OK. Surprisingly enough I HAVE pointed out something that escaped some people's notice.

Personally, I would prefer all stock cars in TT mode. One lap, one time. The 2 laps in Race mode isn't very practical on the Ring. It would be nice if they fixed the "early" start in the TT mode, however.

I prefer stock cars because the physics are already easy enough in Shift, adding grip, brakes, aero etc. just makes the handling that much less challenging. I'm also suspicious that the game has the car ratings accurate between the different models, which may take some time to figure out, at which point everybody may wind up driving the same car (eg. GTR/GT5P?!), which will be kind of boring.

So: my vote goes for TT/stock cars.

Scratch that:

I just realized that the best set-up is Race mode, one lap, as it gives you a standing start.

I find 2 lap race mode preferable. One lap to get the feel of the car, the second to lay down a better time. Invariably I'm 5 sec quicker (give or take) on lap 2, and only maybe a second of that is from the 'flying' start of the lap as opposed to standing start.

I understand that lap times tend to get faster. But I think forcing you to put it all together in one lap from a standing start represents more of a challenge - makes it harder to lap & lap & lap in pursuit of the perfect time. Of course, the ultimate challenge will always be Enthusia, with its very slippery RWD cars & those @#%&! black flags!

6.00 class mazda mx5 ; 7.31.971 ;GTRP_mexz , (quickrace)
...4 sec faster than rudi...sth MUST be wrong.??
i think i was lucky with the setup :D
nordschleife = heaven

This is a completely pointless thread if everyone is going post times with different cars with different tuning/upgrades! There's going to be nothing worth comparing! :dopey:

Not pointless, people are trying to get the fastest times in each class, as in any online race, car choice and tuning are important and will be different to suit different driving styles. I will be streamlining the board in tonights update however and will only display top 15 times in each class. As I've said before, how people set their times is, again, personal choice, however given that one way is a lot quicker, you'd be a bit silly not to go for it!

Stock cars are slightly different, however, and will be removed from this thread tonight to go into a new 'stock car ring challenge' thread which will be far more specific on rules to produce a completely level playing field.

Some might consider it a greater challenge to keep it all together for two (or more) laps of the 'ring.! Isn't that what we are trying to achieive anyway... a perfect laptime in any given car.?
And besides, very few laptimes are from a standing start, generally only on point to point racing, hillclimbs rally etc. Any times you see in real life from the 'ring will undoubtedly be from a flying lap, so it only makes sense to follow suit.

Heres my top few times in unrestricted class
Maserati MC12 6'34.970"
Aston Martin DBR9 6'35.470"
Zonda R 6'39.920"

Great time Seven8V... would you be prepared to share your settings for the Zonda?

Cheers,
Chris

i know what you mean...i tried to get a good time but all i could do was a 6.29 with
the zonda. and after 10 laps i'm completely done. now i'm driving 6.00 cars for rehab
your setup would be useful to get my motivation back:sly:

Well Rudi's gonna run the Ring for 40 hours until he gets it "right"! ;)

I'm a bit scared of the "obsessive repetition" aspect - it drains the fun out IMO. Actually I'd be all for a 2 lap total time from a standing start. That would really force the concentration level up.

I prefer driving stock because it's going to take a long time to figure out the fastest car/set-up, & at the end it may turn out (as in GT5P) that one car dominates each class, & that car may not be the most interesting car to drive (I'm lookin at you GT-R) :indiff:

some hugely quick times there - excellent driving.
How much time can be gained from setups ? I've not touched the setups at all, just running the cars as they are delivered, maybe that is why I'm 25s too slow. I'd never expect to be quickest.... but 25 seconds over a 6 minute lap is soooo far off the pace !!!

non stop ???? geez. I did 20 laps in a session just to get my '50' level... that was draining enough, well over 2 hours...

I think it can make quite a difference. I was driving my cars 'as is' but after trying some of Terronium's tunes, I can see the benefit of setting up the car coreectly. The only problem is I suck at doing that so its nice to see a couple of garages appear and I hope more people will post their setups, maybe even in this thread (hint hint!)

The stock challenge with no tuning is coming today!

The setup is very Important to take fast times! Its stressful to find the right setup ;)

Ingame Outgame Ingame Outgame ...

I hope i beat the 6:10 min Today ;)

I run 40 hours??

I played shift maybe all together 20 hours.

Just kidding! I remember you saying you had spent something like 30 hours on a GT5P Eiger TT in the Clio a year or so ago. Got you a place in the top 3 or 4 I believe. I spent about 4 or 5 hours on that TT & was trying to keep my time in the top 40 or 50, but I gave up after reading that!

I'm curious to see how you & some of the other fastest GT5P drivers get on in these Shift TTs, & if, in fact, the same nuances exist in Shift's physics to reward increased skill & experience.

I have a little update... :scared:

Don't know if anybody has commented on this yet, but the Karussell seems totally wrong in Shift (based on my experience in other games & watching RL videos). There seems to be no way to drive it to actually take advantage of the banking - you always end up sliding off because it's not "deep" enough.

Yeah, I think that too but we may be wrong. I tried both (banking and the flat section) and when I took the banking I was slower.

Yes it does feel wrong. I think I found the quickest way through was to go in through the top and late apex down on the banking.
It took probably 70 laps for me to 'master' that corner, I had all the others, but could never crack that one. I still don't know what it took to 'master', certainly not my normal line anyway.!

WrecklessAbandon - 8:11.610 - Audi S3 - 5.99

Slow as turtle, but handles real nice. It's almost like driving a better game :)
