Games now canceled up to December 14, and the NHL All-Star game has been canceled as well. So what do you say- EXTREMELY short season or no season at all?

Oh yea, now they called for help outside the NHL. If they dont get a deal, their ruining my Christmas. Last year i watched Boston-Florida before going to bed and waking up for Christmas, but now theyre taking that away from me!

Kill Bettman and Fehr!

Do you guys now who are all the NHL teams "problem solvers"? Not sure of the real term for them. Those guys who go to the meetings with bettman and fehr (refuse to use capital letters on their name).

The owners of the teams. And in your case, you should be just as angry with Jeremy Jacobs as Bettman, Jacobs is the chairman of the NHL's board of governors, and Bettman is just a puppet.

Well, they're close but still fairly far apart, the players don't want to lose pay off of contracts that were already signed, and are counting on increased revenue growth allowing them to get the full value of their contracts, but take a lower percentage of revenue. Both sides are still 180-200M apart. The biggest issue is nobody knows what kind of damage has been done to league revenues yet.

Doesnt sound promising...

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly issued the following statement regarding the two days of meetings that concluded today with representatives of the NHL Players’ Association under the auspices of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service:

"Today, we concluded two days of mediation with FMCS mediators and representatives of the NHL Players' Association. After spending several hours with both sides over two days, the presiding mediators concluded that the parties remained far apart, and that no progress toward a resolution could be made through further mediation at this point in time. We are disappointed that the mediation process was not successful."

There has seemingly been a lot of progress in the past few days. Owners and players meeting in NYC for the past 2 days, without Don Fehr and Bettman in the room. They've been meeting all day today, the NHL set up a podium for a press conference about an hour back. Kobe hit 30,000 points tonight and he's getting out trended in Canada by #PodiumWatch

Hockey fans are an odd bunch. If anything, this shows how there can be 2 lockouts in 8 years. I can picture someone asking Gary Bettman about how the fans will react to the lockout, and him replying with "there's a Twitter account called @NHLPodium".

EDIT: Now twitter and hockey forums are reporting that the owners are being brought milkshakes by NHL staffers. That's got to be a good sign, how do you get pissed off during a negotiation and go "damn, I could really use a milkshake!"

It all blew up today, Bettman was in rare form. If anyone takes anything from this, I hope people stop criticizing Bettman for not caring about the game.

I read from ESPN's Bottom Line (actually was watching ESPNU, but still- ESPN is ESPN) that games up to December 30 have been canceled. God bless you if you still have faith that some kind of season will be played for the 2012-2013 season. I almost thought about setting up a college hockey thread just to keep hockey discussion (of some kind) going on GTPlanet.

But again... according to reports, games up to December 30 have now been canceled. So, uh... now what?

Honestly I still think there's gonna be a shortened year. It will just be the 2013 season though, not 2012-13.

This season isn't happening, and at this rate...the NHLPA will be gone, as will all the Russian stars. No reason for them to play in the NHL with the level at their own respective league.

The KHL (Russian league), has pretty strict standards on which locked out NHLers can play, it's limited to mostly veteran star players. The scrubs will have to go elsewhere in Europe. The longer this process goes, the messier it gets.

I wasn't missing it too much until late November rolled around. I'm really starting to miss watching Habs games through the week, and watching 2 games on Saturday. It's just...frustrating as a fan.

Pretty much sums it up...would be totally lost without NHL13!

Yeah, same here. The combination of my first year of university and NHL 13 has kept me busy enough not to miss it so much.

The Ultimate Team usually takes up my time BUT it can be very very frustrating.
