NFS Hot Pursuit 3

No idea. I don't even know when the US PSN store updates, which is why I went the Live route because they update first thing in the morning.

Have to get my buddy to download the demo here today; I know he's a NFS fan at heart.

I am very impressed by the physics. Maybe it's me, but they definitely feel like they have some weight to them & you can't just fling the cars in any direction at will. I think I will be very happy with this one.

The 370 is a bitch to get around corners even when using the e-brake. It's funny (and sad) how a marketed arcade racer has more feel than Shift does. The Vic is easy to control, but feels heavy when you try and navigate different directions.

I want this game. Now. :D

Thanks guys, sounds like it could be the NFS we've all been waiting for!.👍 I just wish they'd hurry up and release the damn demo for PS3!.

When is the eu demo up?

Probably about 4-5PM (GMT) tomorrow when the store is usually updated, hopefully the US one will have it before then.

Anyone who plans on downloading the PS3 demo post up your PSN. It says there is a "need for speed autoblog" mode that tracks your performance against your friends...which subsequently unlocks a new event in the demo called Roadsters Reborn.

My PSN is MF-DIF.

Does the demo play well with a wheel, or is it more Burnout-y in that a gamepad gives you the best experience?

I can only imagine a wheel would be better, the physics aren't comparable to any Burnout game though, even in jest. As far as whether or not the demo supports it, I have no idea. Has the US PSN store updated yet?

If so, I can answer.

So disappointing. As an avid fan of NFS II through NFS Hot Pursuit 2, this game is the exact opposite of what I would've expected. Criterion said they were heavily influenced by the original, but this just feels like Split/Second to me. From a racing game developer with a strong track record, it's all a bit underwhelming.

I really had high hopes for this game. The car list is only supercars - just what an NFS game should be. The return of cops was promising (even though the whole EMP thing, roadblocks and spike strips literally on demand felt very Call of Duty-ish). I'm normally not a fan of open worlds, but this felt very reminiscent of the classic NFS games, with roads winding through exotic forests, beaches, etc. Not to mention it is absolutely huge, 4x the size of Paradise City's map. So I thought this would be the new king of arcade racing games. Unfortunately, as I've found out, that title still belongs to NFS: HP2.

So everything I've mentioned still reigns true, but it's all crippled by a terrible physics engine. I know you said you are fan McLaren, but I couldn't (respectfully) disagree more haha. The best analogy I have for what driving in this game feels like is steering a boat through a vat of butter. There is no grip, just more and more understeer than I've ever experienced before. The drifting works for the most part, but when you aren't drifting, it's all a chore. Compare this to NFS III (yes, I'm, going back two generations, I know) or what I'd consider the current benchmark for arcade physics, PGR 4. In a game where precision is the key to avoiding cops, spike strips, roadblocks and the like, I don't see how anyone could benefit from this. I mean sure, you could argue the cars have a sense of weight to them as well, but weight doesn't account for a complete lack of grip. I mean, arcade racers are supposed to be unrealistic, I'm not asking for GT here haha. That said, why is it that a 370Z handles worse than a Crown Vic? Aaaahhh  sorry for the rant, but this is not my Need for Speed anymore.

Then there's the music. Whereas the old games had lots of electronic/synth influences, now we have what can only be described as the score to Transformers 2...I miss the 90s :(

Definitely a first-day purchase even more so now. EA should permanently contract Criterion to take the helm on all future NFS games, because as usual, the Burnout boys do not disappoint.

Yeah I'd love to see them do Shift 2 because of the experience and knowledge in that genre...... What EA has going for them is perfect right now. Different "types" of games done by different developers with the experience and 2 years to do them in.

Love your avatar Glassjaw :)

Demo is up on the PS Store. If you can't find it on the Newest Demos menu, you can search for "Need For Speed" and it'll be in there.

This feels nothing like Split/Second. In fact, this is very close to the feeling of HP2. :odd:

Vehicle list updated with demo vehicles and I added a traffic car section as cars seen there may or may not be drivable.

EDIT: According to the NFS News section of the demo, the Racer's portion of the demo includes the Porsche Boxster Spyder, Nissan 370Z and BMW Z4 sDrive

HP2's driving model was grippier. I mean, it wasn't endless grip, drifting was involved, but there was a lot less understeer. When I play the demo, I literally bounce off the walls because my car cannot physically change direction fast enough, no matter how quickly I turn the wheel (especially the 370Z). They don't seem to keep up with the road ahead when things get twisty, which is kind of a dealbreaker for me...but to each his own.

What worries me is that this lack of sharpness and quickness of steering has become a growing trend in arcade racers. Blur, Split/Second, and now NFS have all had this problem...hopefully TDU2 will be a breath of fresh air. I guess I'm in the minority here, anyone else noticing this?

I hate the physics, I feel like I'm driving a tank around and not a 370z. The added weight of the cars is overwhelming.

From where I stand, you're all alone on this one.

People complain that arcade physics are too "arcadey" (whatever in good hell that even means is beyond logical comprehension), now that arcade racers are beginning to blur the line just a bit, what happens? More complaining, this time about it not feeling like an arcade game - honestly, people need to make up their mind, or just shut up. That's not directed toward you, but come on...it's nothing but complaining about games these days.

I played the demo and verdict was quick and swift. I was thinking this would be like HP2, its not. Maybe as I get older these games just don't interest me anymore. The "health bar hit them then they speed" up is just comical. I just cant take that type of gameplay serious. I passed on Blur and Split second, this will fall into the "won't even buy at a discount" category. I'm not saying its bad, its just not for me. As an open minded gamer I can easily recommend it those looking for this type of game, its just not the type I want to invest money or time into.

Yes, this is based on the demo. I'm 100% sure the gameplay will be a carbon copy in the full game. I wish they would have just made a new Burnout game with the return of the classic gameplay of Burnout 2 with licensed cars.

glassjaw is not alone. But its not the physics that have me off the boat on this one.

My point exactly.

I disagree, I think it's just all up to whether or not you prefer racing games from fifteen years ago to today's offerings. When I want to play a good arcade racer, I play Daytona, Ridge Racer, Sega Rally, and the "original" NFS games. I had no problem with these, and they came from an era where the line between arcade and sim was very clearly defined. I'm complaining not for the sake of complaining, but because I prefer the past. When I look at my favorite racing games of the this generation so far, Sega Rally Revo is probably in the top 3 simply because it was old school, and I loved that. It's a very rare thing these days.

And yeah, I figured I was alone, I think I'm one of the four people in the world who still play RR... :indiff:

Wait, you can't stand the physics in HP but you like the physics in Sega Rally Revo and Ridge Racer? So...you like the ULTRA arcadey physics like HP1 and HP2. Although, HP3 is a bit like those, but with a little more weight to the vehicles. At least now it feels like your driving a car instead of a matchbox toy.

I agree with a cars feeling a bit heavy but hey, its an arcade game. I'm still having fun crashing down the racers with these heavy police cars lol.

Atleast the graphics aren't bad. I still need to unlock the speeders race! Only thing I feel the same in the physics is the way you drift (tapping the brake), & controlling it mid-drift.

I do not think you understand his point. I do as a fan of those classic arcade racers. Even Burnout Revenge had good driving controls. But like I said, to me its not the physics I dislike. I'm sure one can get used to them.

Glassjaw RR is my favorite arcade racing series :) Every new PS that ever came out had a RR game launch with it and I still have them all :) You are not the only RR fan. I'm old school.

Yeah, for me HP1 and HP2 are where it's at. I guess you're right though...I mean, Ridge Racer is obviously the most unrealistic "driving" game ever made and the cars in Sega Rally Revo have very little, if any weight to them. I figure if you are going for the arcade side of things, why not just try and make the driving experience as fun as possible, without weighing it down with realism? That stuff is reserved for simulators, in my opinion.

SOB waited all day to DL this for PS3 and it doesn't even work with my Fanatec Carrera wheel.

Hope the full version does. Anyone else have luck with other wheels?

Played the demo, it was a blast. The physics feel good, definitely a pad racing game, drifting was rather easy. I really wish the Roadster race had cops in it, but it's nice to know there will be "clean" races as well. Although I will say that the route for the roadster race has a really long shortcut.

On the other side of the law it was fun, I played with the Crown Vic, for the most part taking out racers was easy(hopefully they just had the difficulty turned down for the demo), the hardest part was there was one racer that no matter how many times I hit him from the side he took on no damage.

The only thing I didn't like were the little cut scenes every time you took someone out or crashed, hopefully you can turn these off.

.. just like burnout. I always try to play catchup with the person in front of me for a long time, then realize I have another roadblock setup. :dunce:

What's your best time taking these racers out guys? Mine is 2:11.93.

Demo is pretty good, might get it used but might not because of Black Ops. Only game that matters is GT5!! Lol I got 1.54 on cops with my second try.

Still have to see if the demo works with G27.
