North Korea, Sanctions, and Kim Jong-un

Is it me or North Korean Government seems to be the most racist person of the world much more than Hitler? seriously, ban foreigners because of Ebola? So it means every foreigners have Ebola?

So let people in and they end up infecting and killing thousands but it is OK for one person to kill 1000 as long as they are not discriminated against?

Counties quarantine animals to make sure they don't introduce illnesses

And the same is not done for humans during a world wide outbreak.

North Korea just does what no one else wants to do.

Effectively quarantine their country from a deadly outbreak.

"Just last week the regime insisted Mr Kim could drive by the time he was three years old, while his late father Kim Jong-Il said he had scored an incredible 11 holes-in-one the first time he ever played golf."

The Propaganda is strong with this one.
I also heard that he can play guitar while in stillborn.

Hes never lie, I 110% believe him.

He also "Invented" the hamburger
I guess that means he invented food as well since food has never been seen by the people of north korea.

I had a hard time reading the whole piece but stuff like this...

And a tour guide pointing out a replicated French Arch.
I read the article yesterday in a paper copy that I'd had for a couple of days without getting round to reading. I'd enjoyed reading it but wasn't sure how best to describe it, hence the rubbishness of just sticking the link there on its own.

Apparently Kim Jong-Il scored a perfect 300 in his first ever attempt at 10 pin bowling too.

Seems like the mob boss who gets a hole in one every time he plays putt-putt.

Looks like he's having a decent day out! :sly:

What a tub of lard. He's even smoking on deck in that first picture!

With a successful submarine launch of a ballistic missile, North Korea enters a new stage of credibility and danger. The west coast of the US comes under increased threat. Our policy planners will have to take that into account. What to do about it? Encouraging the Saudis to develop nukes seems to be at the top of the list.

Worst of all is that they let people starve while spending all of these to feed their delusion.

Eh, Darwinian theory. As time cone, there will be less North Koreans until they extinct.

I'm most impressed by how little splash there is and by how shiny and reflective the water is from that Photoshopping Trident launch there.

I'm impressed that they managed to launch their Photoshopping Trident Rocket from such a small submarine, shown in this official unveiling :

Do the GTP intelligentsia seriously believe the NK SLBM test is a photoshopped hoax?

South Korea's initial assessment after the test -- which was believed to have taken place Friday -- was that the North is still in the "early phase" of development.

However a defence official speaking on condition of anonymity later said the North could have a fully functioning submarine armed with ballistic missiles in "two to three years."

"And field deployment could take place within four or five years," the official said.

Daniel Pinkston, the Korea analyst at the International Crisis Group and a non-proliferation expert, said that he doubt the launch reported Saturday was actually from a submarine.

"I think they probably launched it from some kind of submerged platform, possibly towed by a submarine. I think it would be too risky to do the first launch from a submarine," he said. North Korea has a limited fleet of aging subs.

"While the launch was a significant step for North Korea, Pinkston said he did not think the system was operational yet. "That will still take time and more flight-tests. Now we can watch the responses. I don't see [North] Korea's neighbors sitting around and not responding," he said.

South Korea and the United States have been concerned that North Korea was developing a ballistic missile that could be launched underwater. They are also concerned that North Korea might be making progress on miniaturizing a nuclear weapon so that it could be attached to a missile, although there has been no evidence that it has mastered this difficult step.

Pyongyang has previously said that it has tested a missile launcher from the shore in Sinpo, on North Korea’s east coast, and in February said that it had from the test of a canister-mounted anti-ship cruise missile from a patrol vessel.

Naval-Technology.com, a defense analysis Web site, reported this week that North Korea had conducted a test from an underwater test platform near Sinpo, quoting U.S. defense officials as saying that the development was part of North Korea’s efforts to expand the country’s nuclear-weapons capacity.

“The submarine can get the platform to launch the missile within range of the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii,” it quoted Bruce Bechtol, a former Defence Intelligence Agency official, as saying. “Thus, once operational, this immediately brings key nodes in the United States within range of what would likely be a nuclear armed missile.”

Nope. I just think that it's considerably more likely that it is one than it is a genuine display of any kind of weapons or defence technology.

The image showing Kim within what looks like a quarter mile of a ballistic missile test has all the hallmarks of a composite - even if it's just the presence of Kim himself in the image, though the amount of splash and the bizarrely reflective choppy waters are also highly suspect.

Would you believe the missile was released from a canister just under the surface, popped up, and went only a few meters? Surely that would satisfy your requirement that no genuine weapon or defense technology be displayed?

Would you believe
I try not to.

It would also be more likely that Kim was willing to be within 440yd of that - though it neither explains why the choppy water is reflecting considerably more light than should even reach it from the rocket exhaust at that range (more consistent with a sunrise, in fact) or the later image of mountaintop-lodge Kim gazing admirably at a missile of different proportions cresting the cloud layer.

That was my first thought - isn't he standing a tad close, given that he is the Supreme Leader and all? Certainly, for a 'real' test, it strikes me as extremely unlikely that this would be the case.
