NFS Hot Pursuit 3

Sorry to report but this game isn't what I thought it was going to be. I picked it up earlier today and have been playing until now. I can't play online yet because EA hasn't bought their servers for this game online yet.
The game looks great and the way they make the sense of speed is tops... but it just feels like nothing new has been bought to this series. It's point a to b and in some races you can only pick one car to use. Which is the oddest thing. And no I'm not taking about the races where a car company ask you to drive their cars but normal races. I'm not happy with it but other might be.

WUT?

Not to mention the absence of splitscreen multiplayer.

Absence? With such an emphasis on online multiplayer these days, you seriously can't find that as a fault....it should be there as not many use the online function but I don't remember it ever supporting this from the get go.

I will play Test Drive Unlimited 2 even without splitscreen, I won't be playing that unless it had splitscreen, I will play it tomorow with my friend for the sake of trying it, but if the game had splitscreen we would have played it regularly in our racing games rotation along Forza 3, GT5 and PGR 4. It's a shame, there is no better feature to go along police chase than splitscreen.

Reasoning makes sense to me. For some reason I don't think splitscreen is a major priority to most developers, and the ones who do consider are amongst the minority it seems.

They probably calculated that splitscreen will have a negative impact on the game revenues, not that it will reduce sales but it would cost more to implement than the additional sales it would generate. I hope they are right, because to me it seems they might underestimate the importance of offline multiplayer in videogames, both in sale and rental numbers.

Just because google doesn't have any info, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Spending $400,000 of tax payer's money isn't something you brag about. (although, I believe Lamborghini donates them), and you really don't want to announce to the criminals that you have a V10 AWD Lambo in your arsenal. But, since I can find any proof, I'll hush about it.

I'll just enjoy this game and GT5 when it comes out.

By the way, here's the official car list:

Why would the police have a Lamborghini, if they chase someone on the highway at 250+ km/h they themselves will be prosecuted for reckless driving and endangering lives, a regular highway cop car is fine. I don't see how they would use it for chases when they can't go over a sidewalk either. What if they want to fishtail the criminal's car, that Lambo's bumper must be worth a fortune, what if it's a pickup truck, the front of a Murcielago is too low for PIT maneuver, probably too low for all non-exotic cars when you think about it.

What about fuel consumption

that is irrelevant but it's fun to watch :P

Actually, that means it more than likely doesn't exist. The story you seem to be claiming as "true" would attract tons of attention.

LAPD can not & would not get away with having 2 Lamborghinis without an investigation of how they received them.
(although, I believe Lamborghini donates them),
They don't. Lamborghini only supports their Italian police force.

As if a criminal will care.

Thanks.

Which has already been posted. Keep up.

I just got my copy for the PS3, so far I can't get my G27 to work with this game. From what the EA forum reports only the PC version will work with the G27 but that's it. Funny you would think console software outsell PC versions by 10 to 1. (I'm taking a wild guess at this)

EA Forums

PS3 Steering Wheel Support:

Logitech and Logitech-compatible steering wheels will not be detected at all on PS3, some others that are based on the PS3 standard controller will work but you'll have to test them to make 100% sure. We will be considering official support for Logitech's Driving Force GT, G25 and G27 wheels at a later date. Other Logitech Driving Force wheels and other wheels that are Logitech "Class B"-compatible should be configurable to work with the game, but are not officially supported.
Why make a racing game you can't drive with a wheel?? What a waste of money, EA dropped the ball on this one & I hope someone gets fired over it for the holidays.

:irked:

why use a wheel on an arcade racer?

@nk4e, Balrog will come along after work tomorrow. wink

Also this online pass thing is kinda dumb... There's a online pass you need to buy in order to play online.. of course when you buy yourself a copy of the game, a voucher code is included.. SO what that means is there's going to be a lot of trouble if any of you plan to buy a used or rent, because chances are the code would have already been used.

The voucher code's value is $10 in the ADD-ON section, but since you would have probably bought a brand new unopened copy, you won't need to grab a PSN card...

Just stating that now before someone complains later.

The game has the best audio effects I've heard in a game since PGR 3 and 4; even the passerby cars sound fantastic. The weather is amazing, driving during a thunderstorm has me smiling like a jackass, being able to turn the car off and on is a feature true to Criterion so that doesn't surprise me. All the little things, however, do...the backfiring (which depending on the vehicle can be fantastically violent), the sound of crickets, airplanes passing by, dust being kicked up by the wind, collisions that actually sound remotely similar to an actual collision/crash all add to the overall experience.

You unlock cars fairly quickly, some according to the class you're currently participating in and others that aren't. There are test drives, free roaming...everything under the sun for Hot Pursuit.

All classic arcade cabinet racers used a wheel, even the Ridge Racers. Midnight Club 4 is an arcade racer and it plays even better and more precise with a G27 including clutch and gated shifter support, Pro Street, Carbon etc. all have shifter support on PS3.

The online pass is not dumb, its smart. Online gamers who buy games used are getting a free ride basically. Unless they buy DLC they are not supporting the game they are playing. Its simple, if you REALLY want to play the game you will buy it new and have no trouble. I wait for games to go on sale. I got BF:BC2 for $39 after tax and it included the bonus code.

I'm all for these online "passes". I am a used game buyer and a bargain hunter. I'll wait for a game to go on sale for $39.99. This time of year you will find many recent releases to go on sale.

I got a used copy of RockBand 2 and the free song code was unused. I just got Modnation Racers for $25 used and its code was unused. Its luck but thats how it is now.

Will wait for this to hit $40 and I'll pick it up.

Even though I have played many games online, I still prefer playing face to face with a friend using splitscreen - much more funnier than playing with random people on the net IMO. ;)

Had the opportunity of playing some Hot Pursuit, if you have to chose between PS3 and Xbox360 buy it on Xbox, once again PS3 third party development is graphically inferior, by quite a margin. I wish elements of Burnout would have been left out, like drifting a airpin at 250km/h in a McLaren F1, the wreck cam can become off-putting especially when there's a lot of action and gameplay keeps getting interupted. It's a good game, physic is like most wanted and the likes, sound great. A good game, it's a shame some simple feature like manual transmission and splitscreen could have made even greater.

I've already returned it to Game Stop & got my money back, sorry I'm way too disappointed in the series now. I thought they would have learned from the errors from UNDERCOVER, it's like a huge step backwards from the quality of SHIFT. I assumed this would have wheel support, some of you might remember the Logitech DFP worked fine with NFS: MOST WANTED on the PS2.

As for the patch or update that I keep hearing about for a wheel option, don't count on it. After reading EA's forums this is an arcade racer, nothing more so don't go holding your breath waiting for it. They will just develop another NFS: INSERT INANE GAME TITLE HERE within two years & there might be a possibility of having wheel controller option.

Wait, what button config is that?

As for me, love it. Sounds are orgasmic. Gameplay is pretty challenging; can't beat the McLaren F1 trial through the mountain. AI is very tough in some situations. Running the Pursuit races in 11 miles whilst trying to stay in the lead can be tricky. The Gauntlet with the M3 is also a challenging one, as you have 2 GT500s constantly trying to take you down.

My only irk is how I unlock the 8C Spyder. Says 19K bounty, but I'm already well above that, unlocking the Ford GT, & MP4-12C as of now.

Press down on the right thumbstick (and hold it for a split second or two). At least I think it should be the right thumbstick...I'm going by the DS3 and ignition is mapped mapped to R3. Check the button config to be certain.

You have to kill the engine with whatever button ignition is mapped to, but you don't have to use the same button (or axis) to turn it back on, you can simply flip the right trigger.

Hmm, picked up a copy before work and I just looked at the box and they gave me the limited edition. Wicked.

👍

The code finally works, get those additional cars!

*Is assuming you've picked up the PS3 version*

Ah, will check that out tomorrow, then. Have already logged 7+ hours in one go, time for a break.

It retails for the same price, but nicely done. 👍

:P

It is addictive. I've been on it since it was delivered earlier this afternoon (I believe 1 or 2-something) and took a short break to catch NCIS, and have been playing again since. I need to take a break myself.

Just spent the last few hours playing this. I'm blown away, especially with what's already been said about the sounds! Love how violent the backfire sounds on the Ford GT police car!

I enjoyed the demo. What is the feedback on the final version of this game? Most important....Is it as fun as NFS: Hot Pursuit 2?????

Is there a split screen 2 player mode? I think it comes out tomorro here, so I'll be trying to pick it up then.;)

Played this last night...

No wheel control is no big deal to me - I played Burnout Paradise exactly 22 seconds with my Fanatec Turbo S wheel before I went back to a gamepad.... I can't imagine this game even being fun with a wheel. Wheel is for Forza, GT5, Dirt, Shift, etc. I wanted this game for playing between more "serious" games like those and one where I just grab a gamepad and go - no setting up the wheelstand, etc.

I think the game is a blast - online is total madness. I loved Burnout but wanted "real" cars so this fits the bill.

Did you notice if you have Paradise or Shift you can go to the Loyalty Rewards screen and get extra bounty as long as you are signing in under the same EA user ID?

What don't I like: no splitscreen, no apparent way to export photos out of the game (this really irks me), and although you can turn off the siren in your own police car I would LOVE to be able control global siren volumes separate from the rest of the sound effects. Clearly the makers of this game don't have spouses...

Anyone want to start adding a list of PSN IDs to have a NFS:HP/GTPlanet Autolog group?

Mine is: strtgng - add me!

What do the Koenigseggs sound like? I should get my copy of the collectors edition tomorrow, and then no more GTP until GT5 comes out so it doesn't spoil anything for me.

CCX

I've only driven the CCX, but it sounds very nice. Handles pretty damn well, too.
