Nintendo Switch

Poor specs for a new machine so obviously trying to keep the price down. I think this is make or break for nintendo, if it flops like the wii u then i cant see them making anymore consoles and going the way of sega by doing games only, or perhaps just handheld or mobile gaming. I hope they have some big titles for launch !

I'm not positive, because of different reports, but I think Nintendo is in a better spot financially than Sony or MS. I think they'll be fine either way. But I agree, they need some big launch titles. I think it's already been mentioned, but with WiiU selling so poorly there is a library of games waiting to be redone. WiiU did have a few great games and a lot are ones people have never played....since so few owned the console.

As for the poor specs, I'm waiting to reserve judgement until we get the facts. But I can't see how they'd make it as good as PS4 AND portable AND a good price. If the power is somewhere in the neighbourhood of PS4/Xbox One, it will be pretty remarkable, in my opinion.

that price point is incredibly hard to argue, but as I tried to search Best Buy USA, I can't find neither the product name or the SKU. They must have brought it down.
I don't think it was ever publicly visible, just visible to Best Buy employees.

It's definitely attainable, particularly if we find out for sure 2 months before launch. Thursday night/Friday morning will be very interesting

In docked mode it will probably be comparable to a gtx470 or even gtx 570-580 if it has 3xx shaders(cuda cores). Been playing on a gtx470 for like 1-2months this year and it was quite OK.
And if you think about that Nintendo has its own graphical style, ie lighter on the hardware compared to a normal pc game then this is powerful enough.

I'm wondering if over in the UK the price will fall within 3 potential price-points:

  • £250 (Obvious price carry-over
  • £220 (Happy median)
  • ...or £200 (closest to actual conversion)

If it falls at any of those prices it's still a huge potential win for Nintendo though, that's an attainable price. Seen a lot of insiders talking about how important it will be to pre-order the console too, so if you really want one...be on your guard this Thursday morning.

@Pillo-san - That's what my thoughts have been too. Plus, if it's using PC-like architecture ports will be easily done surely if it's just utilizing Nvidia tech. No weird processors or anything like that, you'd imagine it would be a straightforward process to get titles like Skyrim onto the console if there's a PC version available too.

Switch Bingo is apparently a thing, so feel free to make a bingo card if you're interested. Here's mine:

Haha @Lain I want them all! Well, except I personally don't care about Pokemon, Bethesda games or Mother 3.

I was listening to Nintendo Fuse podcast today, and they were quoting an article from a newly released magazine. It was a big name I think - maybe PC Gamer? I forget exactly, but they said Switch has the Pascal processor. Again, this is all over my head, but I know that's the better one over Maxwell(I think that's what it's called). And, not sure if the magazine is known to exaggerate or not. Just thought I'd share

The problem is that Nintendo refuses to release specs of their consoles. All we have to go on at this moment is that it is a custom made Tegra chip. I personally think it is Pascal under the hood for all sort of different reasons, but we won't officially know for years.

I think we'll know much sooner than that, but yeah Nintendo definitely won't be releasing specs themselves.

I haven't been swayed one way or the other on whether the chip will be Maxwell or Pascal, but I'm completely fine with the worst-case scenario of it being a vanilla X1.

Yeah... I'm gonna be constantly refreshing the Switch listing on Amazon to make sure I get my preorder in ASAP.

Edit: If you guys are unfamiliar with Easy Allies, you should check out their betting specials... they just posted one for the upcoming Switch event. A lot more fun than typical "predictions" videos because the bets are usually on silly stuff, plus there's an ongoing WWE-caliber gag "plot" that's pretty amusing.

I'll be setting my alarm for 3:45AM so I can get a pre-order in if they go up imminently after the event.

I don't have a Bingo card but I do have the 10 elements I predict to feature in the stream:

-March 17th Release Date
-Zelda at launch
-£220 UK Price with pack-in Mario Kart 8 Switch
-Blazblue Centralfiction at launch
-Mario 3D game in June-July
-Skyrim and NBA available at launch
-Splatoon Switch between May-August
-Toybox Turbos port from Codemasters coming this year
-New game announcement from Platinum
-Sonic Mania announced for Switch.

I'm so hyped.

I'm a bit confused, as you say the US price carry-over would be the usual thing to happen but why then did GameSeek have it at £198, with a pre-order guarantee? That's quite a difference. (I see they've stopped taking orders now; I'll be kicking myself if that was the only chance to get it under 200 for a long time. :ouch:)

Games I'm expecting on the Switch (that might not be confirmed at the event and just theories).

- New 3D Mario
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Pokemon Stars or Eclipse
- Pokemon Diamond/Pearl remake (don't expect this to be a thing until 2018 or 2019)
- 2K, Bethesta and Ubisoft support (I would love the next WWE 2K game to be on the switch.
- Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 remaster

Things I want that I don't think will happen.
- A circuit car racing game.

It's a mystery really, they could easily revoke the price and say it was a placeholder which is most likely if it doesn't end up that price. :(

I'll settle for F-Zero or 1080, neither of which would ever happen

A few more game predictions (some are a bit more of a stretch than others)...

Shin Megami Tensei V
Soul Calibur 6 and/or Dead or Alive 6
Atelier Sophie
Pokemon Snap 2
System Shock
Metal Gear Solid V

Yes and no. The photo feature in S/M seemed very barebones and tacked-on... definitely not a Pokemon Snap substitute.

True but I don't think they'd implement the photo feature in the first place if they were going to make another Snap and if there is a third Pokemon version on the switch, I think the photo feature will return.

True. FWIW, I think that Pokemon Snap 2 is by far the least likely prediction I made there. I just threw it in for giggles, because I was thinking about putting Pokemon Conquest 2 on there for fun but realized that'd mean I'd have 3 Koei Tecmo games listed. Plus Conquest 2 is just as unlikely as Snap 2. :P
