NFS Carbon thingy

Hmm... the demo isn't too good. Autosculpt is kind of disspointing. The races aren't all that hard... at all... and the 'crew' thing is retarded. I dunno... Also, the muscle seem easiest to drive, and drift is insanely hard, but insanely fun once you get it right. My rating, based on the 360 demo? 6.5, compared to MW's 8.6, U2's 7.0, and Underground's 8.5

How the 🤬 ...?

So far I've been reading the contrary, but is the 360 version of this game ten times better than the PC version or something? I just finished playing through the PC demo a couple of times, and have come to realize that the Need for Speed series is all but dead. EA simply can't make a great one anymore.

The racing physics just don't make any sense and aren't fun at all, the sense of speed is so poor that driving the Lamborghini feels like driving a garbage truck, the autosculpting is rather pointless because only a handful of tweaks look tolerable, the physics in the drifting mode have been watered down so much that only those who take the short bus to school should worry about winning the challenges, and the sense of speed is so appallingly slow that the games namesake must be referring to creating a "need for speed," rather than satisfying it.

...did I mention that the game's sense of speed is embarrasingly lethargic?

I mean, for crying out loud, I've been having more fun with "Street Racing Syndicate 2" (more commonly known as that PS2 Fast and the Furious game) than I did in this crappy demo that crashed to the desktop as often as it worked. :irked:

I love how IGN said that making the game take place entirely within the city was a good move; that the presentation warranted an 8 despite being filled with even more crappy cut scenes than ever before; and that adding muscle-cars was a new feature, despite being featured in Underground 2, Hot Pursuit 2 and High Stakes. Wolfe is right: This series has become even more useless than Madden. It probably barely deserves a 7.

I'm not sure about High Stakes, but IIRC, Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground 2 didn't have muscle cars.

"More useless than Madden"? Sorry, I don't agree. However, right now it definitely ranks at the bottom of the pile. Especially when I took a look on the Marketplace this afternoon, and they were offering cheats and cars that should've came with the game (Camaro Concept, Koenigsegg, etc) for money. 👎

A month or two ago I was ready to buy Carbon on Day 1. Now, I'll just wait until it's $20.

  • Hot Pursuit II: I may not be speaking for every version, but the Playstation version had an HSV version of the Holden Monaro, the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R and the Ford Falcon TS-50 (plus the arguable Corvette Z06 and Viper GTS).
  • Underground II: Pontiac GTO and Ford Mustang GT.
  • High Stakes: Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, Chevrolet Camaro Z28, Chevrolet Corvette.
  • High Stakes Australian version: HSV SV99, Ford Falcon XR8 and Holden MHRT.

Honestly, I don't consider those muscle cars. When I think of muscle cars, I think of this:

If you want to include the PC versions of High Stakes and Hot Pursuit 2, then there are plenty of musclecars, among a billion other user-created cars. :sly:

Really, Carbon would be fun if the sense of speed were fixed (actually somewhat likely, given the history of Need for Speed games and slow-looking demos  ), and if the physics made more sense...something like Hot Pursuit 2.

My quick review of the full version of NFS:Carbon.
Well I played this yesterday for about 6 hours. 5 hours single player and sorta 1 hour online (had a hard time finding a room and kept getting disconnected).
I will just keep my quick review short and sweet. The handling, the graphics, the sounds, and the drifting are EXACTLY like the demo. If you didnt enjoy the demo you probably wont enjoy this game.
The single player has actually been decent and fun for the most part. I am around 38% finished with the single player. Having the crew members is actually better than I expected and they can come in handy at times. Yet they can also get in your way or cause you to crash because they pretty much do whatever they want. The nice part is you dont have to drive from race to race. You just pick the next one and you are warped there like TDU.

Yesterday the online was really hit and miss. I dont know if it was because it was the first day or if its the EA servers but I was only able to get into a few rooms. The pursuit knock out was quite fun.

After you upgrade the cars they do get better. I picked the Camaro so I could go the muscle car route. Currently my car is heat 4. If you get busted in any of your pursuits you will loose all the stats from that pursuit. I had a 15 minute battle with the cops in free roam. Over $200,000 in damage, totaled over 30 cop cars then I got busted. Lost all the stats and now I am stuck with heat 4 on that car.
Like I said the handling, graphics, sound, and drifting are just like the demo.

So the cop system in Carbon is the exact same from Most Wanted?

What about the framerate? Did the game become a slideshow when you were drifting and such?
From what I remember of Most wanted this is kinda the same but different. MW required you to get your wanted level up. In carbon you can simply play through the single player mission by mission just like NFSU2. Just click and it warps you right there. But if you want to mess with cops in the free roam you can but its not necessary at all. I only messed with the cops to try and get the couple achievements.
The drifting is just like the demo. It does get a little better as you upgrade your cars but its still no where near as enjoyable as NFSU and NFSU2. I chose the muscle cars but its easier to drift with the exotics and impors.
The graphics are a huge disappointment compared to any other 360 title that is out. They look just like the demo.
Rent it. What you see on the demo is what you get in the full version. I bought the game and will be returning it next wednesday when I pick up GOW and COD3. The online has major issues. I will just try to get as far as I can through the game offline and online by next week.

Yeah the slow down during drifting was a turn off.

I played the demo over and over to force myself to like it. But when i decided I may cave I saw the downloadable content and my jaw dropped that EA is doing this. I'll check it out late next Year when "Need For Speed Street Cliche" comes out

Well this game is growing on me. I am at 63% and now have around 8 hours total into NFSC. I am having a lot of fun with this one. The online is still really screwed up but hopefully this weekend it will be better.
I currently have over $300,000 and 3 cars in my garage. The 67 Camaro, the new Mustang, and a sick car I won from one of the rivals. I wont list the car to avoid the spoiler. ;)
From what I can tell I have only had about 5 drift events total in the entire game. Thats all unless more open up later.
I still dont know how many cars you need in your garage of a certain car to get the achievement for "all muscle cars" or "all tuners" or "all exotics".
After I beat the single player I will try for some of the pursuit achievements.

All the downloadable content is just stuf fyou unlock during play, if you download the unlock off live all you doing is paying to have thoes unlockables from the start of the game rather than work through the game and unlock them for free.

I guess you need to have 7 cars in your garage to get achievements for individual ones for filling your garage. Example: Muscle Head

Bought the game, Collector's Edition, as part of my buy-only-360-games plan.

It's not bad, and is a bit of an...escape...from TDU's Island loneliness (let's face it; the population of gamers is only around the South End of the Island).

I must admit, one cool thing about Carbon is that EA seems to have copied a friend of mine's internet forum role-play that I was a part of. Seriously. :sly:

The idea we came up with was that there was this fictional city in which four street-racing factions existed -- the tuners (Japanese cars), the outlaws (american cars), the nobility (European cars), and Civic Nation (ricers). Races took place on the city streets, on the Tokyo-style highway loops, on the roads of the surrounding countryside, and on the three racetracks in the area.

I was the leader of the Nobility, and it seems EA even copied that for their "Exotics" crew, although they turned me into some stupid-looking dick.
Between that and the fact that a Cayman-driving black-list member was named after me, I feel like EA is watching me. :nervous:

I still say this game is just a rental. You could almost wipe out this entire game in a rental including the online achievements.
I have quite a bit of time into this game now. I beat the single player several days ago and now I have played almost 75 games online. Probably at least 1/4 of those online games had lag or disconnect issues. I will have over 100 games after tonight to get the 100 games online achievement. I am also at level 12 almost 13 online. Overall I am having fun with this but I will be selling it on wednesday. I still say its just a good rental. I am also enjoying this a lot more than Most wanted.

To add to the above post I now have played over 130 games online. One frustrating thing happened last night. I was at 98 games waiting for my 100 games achievement. I played 15 more games and it said I was only at 100 games. Then about another 15 more games I finally got it but it said I only play 101 games. WTF :ouch: Oh well at least I got it. Tonight will be the last night then I sell this tomorrow for GOW and COD3. :)

You mean you already have the 1000GS for this game ? Ooh COD3 is tough on the achievements, that'll take you a while and multiple level achievements for GoW, that's gonna be a pain also. :nervous:

No heck no I am a long way from 1000GS in NFSC. I only have 465/1000 and I have been playing since it came out. They did a great job with the achievements for this game. They are quite challenging and are spread everywhere from single player to online.
I just dont really want the game any more since GOW and COD3 are coming out tomorrow. Also the online in NFSC just lags and disconnects way too much for me to deal with. I recommend it as a rental. It is a lot more fun that Most Wanted in my opinion. I didnt like Most wanted but I enjoyed Carbon.
