IMO - want engine swaps? Go play Forza.
In theory it would be fun in GT, but cars would lose their identity, and add another layer of complication if it is to be implemented properly

As I see it, there's 7 million copies to be replicated......PD has already gone gold and they have already delivered the master for replication. That speaks Volumes for the release date being closer than farther away. ;) Who knows, maybe an announcement about GT5 at the GT Awards Ceremony tonight at SEMA. I'll take a wait and see attitude until after the awards show tonight.

Ah, the good old "if it's not in GT it doesn't ever need to be".

Throwing a great big turbo to triple the horsepower (or more) also changes a car's "identity".

If it's to be implemented properly, the car frame considerations have to be accounted for, engine size, weight and drivetrain location etc etc, it's a lot more complicated than you think. I'm pretty sure GT5's physics engine takes into account these factors with respect to centre of gravity
Then how do you even the field for racing and what not? It's already hard enough with cars with their own engines.

Whats to stop every person finding the lightest car and stuffing the most powerful, yet lightest and smallest engine into it?

See it just muddles the water too much.

Like I said go play Forza and enjoy that aspect

It absolutely muddles the waters. And it's absolutely complicated to implement to the level of detail PD is known for. Both of those, I won't deny.

Point? Cars aren't equal anyways, and Prologue already showed us there are certain cars that will always excel at certain modification levels (if the PP system is again in the game representative of our tuning, anyways).

Nothing's there to stop people from finding that very "golden engine" you're talking about. And if people are primarily concerned with only the fastest possible car, won't they just be taking the X1 everywhere? If GT's meant as some kind of ode to car culture, and the passion of gearheads, engine swaps are a big part of that.

Awaiting further fanboy-driven "go play Forza" comments.

Go play 4za!

Where the above isn't done properly and see the effects there :)

Yeah there are a lot of things you can do in the real world, but there you don't need to figure it all out and code it. I know that if Fallout 3 was real, you would be raping every female you came across, but you can't :(

Why not take the best of what works in other games and incorporate it into the best game of all time? It's about getting better. I think realistic(common) swaps should be incorporated into the game. I don't see how this would ruin it for the purists? We all don't just leave the cars stock, so what's the difference with adding a turbo and taking a Miata to 500hp vs swapping in an LS1?

Coming from someone who obsesses over the booth girls at each of GT's public showings...

I see you don't really have any valid counter-points. I'm not surprised, you haven't changed.

...

Like people mention, there's a fair amount of really overblown, unrealistic swaps going on in FM3. I agree. But it'd be fairly easy for me to avoid those people if GT incorporated a similar system. And if leaderboards were handled differently (say, any engine swap automatically invalidates a car), then it could remain as a more fun, exploring option for people. Leave them for online racing, and people can still have fun. My tastes with hybrids in the past GT's was mostly recreating real cars not available in game. I could do that, and still race with friends. Just like a livery editor, there's bound to be people who do things you don't agree with, but a freedom for creativity brings a hell of a lot of positives too.

Uncool? What makes you say that?
I just don't like the idea in a game like GT, alright? Goes more along with street racing games in my opinion. Tuning the engine that's already in the car is more than enough in a racing sim.

I bet your the guy in the group of friends who is like, "Megan Fox? OMG WOULD NOT HIT".:)
Speaking of which?

Those damn clios in GT5p, imagine it with a v10 ? Or an RX7 with no rotary engine? It's not right and I'm 100 sure it would look like this. All online races with class A cars with hevy engines ( just one hope that they would be undrivable like they should be in real life)

So, the game makers can only include things you like? And if you don't, you don't want anyone to enjoy features that you wouldn't? :scared:

It's not there for some reason, not because we don't like it to be there.

What!? When did I say that? I said that I(!) would think it's uncool. Am I not allowed to share my honest opinion? If it was featured I'd be glad for the guys like you who likes the idea, but I(!) wouldn't use it myself.

This place becomes a mess sometimes... :indiff:

I cannot think of 1 respectable racing series that allows an 'anything goes' engine swap within its rules. Updating/backdating or using homologated bits is the norm - sticking a 350 in a Miata isn't.

(Sorry, neither drifting or TT are respectable forms of motorsport)

SCCA? Pikes Peak Hill Climb? There are series that allow engine swaps. :dunce:

Guess this isn't a "real" racecar.

If it didn't come stock with the car, it's a swap. If I put an Integra motor in my Civic, it's a swap.

V8 in a Caterham replica?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that car indeed has a Suzuiki engine in it...

And it's nothing close to a real SX4, just a space frame and some fiberglas on it.

Same with this Caterham it just looks like the old car

Couldn't care less about engine swaps. In fact I think it would be uncool if was featured.

So something that is common in the world of racing you dont want in a game that claims to be the real driving simulator, when its closest competitors have been doing it for years? Ok.

If you dont want to mess with engine swaps, thats one thing, but to say you actually would have an issue with it if it were in the game tells me you're probably a GT fanboy and making excuses for one of the games shortcomings.

And You may call someone a fanboy just because he shares his opinion?

Is there a good reason in existence for not wanting such an important feature in the world of racing in a racing simulator? No. So what is the only other logical answer? He's making excuses for the game.
