My brand new G25 :D I'm still very slow though :lol:
Ah, good choice! 👍
I loved the G25 from the first time I used it. It took a while for me to get it properly adjusted in Shift, and I was changing settings all the time, but it seems dialed-in to my liking now.

I heard the Fanatec GT3 wheel is excellent too, and I may consider that if I wear-out my G25.

I got one 2, totally opens a new experience for racing games.
I just finished making my self a cockpit for my g25 using MDF and chipboard with a ford focus seat with moving sliders and height adjustment, it sounds good but its a ghetto thing to look at :lol::lol:.

wear-out my G25 ?? those things are indestructable. Before i bought my G25 i did think about G27 but i was still too newest thing on the market and the proper software must being deploy from game designers to force G27 to cooperate properly with games. Especially the older games.

Quick question about First race at Willow Springs GP. Unrestricted, that means We could use any car? Like Zonda R or Lambo LP640?

I hope it is indestructable... If I were to spend another couple hundred $ on a racing wheel now my wife would strangle me in my sleep! :lol:

I believe so, yes.

Cannot wait for next weeks meet should do a lot better this time now i have built my cockpit for my G25 steering wheel, now i can press on the brake pedal as hard as i like and not have to worry about what position my pedal box was going to move in :lol:

Only cost me £20 British pounds it looks a bit ruff but i have to move a few things but cannot complain really better than the flimsy cheap computer desk i had before.

few pics (AND NO THIS IS NOT ME SHOWING OFF MY WORK.......NO THATS A LIE I AM SHOWING OFF :lol::lol::lol::lol:)

Nice! 👍
Far better than the thing my non-G25 wheel sits on... Laptop table from Ikea, put together by me...
Its functional... Kinda :lol:
Do you boys use your wheel for these race meets? I might have a go on mine tomorrow as I've not used it in a while

Wow, nice work! My DIY skills are sadly lacking so the wife bought me a wheelstand pro which, if you can afford the outlay, is a very decent bit of kit.

Shift is a far better experience and a completely different game with a wheel in my opinion!

I love mine never looked back at a controller, opened up racing games in a hole new way for me.
I have about 15 games i have collected before x mas and as x mas pressies and i haven't played one, i keep meaning to but i just don't seem to be getting bored of racing games :lol:

Whoops! I hate to embarrass you, but you've put the shifter on the wrong side!:lol: (kidding of course)

I think your seat looks more comfortable than mine!

This is my setup in the unfinished basement of my house.

Welcome to The Cave....:scared:

My wife won't even come down here without armed escort... So it's perfect!

You'd think with all this I'd be a better driver wouldn't you!:)

Hey you got the seat i was going to bye, its not a bad setup its compact and easy for storage were as mine well it is on the big side lol.
And i got my seat out of a ford focus in a salvage yard its has its sliders in use and has height adjustment not a bad find :lol:

Good set up Hog and Manny, my set up is about the same as yours Hog, but didn't use a car seat. I use my good computer chair, it fully adjustable and tilts back so I can get into a nice comfortable driving position. That set up that you have Manny is what I wanted, it looks really cool, but to many $ for me so had to make do with what I have.

This weeks round looks great, Like NITROVIOUS, I like the little Lotus, no great top speed but does it handle. The 67 Dodge is going to be a hand full around Ambush Canyon, what a great challenge.
Now what to use on Willow Springs 💡 have no idea.

Willow Springs track is one I don't race on all that much, so I'm really going to have to learn it in a hurry. No idea about what to drive there yet.:confused:

^Something that is good with tight corners... If that track is the one I think it is :P
I haven't a clue what I want to drive there. I don't really want to go for the obvious choice of the LP640 or the Zonda, but I'll probably end up driving one of the two :irked:
Also, forgot to say, I'm liking The Cave Manny! And the home-made effort from Hog! Respect for making that yourself. All it needs is some racing stripes and your onto a winner! :lol:

Had a several runs on each track today and these are the times I squeezed out of the cars.

Laguna Seca - Works Lotus Elise 111R - 1.21.440. The little car flys around this track.

Ambush Canyon - 67 Dodge Charger - 1.33.620. Manny, what are you doing to us. I totaled the car (if you could total it) three times to get that time. One very hard race this will be.

Willow Springs GP - Lambo LP640 - 1.13.080 Zonda R - 1.14.316 Dodge Viper - 1.14.640

I thought the LP640 would be the fastest around Willow Springs but the surprise packet of my unrestricted cars was the Works Viper, with T12's tune on it and a little more down force to the back end that beast goes well around the track and it looks so good with the 10 jugs sticking out of the bonnet. With a bit more practice I think I can get the Viper's time down under the Zonda's time.

I know whatyou mean about the charger mate, its a brute! It corners like an elephant that has taken a few sleeping pills!
I'm still getting to grips with absolutely no aids... I tried the ZO6 works... Oh dear...

I quite like the charger if i am honest i cannot get it round the track that quick but its not the worst to drive.
Its getting used to 4 gears that is a challenge for me i keep forgetting and shifting to 5th on my g25 and then spending the next few seconds gormlessly looking at the accelerator pedal wondering why there is no power.:dopey:

Need For Speed – Shift GTP Racing League: Week 2: Jan 5, 2010 Update

In an effort to preserve from destruction the few 1969 Dodge Charger R/T's left in the world, NITROVIOUS and I have decided to change the car for Race Three of the League Racing.:)

But seriously, the Charger is going to be a bit of a handfull for many of us on that track, so in order to keep the racing as competitive as possible, we thought a change to a more modern musclecar...

So, for the Third Race at Ambush Canyon, the car to be run is the Ford Shelby GT500. The only upgrade allowed for this race is TIRES STAGE 2. With this upgrade the car will have a rating of 6.97.

This will be similar to a Manufacturers race, so no Nitrous please.

Sorry for the late notice on this one.
Thanks, Manny.

ok mate, was getting good with the charger too ow well the gt500 should make for a better race.

Yeah, I really think the GT500 will be a better race. Sorry for the false trail there...

By the way, is anyone else having trouble on Willow Springs with the huge bumps? It's very strange because they seem to come and go.

I know how to avoid the ones on the main straight but I hit one at the apex of turn 3 and one just before the braking zone on turn 4. Both of them get the front of the car completely airborne, nearly always resulting in crash.

I've had the problem with the Lambo Merc and the Zonda...:confused:

I sold my GT500 to buy the Ford GT to see what it was like. I'll sell the GT and buy the GT500 and have a go on Ambush Canyon. I don't know what the GT500 will handle like with only stage 2 tires on it, might be a lot of back ends hanging out a bit. But that's the way I like it, with 15 years racing speedway hanging the ass-end out comes natural to me. :crazy:

Only bump I have had problem with is on the main straight, there is 3 or 4 repaired patches on the right hand side of the track just before the first corner and if you run over the last patch, your front end is up in the air and it totally screws up that first corner. You have to stay just to the left of the patches to get a good run into the first corner. The other bumps I haven't hit Manny, I might be taking a different line in those corners. If they are there I'll hit them. :mad:

I think... I may have solved the problem as I just ran 8 laps without bouncing. What I did on the Lambo Merc was set the Bump Stop Length to 8 and the Bump Stop Firmness* to 2.

When I did hit that huge bump on the front straight it was much more controllable, and the other bumps I mentioned were never noticed.
.
.

*I've never heard it mentioned before, but has anyone ever noticed this glitch?

In Tuning: Springs & Dampers It has adjustments for FRONT BUMP STOP LENGTH followed by REAR BUMP STOP LENGTH, but the units of adjustment don't make sense.
Under Front Bump Stop Length the slider says "Short -> Tall" but the Rear Bump Stop Length has a slider that says "Soft -> Stiff".

For a long time I just assumed that the "Soft->Stiff" label was wrong and it should read Short->Tall, but I don't think so anymore. I don't think these are front and rear adjustments at all but apply to all four bump stops. In other words the suspension overtravel length, and the firmness of the overtravel spring.

I might be wrong but it seems to work that way.

Possibly it is bugged in the UI. There are still some strange things that go on in there even after the last patch, some settings that don't properly reset to defaults when you change cars, settings that stay locked or unlocked when you switch R/FWD and AWD cars.

The settings you adjust there are controlled in the chassis file, firstly under suspension overrides:

(all of these are from the lp640)

[SUSPENSION]
ApplySlowToFastDampers=0 // whether to apply slow damper settings to fast damper settings

(this then goes on to a bunch of other stuff and links to a different suspension file full of largely irrelevant things)

Then under each wheel (left and right are always symmetrical in the UI but can be set differently in the files themselves)

[REARRIGHT]
BumpTravel=-0.010 // travel to bumpstop with zero packers and zero ride height
ReboundTravel=-0.200 // these two numbers assume rear ride height is 40cm to 100cm with 10cm leeway
BumpStopSpring=125000.0 // initial spring rate of bumpstop
BumpStopRisingSpring=1.25e9 // rising spring rate of bumpstop (multiplied by deflection squared)
BumpStopDamper=1050.0 // initial damping rate of bumpstop
BumpStopRisingDamper=2.19e7 // rising damper rate of bumpstop (multiplied by deflection squared)
BumpStage2=0.090 // speed where damper bump moves from slow to fast
ReboundStage2=-0.090 // speed where damper rebound moves from slow to fast
FrictionTorque=12.50 // Newton-meters of friction between spindle and wheel
SpinInertia=1.70 // inertia in pitch direction including any axle
CGOffsetX=-0.030 // x-offset from graphical center to physical center (NOT IMPLEMENTED)
PushrodSpindle=(0.120, -0.150, 0.000) // relative to spindle
PushrodBody=(0.120, 0.320, 0.000) // spring/damper connection to body (relative to wheel center)
CamberRange=(-3.0, 0.1, 36)
CamberSetting=15
PressureRange=(180.0, 1.0, 106)
PressureSetting=50
PackerRange=(0.000, 0.001, 41)
PackerSetting=0
SpringMult=1.00 // take into account suspension motion if spring is not attached to spindle (affects physics but not garage display)
SpringRange=(85000.0, 7083.0, 6)
SpringSetting=0
RideHeightRange=(0.095, -0.005, 6)
RideHeightSetting=0
DamperMult=1.00 // take into account suspension motion if damper is not attached to spindle (affects physics but not garage display)
SlowBumpRange=(3200.0, 300.0, 6)
SlowBumpSetting=0
FastBumpRange=(2000.0, 200.0, 6)
FastBumpSetting=0
SlowReboundRange=(8000.0, 600.0, 6)
SlowReboundSetting=0
FastReboundRange=(5000.0, 600.0, 6)
FastReboundSetting=0
(bunch of brake settings after this snipped)

So that doesn't seem to happen in the files, but possibly it is another bug in the UI. Nobody has managed to crack into that part yet and see exactly how the menus change things.

Any points for how much air you can get. :sly:

Good choice for car Manny and NITROVIOUS, the race should be very close. With a little bit of slip/slidin around I managed to get a 1.36.650. The GT500 isn't bad even with only stage 2 tires on.

That's a good observation Manny, regarding bump stop values. i'll look into it.
I have had the same problem with those bumps @ Willow springs GP before, i use bumper cam so when i hit those bumps i end up looking at the lovely blue sky and fluffy white clouds. this is just poor track layout, these bumps should have been addressed in the last patch.

GREAT AIR, you must have felt like Steve McQueen in Bullit lol

I haven't had a try of willow springs in anything other than my Audi r8, i best go test my car today after i do some final testing on the BMW make sure the line i take on willow springs does not turn my car into a psychopath lol.

From my point of view.

After a lot of laps with Zonda i didn't notice any bumps at Willow Springs, but only one which you should manage by not getting your car in going too fast, otherwise it will jump.

Willow Springs should be a good race, after start we have long straight road and then fast turn in left. Lambo drivers should jump into a lead of a race very quickly, but then we have turns that may put Zonda drivers closely at their backs.

I'm expecting a hell come down at Laguna Seca, again first tight corner will cause some crashes, I'm almost sure of it. And a little devil lotus 111R will not make any easier to drive at this track, I've had to work a lot of time with this car to force it into a cooperation. But that's gonna be a exhausting race, because there is a little place to overtake and then if you force your self to do it then god save us all. If you gain a lead after first two corners then the level of concentration during race should be immense.

As for Third race i didn't race at Ambush Canyon for a very long time. I'm planning to go there in Friday after work to do some tests.

I just can't wait for this weekend race, late night race

Saturday could get embarrasing for me...After recieving Call of Duty yesterday, I can't pull myself away from it to practice for these races! I think that is a good decision canning the older muscle car to make way for the GT500, it should be much more controllable. 👍
I think I might be on race pace though because at Willow Springs, I managed to get a 1:19 after 3 laps in the Lambo Murc and I know exactly where I can improve.
And as for Laguna, I should be fine. Its my favourite track in GT4 and have logged many, many laps on it on Shift as well.
I'm not sure about Ambush Canyon, fairly unfamilier territory there for me.
Looking forward to it ;)
