New Seasonal: NR-A Roadster Cup

My thinking was that this Miata, Eunos, MX-5, Roadster race series would have been much better if it were done as an Expert Series of races with tighter restrictions on hp and tires. That way, there would have been more of a challenge to find the right car/setup to win with. Sure, we can challenge ourselves, like others are doing in this thread, but there is something to be said for having to complete a challenge by someone else's rules. ;)

I remember way back in the beginning when they had the RX-7 challenge. I spent a good amount of hours tuning that RX-7 to finally win 1st place and it was such an exhilirating feeling when I passed that final car for the victory on SS5. 👍

I don't remember if I got the chance to win all 5 races before they took it down, as each track required a different tuning for me, and in some of them, I only managed 2nd or worse. I also liked the payout structure where you would get the cr/xp for every place below where you finished the first time. 👍

This. +1 👍

I went to the GT5 Mazda Dealership this morning, and I was floored to see no Mazda Miata amongst all those cars, WTH? (Currently Grinding B-Spec until next seasonal or DLC hopefully sometime in 2011)

Yes, only 2 Eunos Roadsters and 1 Roadster can be bought at the Mazda dealership. All others are Used cars.

Mazda Eunos Roadster (NA Special Package) '89
Mazda Eunos Roadster J-Limited (NA) '91
Mazda Roadster RS (NC) '07

There are 3 for sale in the new car dealership. They don't have the "Miata" name tag on them but they are Miatas.

EDIT. I see Speedracer posted above.

Thought I would try a bone stock Mazda Roadster RS (NC) '07 from the new car dealership at Tsukuba and just put sport hards on to be the same as the rest of field. No mods of any kind. Had one in my garage from early in the game.

Mazda Roadster RS (NC) '07

I knocked this together last night, stock Roadster with custom HKS sourced springs and Sport Hard tyres. Entertaining ride...

It took me a few tries but won. It was a really close race. Did not pass the leader until the final straight. Don't really get people saying these events are a pushover. If you don't max out the PP allowed, these races can be quite fun. Maybe I'm just slow compared to most others. :guilty:

Did the exact same thing and I had a run for my money.... 1st race I won by 0.018 and the next race by 0.060! The reason, I think, I didn't mess it up on the last laps, was because I didn't use HUD and therefore wasn't aware of which lap I was on and what time I was heading for.... Made it so rewarding when I suddently saw the "Finish" sign and that I unawaringly had won by such a close margin, 2 times in a row!

Just tried the Autumn Ring Mini with the stock Roadster and got my *** whooped. Finished 4th about 13 seconds behind the leader. :grumpy:

May have to try CyKosis1973 set-ups above.

Will try one more time or two to see how much I improve before modding.

I'll have to give that a try tonight. 👍

Thanks for the set-up specs CyKosis1973. 👍

Looks like I'll be trying them out shortly.

My pleasure. It'll be interesting to see how you do on SSR5, you've got to run it as clean as possible and you'll probably still come 2nd, I do, more often than not..!! Around the other tracks you can get away with a few Touring Car bumps and scrapes. Quite a lot of fun around the Kart track... :mischievous:

Am I the only one here that is super pumped about the new seasonal?
Yes. I also would prefer a bit more of a challenge, with higher XP. I could care less about credits.
You can easily bump those by B-Spec grinding.

+1

The whining is a bit ridiculous, it's a great car driven and raced competitively by non-hairdressers the world over. So it doesn't have 400 horsepowers or the most "masculine" look, big deal. It's 1,000,000 times nicer than a minivan or a giant sedan or 99% of SUVs.
My only stupid complaint is yet another race at Tsukuba. :P

It's not as if the MX5 HASN'T got any Aspec races already!! The NSX has NO events, there's LOADS of cars that don't have events. Yet PD have just rolled out MORE for the MX5.

I'd like a seasonal of the Evo V Subaru, Or how about Corvette V Viper? Or how about Japanese cars with a hp cap of 280hp? There's an almost limitless array of events that PD could do with the cars in GT5, yet they consistently show no imagination.

Yeah that's a valid point and It's bothered me all through the game, always the same cars, generally not-so-exciting ones... not so much concerned about the MX-5 events particularly, there's only 2 I think. But clearly PD's seasonals are 95% just extended versions of the A-Spec events & I don't see that changing soon.

It would be so easy to add so much more variety but they just don't seem to care.

I guess I just hear a lot of complaining about the car itself and finally decided to vent. I'll take a Miata over a Skyline any day.

I will agree the whining is annoying, and sure the Miata does have it's A-Spec events, and they could have used a endless variety of different tracks/cars.

But that being said, it is an optional event, meaning no one is forcing you to partake in it. Sure you win helmets/racing suits, whoopie.

/rant.

Evo vs Subaru +1:tup:. But any of those seasonals sound good. Maybe you should send PD your Resume.

In all of GT Planet's fanbase, has anyone travelled to Japan , to talk with PD , in an open interview to ask questions everyone has on their minds? I tried that with EA once, but they turned me away.

...yet they consistently show no imagination.
What about the sport trucks on the Nürburgring? That was a class bit of initiative.

Anyway, maybe all of these ideas and possibilities will be coming our way at some point - have faith.

I'm having a lot of fun in the meantime 👍

I think I'll re-visit older currently open seasonals, and see if that can hold me over until the next great seasonal.

I just wish there was a Nürburgring seasonal for many more open cars and pp, other than just British Lightweights. (Mind you, I fell in love with many Lotus cars, and Spitfire all nicely tuned)

Besides schwarzwald league b (A Spec) which gives Ziltch for credits and XP compared to any seasonal, and 4hr Enduro just too long anymore, is there any event that I am missing that can give me rewarding gameplay on the Nürburgring with varied cars in 450-700 pp+ range?

Online I suppose?

I know it's only the Nürburgring GP but the Super GT seasonal pays 522,000 and has a load of cars you can throw at it. I've lost count of how many times I've run that one now - but an actual open event, only the Dream Car one from the championship. I know it's only a few laps really, but it does give you more scope in which car to use.

I have got all 31 cars for this event and am going to enjoy playing with the lot of them.

Ok, now, I'm not saying anything, OK, but.... I won all 5 (as most of you have) and got two suits and three helmets.

The three helmets were pink.

That's all.

Speaking of Autum Ring Mini, I just finished that one also with a stock Mazda Roadster '07 with sport hards fitted.

Initially I was way off pace ( +13 seconds). :ouch: Note to self: lap times dramatically improve once you keep the car from drifting all over the place! :sly:

Once I found the proper line around the track my race time improved to 6:02.839 which was good for second but still off the leader by about 5 seconds.

So I decided to try CyKosis1973's tune which only incorporates a suspension tune and nothing else. After a few more attempts I won the race with a winning time of 5:57.203. That's 5.6s quicker than my complete stock attempt. to CyKosis1973 for a nice tune. The car felt tighter, more composed.

Having won, I figured I'd try to win going back to a complete stock car. To my surprise, I did!! Twice more back to back!! Winning time 5:59.284.

I guess as a driver I improved through the numerous attempts.

Note: Winning pace by the AI drivers varied between 5:57.7XX to 6:04.5XX. So there is some luck of the draw so to speak.

Now off to Trial Mountain where I'll put the stock Mazda and CyKosis1973's tuned version to the test.....

It is actually 31 standards and 3 premiums.

3 each from: 89, 91, 97, 98, 00

6 each from: 93, 95, 04

And the one 2007 Roadster RS (NC). (10 more stock HP than any other.)

CBA to read 9 pages, is there a best preferred MX5 to tune/use please ?
Cheers

If you want a bone stock MX5 that can win (at least the first three races; haven't tried last two yet) on sport hard tires then go for the premium '07 roadster.

If you like to tune buy an older '89 miata.

BTW, CyKosis1973 has a nice suspension tune for the premium '07 roadster...page 7 or 8 of this thread. 👍

You're a Gentleman, Thankyou

Tried the Autumn Ring one last night. It's pretty hard to get in 1st, even with upgrades. I ended up in 4th. I probably just need a better car?
