NFS Hot Pursuit 3

1:07 with my Crown Vic! Sure as hell makes me miss my Police Interceptor. Ya'll know what I'll be driving online when I pick this game up haha.

SOB waited all day to DL this for PS3 and it doesn't even work with my Fanatec Carrera wheel.

Hope the full version does. Anyone else have luck with other wheels?

No dice.. I am very upset about this.. Its still enjoyable with a controller but im not sure wether its worth my $$$..

Looks like this demo is my only option now that my PS3 won't read discs after yesterday's session of F1. Damn. I really wish they will release a PSN version of this game as well (as they did with Burnout).

A bit disappointed... knew it'd be arcadey, and that's fine, but for the Boxster and Z4 to feel near-identical... hrm. Playing as the cop is fun, though to get under 1:30 consistently is mostly down to luck, I've found; the perps can seemingly know when you're about to throw down a spike strip, and despite being right on your bumper, will slow and miraculously avoid it. Also, the fact you can only damage them by bumping the rear or rear 3/4 is a bit of a pain.

Don't think I'll buy it for full-price, but if it gets knocked down (and if the online support doesn't pack up and leave when it does), I'll be all over it.

I have to admit, this game is pretty dang addictive and fun. I think they FINALLY have a NFS game that truly represents the fun and excitement of Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to beat friends pursuit times and race times last night. That was very addictive especially if I was only off by a couple seconds. Police car handling is a bit strange but the regular cars handle much better. I think this could possibly be THE best NFS game created in probably 10 years. Criterion did a great job reviving the Hot Pursuit series. :)

Bugger me, I had better get my PSN account issues sorted with my refurb'ed PS3 tomorrow so I can try this demo myself.:dunce:

This feels nothing like Split/Second. In fact, this is very close to the feeling of HP2. :odd:

Indeed it does. The "heaviness" I thought was just a result of me playing too much Burnout Paradise. I really don't think the cars are too heavy, i mean if you're going to go that fast how exactly do you expect to take corners at high speed without feeling momentum pulling you sideways?

On a side note, I have quite a while to play to get used to the physics here... Been playing burnout so much I keep thinking I can take any corner or turn as fast or as late as I want.

My Pursuit time was 1:58 which I'm pretty sure I can improve upon, but then again I was much more interested in racing.

I forgot to mention how I love the return of the commentary when you select a vehicle. I loved that in Hot Pursuit 2 and now after what 10 years its finally back again!

Exactly. That was the first thing I was pleasantly surprised by.

I don't think i've been this excited about a new game for a long time, Criterion have done a fantastic job taking the Need For Speed series back to what it used to be.
The game looks great and i'm really impressed with the physics, though they're as good as Hot Pursuit 2's in my opinion. I don't like the fact that all the roadsters feel pretty much the same or how the normal cars have boost either, but the little touches that have been added like the different levels of siren and lights, headlights, the car commentary(I miss that guy:lol:) and being able to deploy the spike strips yourself more than make up for it. The Autolog is pretty neat too.

All the time i've been playing this demo there's been a massive smile on my face, before HP was annouced i'd lost hope in this kind of Need For Speed, thankfully our pleas did not fall on deaf ears. I cannot wait for the full game.:D

By the way, it looks like you'll be able to use custom soundtracks in the full game, I noticed an option in the audio settings which allows you to select what BGM you want to use.

*Goes to pre-order*

That's good, atleast 1.581gb won't be wasted and about 40mins (my internet is quick)

I have images of EA exec's sitting there fingers crossed saying "oh please say this one will finally be a hit.... oh please!!!" :scared::scared:

I've had a good feeling about this game the minute it was announced, the teaser trailer was epic and screamed NFS roots. The game title shows they are committed to delivering.

Robin.

Yup exactly. The community has been asking for the NFS series to return to the "Roots" for about 10 years and it has finally happened. I was also so excited when I heard the news of this game. I also have a good feeling about this game and it has the potential to bring the NFS series back to life. Especially with Criterion in control. 👍 Now we just have to hope the EA servers wont haev too many problems. This is the first NFS game I have been excited about in a LONG time.

You can use custom soundtrack in the demo, you just need to have set up a playlist on the XMB menu.

I think EA forgot how to make a Need For Speed worthy of the 'Hot Pursuit' title, instead of making a mess and further ruining the Need For Speed name they decided to give someone else the huge task, that way it wouldn't be them who gets all the flak if it was crap.;)

My only real issue with the demo, at least, is that HP2 seemed have better graphics. Especially in the menus. I don't know. It could just be me, but it seems like the graphics should be better for the current gen-system. But from the videos of the final version, it looks like the final game will look a lot better.

Does any of that really matter?

Even if it were true, it wouldn't make the game any less enjoyable.

Even though I had my reservations about this game, I have to say the demo was quite enjoyable! Anybody wanna add me on PSN so I can access the other event too? :sly:

I noticed that immediately too, I'm so happy it's back! For nostalgia's sake I would rather have that guy's voice who did it in all the old games as opposed to the new one, but whatever. I'm just nitpicking now... :dopey:

I disagree, I think it looks beautiful. I mean, it is overloaded with motion blur (like most racing games these days) but I find that it works in this case. The lighting, the paintwork and reflections off the cars are very reminiscent of the older games, as opposed to the orange and blue filters in Most Wanted and Carbon, respectively. The only area of improvement in my opinion are the car models, which close up seem to have a lot of hard edges. But you really only see that in the car select menu.

I have to be honest and admit that this game is starting to grow on me. The cop event I still find pretty boring, but the roadster event almost completely turned me around. After having played it now, I can easily see the old NFS HP in this game. It's bright, it's colorful, the locales are gorgeous and the cars look pristine. I'm still at odds with the handling, especially of the 370Z cop car and roadster. But the Z4 and Boxster Spyder are much more drivable. Drivable, not quite fun, but drivable. There is still a reasonable delay of steering input and actual response with these cars, but it's not nearly as bad as the other two.

So at first I was completely put off by this game, pretty disgusted. But Criterion's reeling me back in now...

The final version of the game will support steering wheels. Got that info off of the official Need for speed forum

I don't know why they didn't put wheel support (demo) in or cockpit view because I am doing burnouts with the Porsche Boxster, I can just about see that his hands are turning the full 900degrees.

Also have people noticed that some traffic cars look like or are licensed, I drove past a Cadillac looking car and Porsche Cayenne, Acutually they are licensed, been driving past Nissans ect.

Ditto, it really does have the same vibe. 👍 Like I said earlier, I didn't have high expectations for this game, but now it looks like a definite buy for me! :dopey:

So, it feels like it uses a modified version of the Burnout Paradise Engine. But it's an engine that's been modified by DICE. And DICE knows racing. They used to develop for Microsoft on the original Xbox and have created games like Midtown Madness 3, and both Rallysport Challenge games.

But, I like how you earn boost here the same way you earn it in BP.

I wasn't aware of DICE's involvement until I saw them mentioned in the opening credits. I thought this was an entirely Criterion run ship, did DICE just do the physics engine?

And RalliSport was badly underrated. Right up there with CMR in my opinion.

EA owns DICE, and I wouldn't be surprised if DICE did the physics engine. They've been working those a lot lately.

And, yeah, Rallisport Challenge 1 & 2 are some of my favorite rally games. Up there with Dirt and Dirt 2. DICE was making a third along with a 4th Midtown Madness when they left and were eventually bought by EA.

But, they've did the multiplayer engine for the new Modern Warfare.
