Had a great time. The 1st race I had some problems, the F1 just wouldn't handle like it was in testing. It could have been lag or frame rate, but I think the server just couldn't keep up with us.
In the 1st race I got hit in the butt and went off into the weeds (by accident), I think I ended up in Wales somewhere, it took me ages to get back on the track and to make it worst, I got a 5 sec penalty (bummer).
2nd and 3rd races were great, had a ball.

3rd race, NITROVIOUS and myself had a great battle for 3rd place, loved every minute of it.
Bring on next week. 👍 Thank you Manny, great job. 👍

Thanks a lot MrB. :embarrassed: It was great to finally race with you. I wish it was next weekend already!

SPA oh wow, i crouch behind some one and in the very first corner i did get hit, and land in the last position but that was good chase. From last to second that was the best what could i achieve.

Yea then you flew into the side of me took me clean out into the grass then barrier :grumpy::sly:

:guilty: Two Lancers fighting with each other would only matter worse for me, i wait until you two go wide on that long double turn and try to go inside sliding, but as i did tune my Aston to go inside corner not sliding but i put to much throttle all exited and the car went sideways :guilty:

I't would be a good solution for lag vid. frames problem to split the group of players into two groups.

Now maybe no one will like my idea but I'm seeing this like that. Obviously there are faster players ans slower once. So maybe we could set up a

stronger group like F1
and slower one like F2

If there is an 6 players in each so Every each week the last two players from F1 will go to F2 and The fastest two players from F2 will go to F1.

Think about the motivation for last two players in F1 to not to be in last places :sly: And the fastest players from F2 could have a chance to compete with those better once.

Now i know that might seem to be unfair because how we determine the skills, setting the time in Time trial it's a different story and being hit by some one in real race would end a good run for every player no matter if he's fast or slow. I'm thinking that this is called brain storm, just write your opinions and maybe we will find other better solutions 💡

Great racing guys, i was leading race three but lost my connection :grumpy: i didnt recieve any more invites after that so take it that was the last race?

What happened was, if you sign out of PSN whilst still playing Shift. You have to sign into EA Nation again by pressing R3. As you were not signed into EA Nation, we couldn't invite you back into the game. I tried to alert you in a message but I'm not sure if you got it. :)

Thanks mate, i got your message but to late to rejoin.

SteveO,

After we lost you on that third race, we Quit the race and went back to the lobby. Like Aldo said your icon wasn't lit up so I could'nt reinvite you. :guilty: I then enabled the DLC like I should've done the first time, and we ran the 10-lap classic musclecar race.

Well I think we definately need to do something, as the lag/slowdowns made the first two races impossible to drive fast or to enjoy. (I normally have no trouble with the McLaren, but I was ALL over the place in race 1)

Darkos,

I wasn't sure I liked your idea when I first read it, but after thinking about it for a bit, it does have some very good points.

If the point of this is to have friendly and competitive racing then the closer the driver's skills are to each other in each group the more fun it will be. No one enjoys running around 10 laps with no hope of winning.

I also like the fact that as a driver improves his skills, he can be rewarded with the bump to the higher group.

The only other alternative that I've been able to come up with is something like a small Playoff system.
  • The racers would be randomly split into two groups.
  • Groups A & B would race two races, with the three best drivers from each group based on finishing position, advancing to race in a third race to decide the overall weekly winner.
The obvious problem with this would be coordinating things, as we are spread out all over the planet. So this is probably not workable.

I'd like to hear any other ideas you guys could come up with.

NITROVIOUS has kindly agreed to host next weekend's races and pick the cars and tracks we'll be running, so as soon as he's sent me the info I'll post it here.

Well i was lucky in the silverstone race as i had a nice space between me and the people in front and manny was the only one behind me close enuf to cause slow down in the game.

To be honest i think we may need more regular players for 2 leagues.

It is one thing having a load of players but there no good if there not playing at the same time.

For 2 leagues we need to make sure were going to enuf players from week to week.
Or we will end up with a league that is good and one that is not so good, and then everyone is going to want in the good league.

I'm really looking forward to next weekend :)

This one was fun, the idea of usage the cars from era where "materials to build them had to be dig from the ground and not created in space labs"* was also a great challenge. Shock at first .... what? A McLaren F1 :scared:, maybe he had in mind McLaren SLR.... :) And the late night racing after which i dropped dead immediately 👍 But afterwards i had a long and deep sleep, so it turns out to be OK

True enough.

Obligations the "real world" are bound to happen to all of us to make us miss the weekend league races from time to time, but I think we have a solid core of people:

  1. MannyMoenjack
  2. NITROVIOUS
  3. OZR-MrB52
  4. THE HOG
  5. SteveO1965
  6. Aldo_GTP
  7. Arvore
  8. darkos
  9. JonesyGT246
  10. DGiant2000

  1. GTP_bbcnascar2 was a last minute addition yesterday, but I think he wants to continue.
  2. R.W. (RickyRacer7) will I think, eventually join us.
  3. Kjb (mrbabyboyd) may or may not join us depending on real-life commitments.
  4. iDJ_amp809 Although he accepted my friend request I haven't ever heard from him so I have no idea if he wants to continue.

So if we assume that a couple of people each week will be no-shows because of commitment or connection issues, but a couple of the guys in the lower list do show up, we should have enough for two groups of 5 or 6, which should prevent the lag/slowdown problems.

How about if you set up leagues of 6 and if you dont show then you get put in last position of your league?IDK just a thought.
P.S. If the races could be more in the evening/night maybe we could get more racers?

Well, I'd hate to penalize anyone for fullfilling their real-world commitments, or having a network outage.

As far as the time goes, it's really based on what would work for everyone. Considering that League has players from all over the globe.

Need For Speed – Shift GTP Racing League: Week 1 Results

Just to help keep track of where things stand, I’ve preemptively set up a points system (based on Formula 1)

So after the first Weekend Series the standings are as follows:

PSN Name_______________Total

Need For Speed – Shift GTP Racing League: Week 2

Race Schedule for Saturday January 9th, 2010.

Start Time: 5:00pm Eastern Standard Time for US and Canada, 10:00pm for the folks in the UK, 11:00pm for Poland and 9:00am Sunday January 10th for our Australia.

1. Race 1: The first heat of our North American Tour takes us to Willow Springs GP Raceway located 50 miles north of Los Angeles, California in the mountains near Edward Air Force Base. The cars to be used in this race are any Unrestricted Class car (not reward cars) using any Tuning settings you would be partial to.

2. Race 2: For Race Two we head 228 miles north and to the coast of central California to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This race will feature the awesome Works Converted Lotus Elise 111r. To keep the racing as tight and competitive as possible, please use the tuning settings provided by our sponsor, Renown Tuning™ for the Elise.

3. Race 3: For our final stop we head to Ambush Canyon, where gunslinger Wyatt Earp gunned down five desperados in a… Oh, all right it’s fictitious! But still a fun track! In a continuation of the Classic Musclecar theme everyone will be using the 1969 Dodge Charger R/T with all upgrades and using Terronium-12's tune for that car from the Renown Tuning thread.

Edit: Jan 5, 2010 : Car changed to Ford Shelby GT500. The only upgrade permitted is Tires Stage 2. No Nitrous please. Thx.

Nitrovious will be the host in week 2.

Yup, good job Aldo. 👍 I hope with NITROVIOUS hosting the next race we won't have the same connection issues. Who knows.

Looking good guys 👍 same rules apply? pro settings all assists off? i know some want traction control? i had better get practicing :nervous:

ok, i sent out psn friend requests this morning to the players not already on my list. will need all players on my list so i can host this coming weekend. if im not on your list already please add me.
race 3 ambush canyon, will feature 67 Dodge Charger, TERRONIUMS tune.
(arvore please try to squeeze me into your friends list )

Any upgrades allowed? Also whats the rulings on aids? I think I only have ABS on just now, I'm not sure...

TERRONIUMS 67 Dodge Charger is rated 9.10, i assume that includes all available upgrades,
personally i believe driver aids like traction control etc. should be up to the individual to decide. however you will need clarification from Manny on this issue.

I don't think traction control should not be allowed as it offers to much of an advantage over not using it, or at least we should have it in the rules that if it is used it has to be on the low setting.

and abs in my mind is more of a hinder that a help so i am not bothered on that.

Yeah
I've not actually tried without ABS but if its a hinderance I'll need to tur it off :P

Well that is just my opinion, but a lot of people find it to better once they get the hang of driving with out abs.

This sounds like your having great fun. Give it another week or so with the new wheel and I think I'll be back up to speed enough to join you 👍

Hi Guys,

For those used to running traction control I sympathize with you, but I have to think that it represents a significant advantage for those using it. (ie., TC can have full throttle coming out of a corner vs. no TC has to feed throttle in slowly not to break traction.)

I also think the McLaren F1 with it’s tendency to lose the back-end may have been a rude shock for those used to TC, but most cars are much more forgiving, so I think the learning curve will be pretty short for those turning off TC for the first time.

Having said all that stuff above, this isn’t my league so if others think TC should be allowed I won’t argue. (I’ll just start using it myself!) :sly:

ABS is a slightly different story as breaking distances are actually a bit longer with it on, so it doesn’t give a racing advantage, but it will prevent loss of control if you are not used to threshold breaking. So if you are used to it, I don’t see any problems with using ABS.

DGiant2000: This sounds like your having great fun. Give it another week or so with the new wheel and I think I'll be back up to speed enough to join you

That would be great. By the way, what wheel are you getting used to? :)

i think Manny's above statement is fair .
i turned assists off when i entered the R/T TT competition a few weeks ago, and haven't looked back since.
pro handling takes getting used to, no arguement there. but i find my times are faster now.
i kept abs on though. better straight line deceleration without lockup, for this cowboy anyway.
1 more thing about upcoming races. these are pretty technical tracks to drive. if you get into the weeds on any of them will be hard to get back on track.

OK, I'm trying to get rid of ABS as we speak. Practice, practice, practice!
Are we allowed to use the nitrous? I didn't use it in the 10 rating race last weekend as I wasn't sure on the rules surrounding the usage. :)

Yes, nitrous is OK.

For me it was run without any help from the cars. I did turn off ABS like month ago as a last thing to master = breaking, and from that time it serve me well.

I understand if some one wants to use some help, for me it was clearly disadvantage. Especially during the start while others shoots out further and faster than i am. :guilty: I just had to get rid of TC and SC.

But in last Road America race i did use Nitrous help while going uphills.
