I agree with the sentiments that it's not about specs. It's never been about specs, and in the era when mobile devices can output visuals that are only marginally behind the big boxes, this rings particularly true.
But last night I had an interesting revelation:
Okay, so Nintendo's partnered with NVIDIA for this thing. But I believe there could be more to this deal than simply NVIDIA supplying Ninty with chips. For all intents and purposes, the Switch is the spiritual successor to NVIDIA's Shield product line-up. NVIDIA and Nintendo are both in a tight spot in this particular market and need to deliver an excellent and affordable product... So I think NVIDIA might be cutting Nintendo a great deal with these chips, on one condition:
GeForce Now support. NVIDIA's $8 monthly game streaming service could very well be available on this thing. So long as you've got a fast internet connection and don't mind a subscription service, this thing will be able to stream high-end PC games from NVIDIA's servers.... somewhat negating one of the Switch's negatives in the process. Which in the future could mean 4K support, too.
And if it supports that, it will probably support NVIDIA GameStream as well, allowing users who also happen to have a beefy PC to stream to their Switch and play in the living room, bathroom, etc. Imagine being able to stream Forza Horizon 3, Civ VI, and all other manner of things to this device, which would normally not be playable on it in a million years.
