Nintendo Switch

I'll wait and see but I wouldn't bet on this yet.

@Benny44 it isn't anywhere near as powerful though.
We have nothing official on that, we'll have to wait and see. It certainly looks like it has more power than WiiU....it wouldn't have to be a lot more powerful to be close. Either way, games and how they implement the control schemes are going to judge this console

The Eurogamer leaked specs suggest it's not even half as powerful as the XB1 (the weakest current gen console) http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-nintendo-switch-spec-analysis . Granted Nintendo's first party do make great use of the Hardware but I still think the price point is 50$ too high, considering there is still an online pay wall.

Liked that you can play SNES games online and also a new Super Bomberman game (Hopefully that comes to other platforms too).

Presentation:

After reading a bit more I can't see this selling huge units. Speculation on my side is that Nintendo will become a software-only company which will develop games for mobile market (Apple, Android) and Microsoft's and Sony's consoles.

Well now we know pretty much all the ins'n'outs will I buy one?

Seeing as I still have an under-utilised WiiU and I mainly bought it for the new Zelda game which is now Breath Of The Wild. I'm going to not bother with the Switch unless something comes along which is a must buy for me.

I will buy BOTW, but for the WiiU.

I'm probably going to do the same, I know the Switch has better and more stable framerate but that isn't enough for me to fork over and extra 300 bucks for.

IMO, the online paid service hurts Pokemon the most, Pokemon has recently focused most of its efforts on its online play, if Pokemon does hit the switch, I don't expect much of an online community as not only do you have to pay for the game, there is the online pay wall combined with the Pokemon Bank pay wall to transfer Pokemon over. I hope Game Freak does pull better single player efforts if Pokemon comes out on the switch overwise, it's gonna run dry.

Pre-ordered this morning, quite liked the presentation but still a lot of question marks and odd decisions (I.E: paid online).

That being said, personally I'm shocked at how everyone seems to forget at every console launch the selection is paltry. PS4 was poor, Xbox One was poor and 3DS was tragic.

Conference was to show off the actual hardware and also highlight some games. I can understand a lot of people's worries but I'm impressed enough to give it a whack.

You are right Brend but the problem Nintendo is facing is that..
  • they enter the currentgen very late
  • their device is underwelming performance wise
  • their device is expensive compared to Microsoft and Sony
  • their line-up is very thin
  • have to fight against great libraries on other consoles
  • it is harder to convince a family to buy and expensive console for their kids
  • most youngsters have phones and play games on a mobile platform
  • Image could be to "childish" for current young generation while adults think of Nintendo with nostalgia.
As said I find their device intruiging and fresh but I am afraid it will be shortlived.

All valid points... We'll have to see how it pans out!

I paid £230 for a 3DS at launch so the price isn't too much of a scare but more than I expected for sure.

I've said it with the Wii U and I'll say it with the Switch... I will buy it, no questions, if they make a proper Metroid game again. And I never bought a Wii U. In fact, I think I'll plug in my Wii after work and play some Metroid Prime Trilogy. Mmmmm.

I'll probably still get the Switch anyways, the Zelda game looks fantastic. I do hope they pull the ole Nintendo and resell most of their older games (other than NES, SNES, which look to be confirmed) like the GBA and so forth. I'd be buying the Switch for nostalgia mostly.

The Wii U came out in 2012 so it is a last gen system like the PS3 and X360 or am I mixing things up?

The Wii is a last gen system, as it came out at around the same time as the Xbox 360 and PS3.

The Wii U is still a current gen system, it just happened to come out about a year before the competition did.

Games confirmed in the Treehouse stream:

Sonic Mania
PuyoPuyo Tetris.
Fast RMX
Disgaea 5 Complete
Snipperclips
Skylanders: Imaginators

Pre-orders are selling out. Did Wii U pre-orders sell out? :P

I've even heard that Amazon started cancelling some preorders.... Luckily mine stuck.

I think it will help them get more market share if they also offer a cheaper unswitched option with Pro controller. Box could be really small and portable, a bit like the Shield TV / PlayStation TV and could also be priced lower than the PS4 and Xbox One.

My copy of Disgaea 5 says 'Only on PlayStation'...
Similar to Romance 13, I don't think that there was any exclusivity deal made. Just an internal decision made by the publisher to keep it on one platform.

I agree almost all consoles have really poor launch title line up but this seems way over the top.

Edit: @Lain of course pre-orders will sell out, it is a new console :P (plus don't Nintendo usually limit shipping to make it sound like they're selling more than they do? )

I really really hope this thing sells gangbusters, heck hope it sells as much as the Wii but I really can't see it happening.

3DS was a lot worse than this in my opinion.

I agree. The 3DS launch was atrocious; not many games at launch, and an extortionate price (£230?) was a recipe for disaster.

I'm happy that Nintendo managed to switch* it up and turn it into a success.

* = pun totally intended

$300, Paid online service, lack of third party games shown, and just a bland presentation. The new Mario and Zelda looked cool, but Arms..what is really appealing about this console? The portable aspect?

FFS Nintendo! :banghead:

I'm pretty sure that's not an entirely exhaustive list of release titles. I think people are reading WAY too much into the presentation. They showed us some games, ones they picked and never said we're ALL the games at launch. Everyone needs to relax, and, if you don't like it yet, just wait and see what the actual launch and/or games lineup will be like. Then make your decision. Judging something based on one presentation certainly won't give the whole story
