Off-topic: Do any of you have roller coaster tycoon 3 platinum, or just the regular rct3?
Just wondering.

I'm guessing it means do any of us on the forum play Rollercoaster tycoon. Completely off topic but hey?

My nephew used to play that game (roller coaster tycoon) alot. This girl I used to go with a few years ago used to have Mall Tycoon, which I found surprisingly addicting.

Hey, Im quite new to GT4 since I broke my first copy and after it broke my memory card wiped the data. :grumpy:
Anyhoo, try and get all the licenses. International A i difficult to get but try and get it.
Also then enter the German Touring Car Championship on B-Spec. to get a lot of money, this will help you to get more cars and thus win more races. :) #

Hope this helped.

You don't need a lot of money to get far in this game.
Check out Mr. Slow's "Scrooge" Threads. Link to the last.
I have also gotten to approx 70% of the game with only buying an MX5 and a Truck. All other cars used were won.

You will also get more satisfaction, If you race yourself and not use B-spec bobless

Isn't it so bizarre how till this day, there's still a healthy number of folks still showing up here trying to teach us how to cheat with Bob? I'll never get it.

And to top it all off, they do not give all the information they need to to help out some-one else who is new.

Classic example is
try and get all the licenses. International A i difficult to get but try and get it.

umm.... don't you first , need a car that is eligable for the DTM, therefore creating so much money you can blow away the competition.

I know, I listened to them. Not from GTP but from Gamefaqs. They meant well. O boy, my Bspec numbers are 9200+. But I missed out on a lot of stuff. Trying to catch up now with the GTP races and 200pointers. Although the 24hr ones are probably out of range what with the kids wanting to get in their own game time. And my wife doesn't see the logic in keeping the machine on when you're not racing.

I'm not saying people should never use B-spec. I certainly have given Bob a few tasks here and there. I'm simply saying it shouldn't be something people rely on race after race. Or if they DO rely on Bob all the time, DON'T come here complaining how "boring" or "easy" GT4 is.

Personally, I wish Bob could keep up with me for endurance racing. In real-life endurance races, drivers switch off. One driver will do a few hours, then another driver takes over. 💡 I would love to simulate this for GT4. Problem is, Bob (even when he's got alot of experience) simply can't keep up with me. He ALWAYS blows my lead by a HUGE margin. :dunce:

Personally, I'm in both camps in regard to B-spec Bob.

Like you say, having B-spec Bob win a race doesn't give you the kind of satisfaction that winning the race yourself (nor does it give you any A-spec points, which we all strive for). Winning a race like the Crossfires at the Superspeedway for 182 A-spec points is what makes us keep coming back to the game. Its almost as good as winning a race in a real car would be IMHO. But as Parnelli Bone says:

B-spec Bob does have his uses. I think it was a nice additon from GT3. Especially for the less hard-core racers. And especially for the Endurance races. With a controller, your hands/fingers gets tired, and Bob can give you a break. Sure he'll lose your lead (so you'll have to watch him and step back in) but this is like real life where one driver is stronger/faster than the other. When I first started the game, I used to let him drive a lot, but now on my 200 point quest, he's almost retired except for mileage on the Test Track (and he's bummed out). My personal favorite for winning money was to take my Pescarolo to the El Capitan Endurance Race and win the Minolta Toyota. I would drive half the race, and B-spec Bob would drive the other half.

I even devised ways to have some fun with B-spec Bob.

I would take a race car to the 9 hours at Tsukuba and turn Bob loose. I would turn off the "pass" mode and watch the race. What would happen is that the race car would not pass anyone, but would stay on the back bumper of the car in front of it. And then on the last turn before the start/finish line, the race car would generally pass the car in front because the lead car would go wide and somewhat off the racing line. The race car would then catch up to the next car in front and get glued to his bumper. My favorite car for this was the Nissan R390 GT1 Race Car. This works at other tracks as well, but none had such a reliable spot where my car would pass even though the "pass" mode was turned off. Trying this at Opera Paris in the 1000 miles! also worked in a Shelby Cobra/AC Cars 427. Sometimes you would get passed yourself while you were stuck to the bumper of the car in front. And then sometimes Bob would pass both cars if they interfered with each others racing line.

I guess this is somewhat off topic, and I don't know if it would be of much help to "Newbies". Oh well...

Respectfully,

^^ Yup. You get what I'm saying. :) Wish Bob could keep up...not so much for cheating purposes, but to keep a strong position during an enduro. The way it is now: It's like Parnelli Bones starts the race, hands it over to a mediocre go-kart driver Bobby Nahal, then Parnelli starts freaking out because Bobby can't keep a lead. After a mad  argument between pit boss & driver (me) we finally decide to pull Bobby back in for another driver change, but prematurely. Parnelli drives like MAD to try and regain the lost position(s), hoping tires & fuel will last and another extra pit stop isn't needed towards the end of the race. :(

You very rarely see this in real-life, of course! Drivers are usually on-par with one another, otherwise they wouldn't be on the same team!

Except with the BBC Top Gear, when they ran the Silverstone 24hr on their home made diesel fuel. The Stig (I Think) was about 15 Seconds a lap faster than Captain Slow.

But yeah, normally this would not happen.

But that's why they pay you the big bucks!

Like Steve McQueen in the movie LeMans.

Of course, even I would get annoyed at Bob at New York where even in a good race car he would stuff himself into the wall at the 90 degree right turn.

That was a GREAT movie! Haven't seen it in ages, tho. I think I watched it back when I was just learning to drive a real-life car.

Havne't watched Top Gear yet, unfortunately.

Stoopid question: does Captain Slow=daan here at GTP? I think daan is the mod that calls himself Captain Slow...

Captain Slow is the nickname the other presenters gave to James May.

In this context, it means James May.

And I think we just call daan "daan" here...

The Tube has some footage from LeMans. Also type in bullit chase scene or something like that. About 7-9 mins long. Back before Computers did all the driving.

Also type in:
Jeremy's Extreme Ford Fiesta road test - Top Gear - BBC Autos
You'll get a kick out of mall and other stuff.

One more: BEST MOVIE CAR CHASES Tribute: Punch It, Baby!
One last one: Pikes Peak Hill Climb Peugeot 405 T16

The last best one: Ehra Lessien with James May/Top Gear. Must See!!!!!!! Very Cool. We should all be this lucky.
