You think it's curtains for Marvin Lewis? They had the team, but they looked terrible against Houston. Secondary fell apart.
No way. I thought Cincy (or maybe the Jags) was the worst team coming into the season. The fact that they made the playoffs is enough to call this season a success. They are a young team and they're going to keep getting better.
The key for the 49ers is to control possesion, run the ball, really long drives, ending with touchdowns. This keeps Drew Brees and the Saints off the field for longer. So, time of possesion will be the key.
Well that's the grandpa's-agreeable-analysis. I think you're wrong though. While the 49ers will win by your logic, I think it's more important to focus on getting to the Saints on their passing formations. They won't be able to run to set up play action against the 49ers. That just won't work. Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles will go exactly nowhere and then the Saints will be in passing situations at 3rd and long if they try that. No team wants to be like that, even if it's the best passing team in the NFL.
I think that the three Smiths will be the most important figures in this game. Justin and Aldon Smith on defense will need to get to Drew Brees and put him into the turf. The Saints have been an inferior passing team outdoors this season and the winds at Candlestick Park will only make it more difficult. The third Smith is obviously Alex and he will need to be effective. Delanie Walker is most likely out with his broken jaw, but Vernon Davis is and always has been one of the best tight ends in the NFL. He needs to be a monster and eat up the Saints' LBs and secondary.
Bowman and Willis will have to shut-down Graham's TE effectiveness and I think they'll be able to. One matchup that worries me is the deep ball and Marques Colston will be tough to stop. I hope the Carlos Rogers can continue his success this season.
Last time these two teams played? September 2010 in San Francisco. The Reigning Superbowl Champion Saints won that game by a mere field goal 25-22. This is not 2010's San Francisco 49ers.
49ers are hugely underrated and I think they are the best equipped team to take on the Saints and the Packers in the NFC. It's going to be a great game.
Matchups:
Offense - Saints.
Defense - 49ers.
Special Teams - 49ers.
These new overtime rules are so stupid. Why don't they just add on another quarter and whoever has the most points after that wins?
I wish it was like the NCAA's rules. Everyone get's a chance to touch the ball once. In the 1st and 2nd OT's you can score a TD or kick a field goal. 3rd OT and on, you have to go for a TD and you have to go for the 2 point conversion.
