Even some of his teammates are speaking out against him, which is almost unheard of...

They got sick of him in Vancouver and it seems that he's wearing his welcome out in Pittsburgh as well.

I would be very surprised if he's on the Pens roster after this year. Hopefully he'll be looking for a job in the KHL with Chris Simon next year.

The thing with Cooke though, is that if the Penguins released him, there would be 29 other GM's on the phone with him right away. He's a total greaseball, deserves every minute of this suspension. The day after the hit, TSN's facebook asked if you'd rather have Cooke or Avery, and I think I'd pick Avery. Avery seems like a /b/ troll more than anything, and he's a more complete player. Cooke is just reckless.

Habs-Bruins rematch tonight, can't say I expect there to be any funny business, considering that the NHL explicitly warned both teams before the game, and the playoff implications of this game (Montreal is 3 points back of Boston for the division lead). Paul Mara, Ryan White, or Travis Moen might scrap, but that's about it.

Yeah I saw that on Facebook, I replied with a clever response, I said I pick my replacement. Teams don't need guys like him. Although in reality I would sign Avery, because he can actually score goals and setup plays.

And I can't wait for the Habs-Bruins game tonight. What channel is it on? (TSN, CBC?)

I hope Montreal takes the division, then, as long as Boston doesn't make it to the conference finals the Leafs will have a pretty nice pick from the Kaberle Trade. If Boston wins the division the pick is guaranteed to be in the mid to high 20s.

Last 2 picks go to the Conference Champions obviously, next 2 to conference finalists, the next 6 go to the division winners (assuming they all don't make the conference championship)

So yeah, go Habs.

We'll see, I imagine Montreal will win tonight, they've had Boston's number all year (besides the 8-6 gong show), and I'm confident they'll play inspired and have something to win for. Let's hope Julien starts Rask again :D. I hope Montreal wins the division just so there's 0 chance of playing Philly, I think Montreal could handle any team in the East (especially Boston and Tampa) except Philadelphia.

Ouch, maybe you guys don't want me on the Habs side, hurtin.

Just got home from class time to crack a few beers and watch the leafs. I guess 9pm starts don't suck all the time.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised. Really, the Canadiens are a 7th or 8th place team that Jacques Martin has had playing above their heads. They only have two players even close to 50 points, and one is a defenseman (Wisniewski). The team's been decimated by injuries, the little three (Gomez, Cammalleri, and Gionta) have done 🤬 all the entire season, and the defense is like swiss cheese. The only players that are what I would consider impact players are Plekanec and Price (Cammalleri when he's on his once yearly hot streak), and Markov but he's injured.

Look at Montreal's top D pairing. Hamrlik-Wisniewski. An aging guy who would be a #4 guy on a good team, and a PP specialist who should really be on the third pairing. The second pairing is Gill-Subban, another fossil who is a borderline #4 guy, and Subban who is still very raw. The third pairing has been a revolving door and is finally somewhat stable with Mara and Sopel, but the damage has been done.

Really, I'm not disappointed in the team, but Gauthier needs to make some big moves this summer. Resign Markov (he's too good to let him walk), resign Wisniewski if it's affordable, try to find another top 4 defenseman, and perhaps resign Mara or Hamrlik to play on the third pairing. One of Gomez, Gionta, and Cammalleri needs to go, ideally it would be Gomez, but realistically it'll probably be Cammalleri, as he provides the best trade value, Gionta's the new captain, and Gomez's contract is a total albatross.

This team will be better next year with Pacioretty back and a year older, Subban a year older, Markov and Gorges back, I trust Pierre Gauthier will make some bold moves this summer, considering he was willing to trade Halak last year (for Lars Eller, who is really blossoming as of late).

Any overachieving team like that does give you hope for the next season too.

Nobody saw Montreal making the run they made last year though, so as long as they make the playoffs, which is a given pretty much, you can't rule much out.

It'd be a shame for Cammalleri go, especially after how great he played in the playoffs last year. He's been pretty hampered with injuries this year, and has seemed off his game, but it'd still be a shame to see him go (for you anyway). I used to like him but after trading Iginla straight up for him in my money league for fantasy hockey (hey I needed LW help bad) I'm pretty down on him now. Worst trade of my entire life.

Two Nik Kulemin goals and a 2-1 lead after the first are certainly improving my night. The magic hat #9 is helping too :)

Go Leafs! If they make the Playoffs I'll be happy :)

But yeah, Cammalleri when he's on a hot streak is as good as any elite forward in the game. Stamkos, Malkin, Crosby, Cammalleri on a hot streak like last year's playoffs is just as good as any of them. Unfortunately, when he's not on a hot streak, he's in his own little world and tries to do too much himself. Ideally, Gomez would be traded, because Gionta and Cammalleri both provide good value to the team, but nothing short of pulling a rabbit from the hat would make that possible. The only conceivable way I think any team would take him is if the Canadiens agreed to pay half his salary or something (which they could do without any trouble). I really wish Montreal could have got Penner (this offseason, not at the deadline).

Penner-Plekanec-Cammalleri
Pacioretty-Gomez/Eller-Gionta

I think the future players are maturing, and when Pacioretty and Eller really come into their own, Montreal will maybe be able to finally shake that "smurf" handle. I'm excited for the playoffs, and I really think Montreal will at least take the first round, but I'm even more excited to see what Gauthier can do in the offseason.

Lmao, everyone on the Canadiens forum is calling for Martin's head. If we had have given up on Martin this year, we'd be down at the bottom of the standings with Atlanta and the Islanders. Martin's been turning lemons into lemonade all year, and last night it finally ran dry. No worries, I'm still confident the Habs can take any team in the East besides Philadelphia.

hey guys need you help, have a question regarding NHL jersey sizes

Ordered one which arrived today, tried it on and well its a bit on the 'baggy' side. Its a medium size jersey. my question is whats the general style that people have for wearing jerseys? with say just another t-shirt under it, i know its meant to be like a 'loose fit' anyway

medium size: Medium - 42" chest, body 30"

i was thinking on returning it and getting a small - Small 36" chest, body length 28"
would prob fit better and still be slightly loose on me wearing it

but just thought i'd ask, also may help give you an idea how loose a medium is on me, I'm around 6'1" and about 75kg and slim build

any help much appreciated :)

Is it just me, or is Marc Andre Fleury one of the most overrated goalies in the league? He's not a bad goalie at all, but he's just such an average goalie, I don't understand why he gets so much credit. Last year in the Montreal-Pittsburgh series he was awful at the worst times.

He (Fleury) is a good goalie, he just isn't great like people say he is. The reason people think he is great, is the reason why he is only good. When Brent Johnson starts in goal and wins a lot, that says the team is good. If Fleury was playing on a team like Edmonton, we'd say he's average at best.

It's not that Fleury's bad, but I don't see why the Penguins would sign him for $5M when he's just so...mediocre.

Yeah good win for the leafs. Not like we're gonna make the playoffs, but we don't want Boston to get that lottery pick. Also, you guys are right on in saying that Fleury isn't that good. I find that he makes his saves, especially glove saves look flashy by flinging his glove around for 3 seconds after he catches it.

RIP Mandi Schwartz :(

She played for Yale in NCAA women's hockey and was on the brink of making Canada's national team when she was diagnosed with leukemia. She lost her battle with the disease this morning after 2 years. She was the sister of Blues prospect Jaden Schwartz.

I remember reading about her earlier in the year :(

RIP Mandi.

On a lighter note, Roman Hamrlik has been named the Canadiens unsung hero for this season, which I 100% agree with. Carey Price, followed by Tomas Plekanec have been the team MVP's, but after those two it's easily Roman Hamrlik. Hamrlik has had to be the number one guy for two years in a row due to Markov's injuries, and he's simply too old and shouldn't have to be the number 1 guy. Hamrlik's been by far Montreal's best defenseman in the defensive zone, and second best (behind Wisniewski) for PP and offensive zone play. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves because everyone's giddy about Subban and Wisniewski, but without Hamrlik this team is out of the playoffs right now.

Hamrlik is the only legitimate top 4 defenseman on the team. Subban may be fun to watch, and he's certainly stepped up and done an admirable job with more minutes, but he's still a rookie, and on a better team, would be on the third pairing. Spacek's played well, borderline #4 guy at times, but is too old and slow to be getting top pairing minutes. Gill, Mara, Gorges, and Sopel are all dependable 3rd pairing guys, but can't handle the minutes and matchups. Yannick Weber still has much growing to do, and I'm not confident he'll ever be more than a #6 defenseman and PP specialist. Wisniewski has done a lot on the PP, but he's very mistake prone in his own end, and is again only a #5 defenseman. Outside of Hamrlik, the best defenseman has been Subban, which should show just how bad Montreal's injury situation has been.

Next year, I'm hoping Hamrlik, Markov, Wisniewski, and one of Gill/Mara/Gorges (whoever's cheapest) resign, and Jaro Spacek get's traded. That way, Gauthier can find a top pairing UFA Dman we can use these pairings...

Markov-UFA D-Man
Hamrlik-Subban
Mara/Gill/Gorges- Wisniewski
Weber.

That looks like a good top 6 defense core to me.

Great game, I watched the first two periods and I'm ashamed that I missed Reimer's performance in the third +overtime, real life got in the way though.

Also RIP playoff hopes, even if they had won, Buffalo beating Tampa sealed their fate.

Still, this is the most promising team I've seen since the lockout, and I'm finally starting to believe in Burke's plan. I think we'll have a perennial playoff contender on our hands in a few years.

Well, as one door closes another opens they say, as the Leafs were mathematically eliminated, the Canadiens beat the Blackhawks to clinch a playoff spot. PK Subban was on fire tonight, he was making great plays in the offensive zone and playing defense like a boss. Carey Price was in beast mode as well, and Michael Cammalleri seems to finally have broken out of his funk. PK scored on an absolute rocket in OT, and with the way they're coming together at the end of the year I'm getting really excited for the playoffs.

I hope that the Habs can stay in 6th, because I really do still think they can beat the Bruins. Montreal still won the season series, and besides the last time they played (and to a lesser extent the Price vs Thomas fight game), really did take it to the Bruins for the most part. I think the Habs could once again give Washington a run for their money, but I think their best chance still lies with the Bruins. To play the Flyers in the first round is instant elimination, but I guess that's what everyone said about Habs-Capitals last year, so you never know.

I'm going to be honest though, tonight I was more intently watching the Leafs game than the Habs game because the Habs game degenerated into a bit of a trapfest, but the Leafs game was very entertaining with Reimer's incredible play and the sheer level of urgency both teams showed. It was really exciting hockey.

I'm just so damn excited for the playoffs, I can't wait. I love watching hockey until 2 AM, and some of those late night Western Conference games can be real gems. The pace and tempo in the playoffs is just so exciting, you really feel like every player is giving their all every shift.

Habs-Leafs tonight! If Montréal wins tonight, they secure 6th place, and hopefully draw Boston in the 1st round.

Boston would be, at same time, the best and the worst opponent Montreal could face. Best because the playoff record favours Montreal, wqorst because this series promises to be the most violent since the Avs-Wings late-90's wars, and the winning team probably won't get through conference finals.

I don't want Montreal to draw Philadelphia or Washington, that wouldn't end well. I really think the Canadiens could win a series with the Bruins.
