Just about golded it by .005 of a second going round the outside of the last car in the final hairpin. Not my favourite challenge but it's done!

That Chaparral obstacle was annoying but got an acceptable result, after 180 km or so. Keep it in 4th through there...

So many collisions! :banghead:

Can I throw my wheel at the TV? Hmm... ;)

Stuck at silver. Like .6 seconds off from gold.

I tried taking the outside on the first corner and I just completely lose the car. (When I don't hit the other car or just understeer into the sand, anyway.)

My best laps always end up with that damned Ferrari 330 blocking me on the final corner. And usually I'm dumb enough to rear-end it instead of going around. :banghead:

Don't know how many times I retried this, but I'm at a wall right now. Maybe I'll try it again tomorrow.

Take the inside and stay in 3rd gear for an easier corner exit, then keep it tight on the left with a slight lift to stay tight for the right just missing the car as you cut in on the left. Brake hard for the hairpin then again, keep it tight near the cones on that double left for easier passing and go to the inside of that Ferrari. I think.

First time on GT in a couple of months and I get the opportunity to bag a free XJ13, noice. :P

Wasn't the hardest event ever, got it in about 8 goes. The key in my mind is to go completely banzai in the second part of the course, the car can really cope with it as long you can deal with oversteer. Nice challenge. :P

Iam .359 away form Gold. The Ferrari on the last corner is 🤬 me off. Its so slow on the racing line. I will get it gold. Even if means ruining Christmas Eve :boggled:

:gtplanet:

ha, yees just after writing above post, i golded it... (just)

I got 53:069 after about six tries.
Good, I thought, easy Gold.
Then I did it two thousand times more and couldn't clip the :069 off. Gave up before breaking something.

*shakes fist at distant PD.

"Merry Cursemas! Kaz, Merry Cursemas to you!"

Very pleased to report a Gold here after months way from the game.

I kept my Jag nice and tidy, and it took me a number of tries. They key for me was to pass the Chaparral at the crest with a big head of steam, get the Ford on the way up, then neatly stalk and pass the Ferrari on his right.

On some of ths videos I've watched people are passing the Chaparral at the top of that hill. I just can't get to it at that point. I'm always behind. I guess that first turn is the real key here and i just can't get it.

At the start, pass on the right going in to turn 1, braking late but staying neat and on the line. Feed in the power coming out, maybe shifting early. From there on its flat out to almost the crest. You can actually pass the Chaparral on either side. I used manual trans and TC1.

I'm not good with the MT yet. I may have to learn how to drive better using manual...

I nip past the 2D on the crest from both left and right (he changes to suit his mood according to how I'm approaching) but then my exit after the corner for a run at the Ford is always too slow.
If I manage to get past the Ford quick the Ferrari blocks me at the hard left into the finish line; the outer angle works best but I need to get at him faster so that my run to the finish line isn't slowed down.
I spent several hours on this today but not going back to it right away - so much other stuff to do in the game.

This whole event feels like a GT4 Mission. And I don't want to go back to that hell - I paid my dues. As soon as I grab Gold I'm out.
I'm enjoying the races at Apricot and Seca a lot more - can't get enough of playing with those rabbits; the more you play the more they learn to be aware of you . . . and can they play. They play this amazing game.

Okay . . . the guys in the white suits are heading this way. I'm out of here.

Do it. You will improve significantly because you'll have more control over the car. Take an entire week, forget about the stupid Seasonal Events or any online goofing around with friends. Just go out in Arcade Mode and practice with the manual over and over and over until you're sick of it. It needs to become second nature to you.

Yes...There are some absolute freaks of nature, like @WhoosierGirl, who can use an Automatic transmission and post a Top 10 time, but she's literally one in a million. There are probably a handful of others too, at that level, who use automatics, but I don't know their names so I can only mention WG. Trust me...If she could get comfortable with the Manual Transmission her times would improve. For how little she actually plays the game, that's pretty scary!

You're developing quite fine as a GT6 driver. I see your times and they're always improving and you should be very happy about that. Just don't allow yourself to get so developed that you become an old dog that can't be taught a new trick. Learn that manual tranny now. It's just like the people in the Seasonal Forum who insisted that I stop using the Driving Line when I was brand new here. I used to tell them "But I don't truly follow it. I brake much later than it tells me to....etc..." But they were right! It was still a distraction and it's going to subliminally influence my driving behavior. The best thing I ever did was turn that thing off.

Thanks man! Yeah just recently I've taken to just getting in a car and driving around the Nordschlife. Usually in one of my historic race cars, just for the fun of it in arcade mode doing a TT. I bet that would be a heck of a place to learn a manual on. Lol! I usex to hate that track but now it's really fun. The funny thing is, my real world car is a manual transmission. Lol! :)

I can't stand this :banghead::banghead::banghead: I'm at 53.122 and I can't do it with a DS3, it's not fair that PD does these for steering wheels and not for DS3 and not for the average player. I'm an above average driver but when I watch the replays, I don't get how they pass the cars so much sooner than me. I can barely catch the Ferrari at the last turn and he takes the inside line:mad: All the time. I know it's supposed to be hard but c'mon  :ouch: Sorry just frustrated :grumpy: I'm going to keep trying. I really want the car. Merry X-Mas ;)

Really like these overtake challenges. Nice credits and a great price car. Luckily didn't buy the XJ13 yet.

At the moment at a 0:51,471 with DS3 (ABS 1). Still some time to gain if I could just nail the first corner properly.

Current issue of Car & Driver (Jan '15) which tests the new Corvette Z06 says: "We tested both the automatic and manual Z06, the latter returning lower numbers than expected." (Pg. 037 sidebar)

Another snippet from pg. 034: "The Z06 we photographed was fully loaded with the Z07 package, Stage 3 carbon aero trim kit, and optional carbon-kablooey interior. As you can see, there's a Z06 for, well, if not exactly everyone, then a wider swath of humanity's more impatient drivers, all of whom will be swamped by admirers at parties. Prepare for the eager smiles of your audience to droop slightly when you say you bought the automatic as up to 70 percent of Z06 buyers are expected to do. This is a natural, instinctual disappointment, conditioned by the expectation that real sports cars have sticks, mounting evidence to the contrary notwithstanding."

(Emphasis mine)

We have been conditioned by those who like stuff engraved in stone, whether commandments or otherwise, to always believe what is safer to believe; what is believed by the majority and what is to be believed so as to be 'in the know.' (Back to the whole 'self-esteem' syndrome.)
This hampers innovation - the thought-controlled Foxbat is no idle dream - and soon cars will not only be self-driven (you'll be racing 'real' bots on the track so as to endanger only your life and not anybody else's with your shenanigans) you'll be able to 'think' yourself through the course.
The loss of time between neuronal impulse and muscle response activating reality in no way compares to a bunch of 1s and 0s doing the same electronically.
Automatic can be faster.
To match the latest automatic transmission a human will have to have split-second responses, and never, ever, miss a shift.
Never mind the score of possible types of manual tranny to mess-up the manual users.

Having said that . . . I'm old skool. I drive manual.
I'm not here to train for anything . . . I'm just here to enjoy a driving game. :)

Have you tried ASM - it's there for DS3 players.

As for me - I said, the last time I was in here, that I was .070 off Gold.
Well, no one was going to cheat me out of my free Jag. Went back, and hammered at it (with my usual settings TCS1, ABS1 - and yes, I play manual with a G27) An hour later I had it.

I'm thinking it was an hour well-wasted; after all it is a 20M car.

Apart from that I don't see a point in having my name up in lights on a vanishing Leaderboard.
So I'm done with this event.

A tip for those still trying: the trick is to pass the 2D and Ford as quickly as possible. That gives you time to overtake the Ferrari well in advance to set yourself up for the final run at the finish line.
One has to calculate where the cars will be even as you accelerate towards them - sometimes it seems you are going to be in their path and ease off on the accelerator, which tends to puts you into trouble. Confidence and patience is key - both important in driving, anyway.

Good Luck guys - may you snag that free Jag.

After 150 km I still wasn't able to pass the Ford in the exit of the hairpin but I somehow managed to pass the damned Ferrari from inside in the entry of the last turn. Time was about 52.89.

I think if you can get him on the inside is how you do it. I finally caught up to him right before and passed on the inside and ended up getting gold.

New user here. Been lurking this past week and relatively new to driving games -- only got into them early this year.

That said, this event was a bitch and a half. Just got gold with 52.700 on the dot.

The trick to barely beat the time seems to be in passing the second car before the crest of the hill and getting right behind the third car as it takes the turn. This allows you to just clip in front of the Ferrari at the last turn, giving you enough momentum to nab gold.

I have no idea how the top guys are doing 49s. I think this forum refers to them as "aliens". That's exactly what they are. Lol.

So far, like a lot of you guys here, my times have consistently been about .5 away from the gold. Probably ten laps between gold and 53.2. About the time I got the 53.001 I decided some kind of cosmic joke was being played on me - best to pick this challenge up again tomorrow, I guess.

Finally, after I don't know how many 53.1xx efforts, I finally got a 52.958.
Kept either going for the natural inside line on the Ferrari (WRONG ANSWER!), or tying to be too clean around the outside. Finally had another decent lead up, and just pinned it hard around the outside, tail out and hoped for the best.

Saving that replay...
