JCE3000GT, it sounds to me like you may be feeling the effects of natural aspiration vs turbocharging...and in any case, I've always been of the opinion that AWD sportscars are beasts anyway. :P Especially Lambo's.

I'm sorry but the RX8 is rubbish. I hate that car, bring back the RX7 Touring! The slower car thing is funny really when you think about it, drive a fast car for an entire day then go back to your "peppy" econobox and you'll be quite depressed. That's what happend to me when I took a Mustang GT on a dealer trade last month--then got back in my Focus and felt demasculated.

A similar thing happened to me when I test-drove an E46 325i once...after returning to my own car, I was blown away by how loose and soft all of the inputs seemed, and how utterly 80's my interior was.

Excellent work, live4speed and mysterious helper! Now I know where to look for this info (much easier to read than Nurburgring.de, and it includes more roadcars, too). :)

@Viper discussion: The Viper is by no means a terrible handler, but compared to its peers it's quite sub-par.

this has got to be untrue. I have seen many comparisons of the new Viper and Corvette ZO6, and while the Z06 always wins, with it being the faster of the two, the Viper handles equally on the skidpad and through the slalom. And with that said, I'd blame a 1 sec lap time difference on the extra quickness of the lighter Z06. Although I'm not a huge fan of the Viper, people don't give it nearly enough credit in handling, as it has always, since it's birth, posted good/great numbers and run with the best of them. which makes me also ask, was this driver at the ring a skilled driver?

When Clarkson drove the Viper he said it has massive amounts of grip. BUT, if you push it a little bit too far, it kills you!

Exactley, he was putting it across that as long as you keep the power balanced just right your fine, over do it even slightly and suddenly that grips all gone and it kills you.

Cheers guys.

Just added...
8:50 - Mercedes Benz E55 AMG - 2000
If your planning to make more updates, as the list gets longer i think it would be a good idea to highlight the newly added cars in a different colour.

Just a thought ;)

Hmm, I can understand it getting hard to find cars as it grows. I was thinking of splitting it up into different colourd sections by time, so sub 7 mins to 7'29 are one colour, 7'30 - 7'59 another ect. I'm open to suggestions about making the list better and easier to read, and highlighting the new entires or just making them bold for a few days isn't a bad idea.

It wasn't a hot lap, it's just the only recorded lap of it thats got out. It was done while they were testing the Veyron there and tweaking the last bit's of the car, theres a video of it somewhere and they arn't pushing the car that hard. I'd expect it to easilly do around a 7'30 in a hot lap or in the 7'20's. I know I said it probably wouldn't before, but after seeing the way it was driven in the 7'40 lap I've changed my mind.

Rather makes it live up to the name "Viper", huh? :)

Tell it to this guy (language warning: One vocalisation of a scatological exclamation)...

Ive already gotten into trouble over this repost , but that Viper does'nt lock it's brakes , takes the edge full length sideways , all very neatly in one pan from a stationary camera ! . The 'cliff' is alluded , it is in fact a slope that the camera does'nt spoil by taking a peek of . This is stunt , staged & , in fact , good use of a Viper .

I think he knew that, he posted it here as a joke.

Great database of times live4speed 👍

I came across an article the other day regarding the Radicals lap time of 6'55...

Donkervoort have reclaimed the outright production car lap record with a time of 7'14.890...

The article (Evo magazine issue 87) states that Donkervoort have said in a press release that for a car to be considered a "Production" variant it must have passed Germanys TUV tests....an oversight by Radical perhaps but i doubt it somehow?

Will be interesting to see how this pans out though!

Keep up the good work

regards

Dave

Yeah, Radical got the lap record, then Donkervoort beat it with the 7'14 time, but then Radical used a new car and did a lap in 6'55 pretty recently.

I find it consoling that my favourite hatchback equalled the time of a Porsche 911 :)

It's a coupe as well, but it is a 3 door hatch back. It'll never be classed as a hot hatch though because it's a proper sportscar, same goes for the T350, they're hatchbacks but coupes/targa tops as well.

....its the 6'55 lap that Donkervoort are pointing too as not being strictly correct!!

Same goes for the Corvette and Viper SRT-10 Coupe; both cars have a hatchback-type trunk ("boot" for you in the Kingdom).

I was looking for some of the stuff about the Nordshelife times, and I have to say that the Z06 times were rather impressive for being a pre-production car on regular street tires (unlike the Carrera GT).

Has there been a qualification for the Ariel Atom yet? The Noble M12 GTO?
... Just asking...

I can't find any Ariel or Noble times anywhere, a lot of low volume British sportscars never get taken to the ring, all the testing is done here in the UK usually at tracks like Silverstone and Brands, the best chance of seeing any of thoes at the ring is when private owners take them, but as show in the McLaren F1 vid, they more than likely won't push their cars hard let alone to their limits.

I'm going to update the list soon, I've got a couple of new times to add but I'm waiting to check their sources first just to make sure they are proper times.

Private owners, unless organised officially can never provide fastest lap times for the simple reason that on public days no one can do a complete lap. The car park/essembally area where the toll-booths are are situated mid-way down the long straight. You start the lap there and are slowed down and filtered off the track a couple of hundred yards further back than where you joined the track - flying laps, even on a quiet track are not permitted.
