Thanks for the comments guys, we were really dissapointed in having you two drop out. I'd like to send out a HUGE thank you to all the teams getting together during this practice race to work out the bugs. Rest assured that we respect all participants issues and will work to get it tight in time for the event.

Among things we will implement:

Next practice will make sure to server hop in order to get all teams in.

A dedicated qualifying session. (we didn't really want a qualifying session for the practice races because we don't care who wins....we just want everyone to realize what they need to have in terms of control and patience.)

---------------------------------

We are heading in the right direction and I hope teams will have learnt alot from running together. It's useless to all cram into the esses like crazy. We have one team in particular we will warn that caused most of the problems on the track. If nothing is done, they will be banned.

Thanks for your hard work and your positive comments. We'll build on that.

Dedicated Q session is a winner Kurt 👍

Patience is indeed the key, irresponsible passing causes big problems & some drivers need to understand that!

What happened to the remaining drivers? I notice only 6 finished?

Yes, you are right! We are realising more and more that we face challenges in racing culture. The image most have of autoracing is crazy people driving flat out. The truth is that every move is calculated and it's more strategy and consistency than it is recklessness.

Now it was very interesting to note the battle between Shifted Racing Online and Team Enduro. SRO decided to run slower to save tires and made 2 pit stops. SRO's fastest lap was 9'11.xxx. 3 other teams ran 9'07.xxx as their fastest lap, yet were harder on tires. The faster you try to go, the more you wear the tires.

What gave SRO their advantage was driving their Racing Mediums at an intermediate pace to keep a lead, but not wear too much. TE unfourtunately had to pit after 3 laps, I believe it was, where SRO managed to go 4 laps.
Once SRO pulled out of pits just in front of TE, they were on fresh tires, but TE already had a lap into their tires.
It was then a matter of not overdoing the driving to make sure SRO got 5 laps out of the new tires, then 5 laps out of the last set.
SRO was ready to let TE pass, knowing that their pace would be quicker. However TE made the wise choice of staying behind to save tires because SRO had the upper hand. It was 'too little-too late' as TE found themselves overworn and understeered into a sand trap.

Something that is worth mentioning is TE anounced all their drivers were present. This indicates that they were most likely multiple drivers. Had SRO had one of their junior drivers participate, things could have easily gone the other way...

Food for thought. Hoping other teams will reflect on what endurance racing is all about, for the sake of a tight competition. That being said, there are other teams that haven't had a chance to shine.......yet. It will happen. :)

Sorry for being so annoying but I didn't get a reply, so here goes again: What is the chance of reserve teams making it? At least, it would be cool to participate on a practice session if possible. Let me know.

Hey Kurt, just a suggestion, can we turn off visual damage when we race so our cars don't look all mangled up even though some of us may not have actually hit anything..I saw our car in some other person's replay and it looked completely wrecked but in actuality we hadn't hit anything...anyways I think it just be better to look at for spectators...

I think that would help relieve server strain too? I read that recently so it might be worth looking in to 👍

Also for everyone's info my team has lost a member and gained a member! We say a sad goodbye to Brad as he has to complete a spray painting course on the race weekend.

Filling Brads spot is a good mate of mine, ex work colleague and GT5 nut, Luke. Luke has been absent from GT5 due to work for a while but is now fervently training for his shot at glory!!!!

So are we doing the race in free run? I ask because if we do it in race mode the risk of disconnection is there and would be disastrous for people that drop out, also if it's run in race mode we wouldn't be able to run more than 12 cars because of the sever network problems that arise, citation here:

So if we do the race in free, people can drop in and out if need be, we can race the full 15 teams and the performance would be a lot more consistent and smooth over all.

And if you're worried about the start, I never imagined this race to be started from a standing, so a nice rolling start on the back straight would be advisable.

Just want to get these very important details clarified asap.

The practice session this morning was good... for Kurt's team & I.

Not a single other team was present, did everyone else know it was on?

We had 100% track wetness!

Another good reason to add my team to the race! :sly: It's killing me not being able to race!

We would love to add you to the grid, but all spots are complete at the moment. We just replaced team #6 - Flying Slugs with the new spot holder: Ring Bandits.

Have a look at the website for the team listing: http://wurks.ca/nurburgring-24hr-online-race/teams-2

As for you getting a spot NEPALII, I believe your team is too far down the list to have a chance in that happening this year. Sit tight for next year. We'll begin driver qualifications for 2013 sometime after the 2012 event. So you'll have as much chance as the next guy ;)

Yes we've moved to turn off Visual Damage. Thanks!

That's cool, no problem. Thanks for the reply, appreciate it. Looking forward for next year! 👍

good research! we should try this out to see if it runs smoother and all..are teh admins still able to govern everything during free run? they won't be able to capture any of the replays i don't think

Yeah the only two drawbacks to running in free run is that there's no replay (everything's going to be captured on my end anyway) and no drafting.

The drafting thing's sort of welcomed in my eyes since when you're in the slip of a car in front of you your front end grip always seems to take a hit so it's much harder to stay consistent. It'll take longer to make a pass, but hey we've got a whole day to do it :)

All Teams - don't forget the practice session today. Details on the website under Team Access.

Is there any way we can make these prac sessions mandatory? Given the time and dedication put in by some teams I think it's pretty ordinary that, with less than a month til race day, we had half a dozen teams at practice today. Surely Kurt & the crew cannot be expected to iron out issues when half the field is missing?

I know that folks are practicing on their own too but it's not just about practice it's about discovering issues and applying a solution but that can't happen if most are absent.

Last 3 practice sessions: 11 teams then 2 teams (1 being Kurt & me) and today half a dozen.

With all due respect: lift your game guys & get to these sessions so Kurt can try and ensure a smooth race that starts on time 👍

This is in part why, next year there will be qualification rounds. We want people that will be really committed to making the event better. However, we still understand that is not possible for every team this year to attend most of the practice.

i was stuck at a ski resort because my friend thought he lost his keys hahah...this week i'm up in tremblant, i'll try to get my brother to join this week's session...sorry about that

G'day, I don't know if I'm jumping the gun early, but I added the wurks_dot_ca account last night before I went to bed (Australia) in preperation for this mornings practice session and the request is still pending. It's getting awefully close to the scheduled start time and I don't want to be missing out... Sorry if I'm just being impatient ;)

I'm a new addition to HP's Green Hell Heathens team.

Sorry all spot taken, but keep you interest, qualification round subscriptions for 2013 event will take place shorter after the race.

You could mirror the real world enduros. LeMans of course, Spa has one (I think) Daytona 24hr held on the Daytona road track.

I personally plan to do this. I would love to host a Rolex 24 for 2012 just because I love that race and timing was bad.

You guys will love the new look for the btw.

One week left guys.
Teams will take to the track at 10am EST for 24 hrs.
We'll have hourly updates and live position & lap times coverage. Some on GTP, and some at wurks.ca
Stay tuned for the fianl post so all of you know where to get in on the action!!
