There's only a one letter difference between thread names, I think that was meant to go in the NFL thread. It's irrelevant anyway, since memes are going to be banned from GTPlanet in the near future. :P

New York Islanders will be moving to Brooklyn for the start of the 2015-16 year for at least 25 years, sharing the Barclays Center with the Brooklyn Nets.

Looking like the 82 game season is gone soon. Hilarious, the players are about to give up 10-20% of their salaries right now to avoid losing 7% :lol:

Hope Toews and Crosby are having fun dressing up and playing businessman.

All November games canceled. That's what I read on ESPN's SportsCenter. This is not looking good for you NHL fans this season...

The players have sacrificed $760M in lost salaries thus far. Guess how far apart the NHL and the NHLPA were on their last offers?

600M over the life of the deal. Hooray.

I really wonder if the NHL can recover from another lost season(assuming they don't get something sorted out).

Sucks too considering the off-season the Wild had.:(

They'll do...alright. Hockey's core fans are a resilient bunch, and the sport will always be immensely popular in Canada. Issue is that the NHL is becoming even more of a joke and this won't help change that.

The Winter Classic has now been canceled. May be safe to say that not even a half season may be possible at this point. How do you NHL fans deal with something like this?

The NHL and National Hockey League Players' Association met for a little over an hour Sunday in negotiations toward a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.
:rolleyes: Wow, they are really going all out to get this solved.

They did meet for FOUR days in a row, then had lunch together Saturday, so I guess an hour on Sunday was all anyone was up for.

Here is a little bit of positive news outside of this wicked lockout. Four hockey players were recently voted into the most recent Hall of Fame. Here are the inductees:

* Joe Sakic
* Pavel Bure
* Adam Oates
* Mats Sundin

I'm sorry if I misspelled someone or forgot someone. Congratulations to these four players.

That's the four, always hated Sundin, in a "damnit he scored on the Canadiens again" way.

Absolute joke. Letting everyone down.

Agreed. I dont think the NHL ever got over the last lockout and now here we are just a few years later. Just as everyone is really getting back into the sport. Now they are going to have to fight to regain the market.

Revenue increased from 2.1 to 3.3 billion from the season before the last lockout to last season.

I think that this will be the basis on them holding off so long.

PLUS;

Thank god the 4-conference idea got K.O'd, think about being a fan of someone like SJ in the UK, having to stay up till 6:30AM for 75% of the matches.

Interesting. Never looked at the economics of it. Guess that would have been a good idea. Now I know. :dunce:

The numbers don't quite tell the whole story though. A big part of it is the Canadian dollar being at par or slightly above the USD.

And ticket price increases probably account for part of it. The most interesting stat would be the year-by-year attendance numbers

Apparently both sides will meet later today. I have a feeling that if they don't get a deal done in the next week the season will be done for.:nervous:

They didn't cancel it all until february last time, so there's still time but the clock is definitely ticking.

Is it really this hard to make a deal?! And when if never they get a deal, i hope the Russians whose been talking about not coming back, comes back.

I get the feeling this has gone past money, and is now about pride. Neither side wants to be the one that makes the biggest compromise

If thats the reason, this is complite bullcrap. They should make a 100-year deal next. Make the deal for the love to sport of for the fans, not for the pride or money. Is it really that hard?!
