI!

I look forward to seeing how he follows up Jean Paul the great.

After eliminating all the child molestors from the list of candidates I guess there weren't many left to choose from... so instead they pick an ex-nazi.

Are you serious? It took them all of 2 days to elect the worlds most important figure?? Pardon me, but don't you think they should spent a little more time on this?

I'm sure they know who they are electing, the people who had to vote all knew each other there and I'm sure this new pope already earned his stripes within the church.

I hope that was a joke though....

Even so, it's not like they see each other every day and know for sure who would make a great world leader. It's not like you go to work and say "You know...Bob would make a great world leader some day." It just don't work like that! lol I'm sure he did earn his stripes but so did others. In my opinion 2 days of debate isn't enough to make a decision like that, even with the pressure of the world on you. Mayhaps I should say the pressure of the media, but in either case I think it should have taken a wee bit longer. :indiff:

Ratzinger was the second power in church for years, and he made important decisions, because he was responsable for the "true and clean beliefs", lets say the
church rules ... I can't express it better in English, he was the head of a important part of the catholic kind of adminsitration... perhaps other gtp members know the correct term in English..., he was however not a nobody but clearly the second man for over 10 years or so....

I know that Catholic priests must lead lives of celibacy but then I ask myself, why do they even have a penis if they don't have any use of it (except piss) :dunce:

Powerful figure in Vatican

Once the archbishop of Munich, Germany, and for many years prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, Ratzinger, 78, was one of the most powerful men in the Vatican and is widely acknowledged as a leading theologian.

Ratzinger, who turned 78 on Saturday, served for 20 years as John Paul II's chief theological adviser.

As a young priest he was on the progressive side of theological debates but shifted to the right after the student revolutions of 1968.

In the Vatican, he has been the driving force behind crackdowns on liberation theology, religious pluralism, challenges to traditional moral teachings on issues such as homosexuality, and dissent on such issues as women's ordination.

The dean of the College of Cardinals since November 2002, he was elevated to cardinal by Pope Paul VI in June 1977.

I don't have a problem with Germans dumbass, every normal thinking German despises nazis as well. This new pope used to be in the Hitler jugend and he was also in the wehrmacht. Though my comment was meant in a joking manner, there is a sense of truth in it. He was 18 when the 2nd world war was over with, so I doubt he had much of an option besides joining the hitler jugend as a child... which was more or less as innocent as boy scouts, but the wehrmacht was the German army. So I do have to say that I doubt this man has any sympathy for the nazi ideas, but he used to be part of it. What I don't get is that my comment made a German laugh, yet you get your panties in a bunch about it.

Je opa was zeker NSB-er?

Nee mijn opa was dat niet:rolleyes: En dan nog, zou dat iets met mij te maken hebben??! No I didn't know that but since it's just his age, I think he was primarly forced into that Jugend thing

From what I have read...
Yes, he was in the Hitlerjugend. Although he would have been forced to join as a youth. He than left his post, something which was punishable by death

No, youth in Germany liked going to Hitler Jugend, because it gave them something to do.... it was like boyscouts, they'd do sports together and play games. They didn't see the evil in the system from their point of view. Hitler Jugend wasn't some type of division of the army, just an after school activity club.

He also was in the wehrmacht is what I heard, which was the German army. Most of those soldiers had no other option than going to war since refusal would be considered treason, unlike the SS which was higher ranked and considered the actual elite. Though I think that if you are really against a certain system, especially what a future pope should have been like, you'd rather die than collaborating.

But this pope has never tried to hide the fact that he was in the hitler jugend, so I doubt any of this history should really be taken seriously. I don't think he has any sympathy for the nazi regime, the nazi regime was also against the catholic church as well.

Let the spread of HIV continue. :irked:

I would have hoped they'd pick somone abit more 'with it'. But hey, I ain't Christian, it's only 1 Billion other people being bothered

thats all true. i am also german and found your post really funny, sarcastic yet with a little bit of truth.

seriously though, you can't blame someone for being in the hitler jugend, for the reasons you have mentioned and of course because they were all young boys, unconsious about what was going on and easy to impress.

regarding the wehrmacht, there is not much difference. all the soldiers were under the influence of propaganda and they would have been killed if they refused to follow orders.
one can't blame a single soldier. of course there is a choice and some people may prefer to be killed themselves instead of killing others, but most probably just want to stay alive. lots of soldiers tried to flee, some tried to help the jews while following orders, but most of them just tried to save themselves, their comrades and families. you can't really judge people under such conditions. of course we could say that if all the soldiers would have together refused to fight, then the nazis could not have done anything against it, but the nazis used fear and terror to make sure that no opposition could form. and there were the supporters and cruel soldiers who would make sure that everyone who did not follow was reported. its really difficult to understand all this what happened and why it happened.

so all in all ratzinger is of course not a nazi, but as i said there is little bit of truth in the comment, because ratzinger is very fundamentalistic...

And to think white smoke came out of the chimney the first time, then turned black... :D

Damn. No black Pope. I was looking forward to seeing black Pope characters in rap videos. Poop.

The new pope is only 6 years younger than the old pope.

Hmmm.

This sucks ass, dudes. Wrong guy. This is sad, just plain sad. I 'm not commenting the whole nazi thing but... come on. All the axperts say this guy is even MORE conservative than his predecessor. So still no "Willy use a billy boy" over 1 billion catholics around the world. Go on, overpopulate the earth. Why should I care, I'm long gone before things get out of hand.

I'm not that religiuos myself. And not catholic, anyway. But still I would like to see a progressive pope that would allow birth control for starters. I don't want my grandchildren to have to start a war for "lebensraum" or for clean water. Maybe that Nigerian guy would have understood it better. I don't know. Maybe I should stop worrying things too much.

Fu** this sh**. It's almost 2 am here. I'm going to bed. Try to get sleep despite this crazy world we live in.

Absolutely, bar-none, the most IMMATURE and moronic posts I have ever seen in a single thread on GTP. You four should be ashamed of yourselves. This man is now the leader of over a billion Catholics worldwide. Making fun of the way he looks, making assumptions about his lack of a sex life - and thus apparent potential for castration - and comparing him to the Emperor from Star Wars...great, guys. Just great. You've quadruple-handedly brought this forum - and indeed this entire website - to a new, stinking, reeking, rotten low. Grow up and stop acting like a bunch of children.

And don't bother responding with anything like, "Geez, relax" or "Take a pill," because this is not a joke and I'll not have it.

And I'm NOT Catholic, for the record. Not even close. I just recognize when respect should be given, and when people are acting like idiots.
