Well, looks like we're into do or die time now. The next block of cancellations will be the whole season.

Maybe this is the proverbial "apples and oranges" deal... but if the NFL and NBA could sort their issues, why can't the NHL? It doesn't help one's league or someone to have this same issue twice in about eight years. Agree to SOMETHING, NHL!

NHL made another proposal, 300M of make whole, 6 year contract limits, and 10% variance are the biggest parts of it. They're having a conference call on Saturday, and meeting in NYC on Sunday. Fingers crossed.

The NHL has to agree to SOMETHING if they want their fans to get to see some hockey for Christ's sake. I know there's a lot to negotiate and all, but something has to be agreed upon to at least see some hockey action this season, if not next.

Well, this would be the time. The drop dead date is allegedly January 11, so there's finally some urgency and it should get done. I still can't see the season being cancelled, Fehr is one of the best sports lawyers around, he won't ditch a whole season for an extra year on contracts. You've got to hand it to Fehr, he said to wait it out for the offers to get better, and they have.

I just hope it gets done soon, one of my New Years resolutions is to start a Hockey blog (specifically focussed on the Canadiens). I write a lot of posts on hockey forums and I think it'd be nice to maybe get paid for it. I just think it'd be a cool thing to start up.

New deal tentatively in place.

The Rundown:

- Free Agent contracts can not go beyond seven years, though if they resign with their old team, they may go a maximum eight years.

- All Hockey related income will be split like Basketball, 50-50. Under the old deal, it was 57-43 in favor of the players.

- Salary Cap for the remainder of the year will be set at $70.2 million. Next year, the cap will be at $64.3 million, however, each team must have a minimum salary of $44 million.

- The CBA will last 10 years, however, according to TSN Canada, there is an opt-out clause that could take effect after eight years.

- The remaining games that are yet to be canceled could be played as early as Jan. 19(a 48 game season).

EDIT: This was copied and pasted from another board that I talk hockey. Please ignore the news like status of the wording.

HFBoards? That's where I got most of my lockout news. I'm glad there's 2 amnesty buyouts included, Habs are likely gonna ditch Gomez and Kaberle or Bourque. I'm just really happy it got sorted out. I like the 8 year guarantee as well, hopefully they go the full 10 years.

I'm glad the lockout is over so I can get back to the official Canadiens board. It's really tightly run and discussion there is much better. HFboards scares me. I did find the sheer volume of posters on HFboards helped for lockout/cba news though.

Saku Koivu said that the NHL might start the 15th so it could be 50 game season. Who knows.

Oh, just had a thought. I used to be able to listen to the Vancouver radio feed for free via the website of the radio station. Doesn't help for video, and I don't know whether it still works or in what markets, but it was free.

Classic
Ive heard 19 game season.

Thank christ it looks like its over.

It's either 50 games starting Jan. 15, or 48 starting Jan. 19, depends on how quickly the legal-ese gets sorted out.

I will sign up after University.

Oh look, NHL.com ratting on the Wings again. Some things never change.

It doesn't really work like that...you play Fantasy Hockey during the season, it's based on what happens in real games.
