The Texans released Trindon Holliday (kickoff returner). Too bad he wasn't as effective in the regular season as he had been in the preseason.
It's still very early, but here are your standings heading into this weekend:
! = undefeated so far
--- AFC ---
AFC EAST: New England (3-2), NYJ, MIA, and BUF (2-3 each)
AFC NORTH: Baltimore (4-1), CIN (3-2), PIT (2-2), CLE (0-5)
AFC SOUTH: Houston! (5-0), IND (2-2), JAX and TEN (1-4 each)
AFC WEST: San Diego (3-2), DEN (2-3), OAK (1-3), KC (1-4)
--- NFC ---
NFC EAST: Philadelphia and New York Giants (3-2 each), DAL (2-2), WAS (2-3)
NFC NORTH: Minnesota and Chicago (4-1 each), GB (2-3), DET (1-3)
NFC SOUTH: Atlanta! (5-0), TB (1-3), CAR and NO (1-4 each)
NFC WEST: Arizona and San Francisco (4-1 each), STL and SEA (3-2 each)
It is still very early, so there's plenty of time for your team to make some noise and emerge.
Speaking as a Southern boy, I'm pretty happy both the unbeaten teams are Southern- AFC South's Houston and NFC South's Atlanta. We don't play the Dirty Birds this season. I do wonder who would win if Houston and Atlanta were to play this season. I always wondered if both were unbeaten, who'd beat who. Matt Ryan (or Matty Ice) is a solid QB. The Texans aren't slouches on either offense or defense. So the one thing I'd fear is the Falcons' passing attack. I saw that game-winning drive when Atlanta hosted Carolina. You go from the 1-yard line to come back and win it with a clutch 40-yard field goal with only so little time left in the game.
Who knows? If both HOU and ATL finished unbeaten (neither will be unbeaten), that might be your Super Bowl in New Orleans. Also, the respective cities of Houston and Atlanta are usually seen as two of the most miserable sports cities in America. So this would be a dream for those who love HOU and ATL sports.
Babbling over. Go have a nice day.
