Nintendo Switch

I'm pretty sure there will be no VR. Personally, I couldn't care less about it, but I know a lot who do. I'm so excited about this console. I'm hoping they make Mario sports superstars into a Switch release as well as 3DS. Anyway, very excited. Can't wait until January when we find out a lot more!

As expected, the Switch ain't gonna set the world on fire with specs http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2016-nintendo-switch-spec-analysis

199$ at launch?
If those specs are correct (big if, rumors have been right so far but there's also been some incorrect ones) then I guess we're going to get more 3rd party games in line with the 3DS rather than PS4 and Xbox One.

I'm sure Nintendo also hinted that they don't see the Switch as Wii U's successor - probably nonsense but interesting none the less.

That being said, we don't know for sure. Developers like Codemasters were spotted on the first 'support' photo they posted showing which devs are on-board. If it's running a PC like architecture - where would the issue be in porting to the Switch?

I'm pulling for $250/£250 at launch - cannot see it going lower than that.

@Brend Hopefully 3rd party devs show it some love, they showed Skyrim but doubt Bethesda would have this game running in an acceptable way.

250$ is fine-ish but any higher and it's a shot in the foot, PS4 slims can be had for 270 now.

To be perfectly honest, Bethesda have never had any of their main RPG games running in a respective way on console so no change there.

I played Skyrim on PS3 at about 23fps with drops. I just expect it from them now. That's why seeing Skyrim on it meant nothing to me, Bethesda specialize in poorly optimized games that 'chug' along.

I am not going to claim to have a clue what the specs mean, so I'm out of that conversation @Brend @sems4arsenal. What makes a console good or even great are the games. If the Switch is a little more powerful than the WiiU, there is no reason it can't be a huge success. Nintendo seems to finally be doing the marketing right. More people (many more IMO) are hyped about this than the WiiU. That equals more people buying it. More people buying it would most likely mean more 3rd party games. More games should equal more good games, which would make this console successful. Power is definitely important, but there are so many other factors. I have hope for this machine though

All those specs mean is that the Switch might not get some AAA multiplatform titles... and if you've already got a PS4, XB1 or PC you don't need those games to also come to the Switch.

The Switch will have plenty of fantastic software, and would arguably make the best secondary system since the others all share a lot of the aforementioned multiplatform games... there's little reason to own both a PS4 and an XB1, and almost no reason to own both an XB1 and a gaming PC. Any one of those plus a Switch makes a lot more sense.

These specs are confusing.

It was leaked that Dark Souls 3 could be run on it, and the developers of said game were impressed with the performance; yet these specs would give the impression that it'd have an incredibly difficult time running it well.

Add that to Bethesda being impressed with the Switch and Skyrim SE being shown on the reveal trailer?

Something must be off here...

From Software are just as blasé as Bethesda when it comes to what they deem as running respectively. That being said, we don't have the full spec list and further they aren't confirmed. What we know right now is what chip is inside the console, that's it. No information on how efficient it's running, if the Switch has some smart optimization tech.

The specs revealed could be correct; they basically just mean nothing as it stands. Classic NeoGAF starting a 🤬 storm because their bloated expectations wanted a PS4 Pro on the go seemingly.

What I fear the most is that people will definitely end up having high expectations just because FromSoft announced it could run Dark Souls 3. That said, I am going to be hyped if FromSoft would release an Armored Core game on the Switch.

People seriously need to stop heightening their expectations and over-hyping stuff. It's what is killing the industry.

People like to hype expectations because a worrying number of people in general and in the computer game scene in particular like nothing more than to rubbish the 'next thing'. It's the cancer of the online world. People seem to get great pleasure out of it or use it to defend their own choices. I don't expect it to be any different with the Switch. In fact I expect it be worse than normal because of all the Sony & MS fanboys/girls. They are normally at each other's throats but they will put aside their differences to stick the boot into Nintendo.

I just read an article saying the Switch will be the easiest to develop for. It was on Traveller's Times(I think that was what it was called). Apologies if this has already been talked about on this thread but, if that's the case, that is very good news.

I was just looking around for Switch news but there's not a lot out there really. Tons of rumours though. One article gushing about its power and the next bashing it for being so low powered. Can't wait til the big reveal!

Only a couple of weeks until we know more and then it'll only be a couple of months until release! Very excited.

I am not going to let specifications tell me whether or not the Switch is going to be great. You can have a system with the best specs but still fall short in a number of important areas. It's like when I've seen YouTube videos of all kinds of device reviews. Some are benchmark beasts, but I don't want those alone to tell me how good (or bad) a device is. All that's important here is how well the Switch is utilized. So what if it will fall short against the PlayStation 4 and the XBOX One hardware wise? As long as the Switch can deliver solid performance for what it musters, that's all that matters.

Maybe we'll learn more about this system in the coming weeks.

I'm buying the Switch regardless. It has the potential to be great, and if people buy it, devs will support it.

If nobody else buys it and it winds up being another Vita, so be it.

Exactly how I feel @JohnBM01! One thing's for sure - this console is generating more hype than WiiU. And that's a good thing

Two things before I leave the thread for the Jan. 12 **** storm and both are from Laura Kate Dale.

1. The surprise announcement will be a port of Mother 3 for the Switch Virtual Console. That port will be released in Q2 of this year.

2. It has been "reconfirmed" that Breath of the Wild will be a launch title. OP will reflect that change.

Just read some rumors that specify the rear triggers on the Switch are analog like the GameCube controller...that would make Codemasters name on the support list make a lot more sense as it would open the door for a Formula 1 port surely?

So glad to hear about analog triggers...in my mind it was the biggest hinderance to a racing game on WiiU

Conference is going to be in Tokyo at 5.00 am CET and will be in Japanese with accompanied English translation. Think I'll be watching a recording of it as not going to get up at 4.00 am!

As someone who hasn't really played much Nintendo in the past decade, I totally didn't pay any attention to the fact that Wii & Wii U ditched analog triggers.

Pretty big deal for racing games, glad to hear they're making a return.

I was watching some videos on the arcade game "Cruis'n Blast." A lot of the YouTube commenters were wondering if it were possible for this arcade racing game to be ported to the Nintendo Switch. There's a chance this game could find its way to the Switch. We still don't know too much about the Switch to really think about what all is possible and how the Switch can fully be utilized and how games will be developed for it. My hopes are still fairly high on the fronts of development. Then too, many people tend to reference towards seeing one of those Skyrim games being played on the Switch. So anything may surely be possible with the Nintendo Switch.
