Newbies to GT1-4 having problems?

Short version:
LOL, I'm apparantly a legend here. :embarrassed:

You wouldn't think so from my post count. Don't look at that, look at my join date. :D

Long version:
There was somewhat of a rivalry between GTP and another site "back in the day". I was a member at www.gran-turismo.com before Kenji got a prescription for Accutane and went APE*** and closed the site down. I don't remember exactly when I joined but it was some time after GT2 was released, but before GT3.

I was slowman there as well. Looking through the Internet Wayback Machine I see some truly legendary names on that forum. Kenji, Apex Killer, Random, samoht, NoQuarter, skiddo, novicius, schnell, RogsR34UK, Mustang-man, animalica, GuyNamedJohn, Pupik, Jason, Taimar2 (one of the most intelligent people I've ever e-met), PunkRock... the list goes on.

Some of you might know some of these names. Some people came here after the site split, some people went and made their own forum at www.gtxf.net. That isn't so much a GT forum as it is a drinking forum. I wouldn't suggest people that are n00bies here go join there. They are the old guard of GT and they like to put the n00bies in their place. :D
This site ( www.gtplanet.net ) has the best (most active and useful) GT forums on the net.

Read FAQs, search old threads, and also look at the Game Guides.
https://www.gtplanet.net/guides/index.php/Game_Guides

For an old guy like me, www.gtxf.net makes a good window into the culture of the modern aging young person. Maybe.

There is floating around a tar file of a little bit of granturismo.com forum contents. I know; I made the tar file.

Without a doubt in my mind, GTP is the best GT site on the net.

Might you possibly know where that tar file could be procured? :)

Exactly. For me personally, I click on the GT4 forum and see "OMG, action in the GT4 forum!". Even though it is basic question and answering, it's nice to see someone make a new post or thread.

superspeed, so I haven't figured out which STi you have yet... Let us know which one it is.

Mine looks a little like the blue one.
EDIT: Or the second white one.

Hmm... there's quite a difference between those two.

Just go to your garage. What is the year of that Impreza?

Sorry about going off-topic, its what happens when you get bunch of vets in the same thread. :D

The year is: '02

Yes, too many vets.

So, you have number 3, the bug eye? Best Scooby in my opinion. The ones before were too unrefined and rugged and the ones after were just too soft and had a distinct lack of bite...

No, it's the 4th one.
I must've got the years mixed up.:indiff:

superspeed, they might have gone off-topic, but you shouldn't double post.

Two wrongs don't make a right as they say. ;)

Uh... you guys are starting to go off topic...:indiff:

Ha! Check out the new guy telling us!:dopey: Man I just busted up laughing! J

Anways, how's things going? Any progress yet young grasshoppa?

Yea, I wanna know too. I spent hours reading the old archived GTF posts before it got fully closed down. 👎

Meh.
Still pratcing dirt tracks.

Slow in, fast out still applies on dirt.

If this makes sense... getting sideways should not be completely intentional but should instead be simply a consequence of driving fast and finding the best racing line on a loose surface.

This applies even more on the snow/ice tracks.

I realized that just a minute ago.
Now at 15.1% complete.

Congrats superspeed, You are on the way now. My advice is being that you just did the easy Cathedral Rock Rally II, now do the normal if you can. Because the track is fresh in your mind. :)

I don't need any more help right now, but if I ever do I'll make a post telling you guys I need help.

If this is a double post, than I'm sorry, but this whole post wouldn't look right as an edit.

Incorrect. It would've got your message across the same way if you put them in the same post. Hopefully a mod can merge your posts. :)

But as for your car troubles, it seems like you've gotten out of them so good for you. 👍

P.S. The '04 STi Spec-C is so much better than the normal '02 STi, just info to help you out.

Going off-topic, but in a way, it's kind of on-topic. It's just not exactly about GT4 per-se.

Anyways, I'm trying to figure out photobucket so I can upload images onto GTP, and make them larger than just a thumbnail. This is what happens when I upload an image from GT4 to my USB...I can get the picture from my USB, but not a BIG picture. I want larger pictures (like people often post), and I CAN'T FIGURE OUT how to get them. It's frustrating. I mean, I've registered onto photobucket.com, and have figured out how to get images onto photobucket, and have figured out how to modify & edit them, but what do you do next? How do you upload them from photobucket to GTP?

"Use the search" some will say. I did. And got a slew of threads unrelated to my question. This is what I'm talking about; the search & FAQs aren't always an easy answer. I've entered "photobucket" "photobucket tutorial", "photobucket lessons" :dunce: And I feel stupid because I feel the answer is probably very simple.

Anyways, all I need is to figure out how to upload pictures from photobucket to GTP. That's all.

Have a look in the [thread=92023]Track maps[/thread] thread, it shows the picture and the URL in text form. I assume Photobucket works on the same principles.

Edit: In Pbucket once youve uploaded a pic select the option
Share more>>
Go to the tab called Get Link code
Scroll down to the option Image for bulboards & forums
copy the full size option e.g. (without the * & space of course) [* IMG]http://i663.photobucket.com/albums/uu360/userid/carbackground.jpg[/IMG]
and paste it in to a post like this

Awesome, thanks! LIke I said, it doesn't seem like it should be super-hard to figure out, but I've been fooling with photobucket for awhile now.

Cool. The image above is about twice as big as I could get before, which is fine. :)

Do me a favour and try another search in GTP for upload picture etc.... I just created a thread. I hope you can find it.

Apologies for going totally OFFTOPIC.

Sorry, I have a tendency to unintentionally disguise my occasional sarcastic or cynical comment.

It happens to me in real life too. People have a tendency to not know when I'm being sarcastic. How it happens on the internet, I don't know... but it does.

Have you looked in the post of Mission 34? It's full of them.

slowman was being sarcastic I think. He's been around for a long time, chances are he's finished Mission 34 by now. :sly: :scared:

To answer your question in the other thread (the one that got closed) the Benz Patent WAgon was one of the first gasoline-powered motorcars ever. It appears in GT4 simply because Kazunori & friends wanted to make a videogame that had this distinction. They put it in the game, basically, because they could.

That being said, such cars aren't totally useless. Somebody actually drove the '86 around Nurburgring, which took two entire days (earth days, not game days).

Parnelli is referring to this thread, which is a very worthwhile read, even if it is long. His "two days" comment is a bit misleading, though, because although James, the one who started it all, did need a whole weekend to finish the lap, there ended up being quite an amazing battle between a couple people who whittled their lap time in the Patent Wagen down to under three hours with a full Arcade Mode tune-up, and under six hours stock in GT Mode. And finally, near the end of the thread, Car-less, MadMax86, and I had some fun trying to beat each others' times in the very steep downhill first sector of Citta di Aria reverse. In short, they are far from useless if you know how to have fun with them.
