Nurburgring Challenge Version 2 *POST YOUR TIMES*(N2, S2 and R3 Tires)

I'm of the opinion that maybe about 10% of the drivers (maybe even less) drive with driving aids on. More to the point, anyone who knows a bit about cars knows that driving aids will definitely slow you down.

I also thought about that with the driving aids, but then it should be in a "Nurburgring Challenge Version 3" since I don't know if I had driving aids or not on any of my times

Yeh Yeh Diego, I can see your point but it does help to get faster lap times if say you were driving a car with 450KW+ on N2 tyres....

I just think every time should be posted without driving aids because then its all the drivers skill, not just the skill of handling and control but also they're skill with the accelerator..

To me, driving aids are giving the driver an 'advantage' in this situation over a driver who would otherwise drive without them. Making the rule so that everyone goes without just evens up the playing feild and makes for more intense leaderboard results...

It would be cool to have which time used aids and which didn't, but it would take a lot of work.
Plus I sure alot of people don't remember if they used aids or not(like this one:)).

:D

AusBoyRacer
It could be formatted as a table using Excel similar to the way the table was used to show the used car cycle for the PAL version of GT4

I would put in Excel, but I don't have the program or know how to use it.

Mistral
A friend of mine just done this :

See his name in the vid. I have to say it's quite a nice lap he's done there. I myself ran almost all Board Challenge and this one is a clean lap.
Congrats to him!

That's a good video:tup:. I think I will put it on the first page.

Guess we will just have to keep it as is then, in that case i will work on my Cadillac Cien time because the time i posted was without driving aids, I am pretty sure I can improve with better traction :)

Or... and this is a big OR

In the case that you remember if you used driving aids, just put after the time (TCS Activated; ASM Activaded; TCS/ASM Activated)

so it would be something like this

8'37.682 - -Diego- - Jay Leno Tank Car '04 - S2 - (TCS Activated)
and keep it in the list of those tyres, among the rest

Thoughts, suggestions, insults?

Say, the thread is growing nicely when one drops back in after a few weeks... but there's just one thing I don't like: The S2 throne in the hands of the Cadillac Cien? What?! The ugly one with the sound of a sewing machine??? ;)

There must be something that can be done! :sly: Even if we got 250 hp less than the caddie... :boggled: so the time might not stand for long...
Anyway, here we go:

6'49.186 - Mr. Apex - Amuse S2000 GT1 '04 - S2

System: PAL
Device: DFP
All aids: Off, of course. Say no to nannying electronics! :D

P.S.: Near-miss at Adenauer Forst included (+1 sec.), a couple "whimp-out 'n' step-on-the-brakes-too-earlys" included as well (+4 sec.). So I say the Amuse GT1 is sub - 6'45 - material for sure. Who wants to prove it? :D

That would be a good idea Diego, I also thought about that but wasn't sure if it would make the leaderboard look untidy, If AngelCreator made it a rule that everyone had to state whether they used DA's or not, I would be completely behind it, because driving aids do have a big effect on the final result.
I'm all for it.
What does everyone else think?
IDEA: We could post ASM/TCS in a certain colour depending on whether they are used or not like green for off and yellow for on?

P.S. At the moment: Trying to get my Suzuki Cappuccino '95 under that 10 minute mark...
I'm only 370 thousands of a second off but I can't seem to crack it!
I'll keep at it and post the time asap :)

Edit: And I have just done it!
9'57.782 - AusBoyRacer - Suzuki Cappuccino (EA21R) '95 - ASM/TCS - N2
AngelCreator, In the code I indicated that I did not use driving aids, hence ASM/TCS being in green. If you dont like this system, feel free to delet it when you post it on the leaderboard :) thanks.
I've just raced around the 'Ring in a car with 47kw and 102.89NM of torque on N2 tyres in under 10 minutes! It was hard and frustrating but I knew the time was there and I was determined to get it.
I've saved the replay if you guys wanna check it but I'm not sure how to load it on, does it just work via USB?

well, if he does decide to put in the aid thing, then I'll state now that I didn't use TCS or ASM in either of my runs :sly:

then within every list according to tyre, it should be organized by car:dunce:

Yeah, I thought about that too. IMHO the lists are becoming a little hard to read because they are so awesomely long.
Here's a suggestion, AngelCreator: It would be possible to divide each of the Leaderboard into three or more sections/subdivisions to break things a bit down, like this, for example:

Classic Cars (1900 - 1979)
The title sums it up.

A-Class to M-Class sections contains all other road cars (way too many to mention)
Or, as we could say at the moment: All cars driven by Diego ;)

hey, the way the list is right now gives me the benefit of the doubt as to which "place" I'd occupy... if we do it like that I'd be in 6th place to say the least :guilty:

Ummm... what? "The benefit of the doubt"?

As far as I see it you're ranked 6th place on the S2 leaderboard now and would be ranked 1th to 500th place in the A-Class to M-Class section if the board were to be broken down to sections.
In other words: You would be the undoubted king/ruler/overlord of the A-Class to M-Class section of the S2 Leaderboard!!! :D Let's show some self esteem, Diego! 👍

if we do it like that
"We" do nothing, my post is just a mere suggestion. It's up to AngelCreator if he wants to adopt the idea for his thread or not. All in all it would mean extra work for him.

Hey, Mr Apex.....Good run in the Amuse on S2 tires, that's a sweet car to drive compared to the evil Cadillac and VW Nardo. I wish it did have a tad more power though.....I'm probably not going to be able to match your time, but I'll try. I really got frustrated with fighting this track on S2 tires with these crazy mad power cars.

I'll probably spend sometime in the S3 list simply because it's easier to keep the cars on the road....I'm pretty whimpy when it comes to Nurburgring.

I think I remember you from the GT3Times days....glad to see you're still racing.👍

Thanks for the kind words and greetings to Southern Carolina!
Well, my bet is you might easily regain the S2 throne, since
a) my time is only a meager 119 milliseconds faster than yours, and
b) I've got less than 2 thirds of your experience at hand!

Alas, I have to say...
even though the Amuse GT1 makes the sweetest noise, has loads of downforce and traction, and a great power-to-weight ratio...
IMHO it would be so much faster if it had a little less turn-in understeer.

Maybe I'm just not capable of dealing with understeer... but Ari Vatanen has the same problem too ;)
Here's how he describes it:

Nice insightful video....those Rally driver's must be the bravest drivers in the world. There's no way I'd want to go flying through those narrow roads with rocks and trees lining the edges flat-out in any car. Especially an understeering or 'tight' car as the southern boys call it. Crazy!

That exactly what you get with most production cars on S2's at Nurburgring.....especially if you've got weak brakes along with it. I enjoyed driving the Amuse there, even with it's little quirks. Most of the other cars were very annoying and frustrating.

I was trying to run in the WRS again this week, but the car we're running is very much an understeering FF dog. Very unpleasant.

Neither would I. :nervous: Maybe what they're doing ISN'T really all that nuts if you take in account what enormous capabilities these finns have... they certainly know what they are doing. But still... must be quite stressful inside that helmet.

My favourite prouction cars for the ring are the M3 CSL, the 2002 Turbo (when tuned to about 300 HP but with the original suspension setup... :D), the Ruf Yellowbird, the Elise 111R and all NSX (certainly when tuned for more power).

I was trying to run in the WRS again this week, but the car we're running is very much an understeering FF dog. Very unpleasant.
Sounds like torture. Someone should start a WRS series where only nicely balanced and stupidly "loose" cars are used... :D

-Diego-
I like the sound of that
Heh heh... knew you would! :)

then within every list according to tyre, it should be organized by car:dunce:

Naah I like the way it is now because it is easy to read and it is interesting to see who can get better times in 'less capable' cars then other people in 'more capable' cars, but just if everyone noted whether or not they used driving aids because it does greatly alter the final time(especially on such a long course), there has been a couple of suggestions mentioned and I would like everyone to post up with their opinion towards this.

Personally I feel that my suggestion of posting the abbreviation in green or gold. Green if they were NOT used and gold if they WERE used and written like this: ASM/TCS
(gold because it is easier to see on the screen then yellow :) )

Just remember to delete the space in between the ''(and likewise for gold) otherwise the colors will not change.

Say both driving aids WERE NOT used, the code would be as follows:
ASM/TCS e.g. ASM/TCS

Say both driving aids WERE used, the code would be as follows:
ASM/TCS e.g. ASM/TCS

Say Active Stability Management WAS NOT used but Traction Control System WAS, the code would be as follows:
ASM/TCS e.g. ASM/TCS

Say Active Stability Management WAS used but Traction Control System WAS NOT, the code would be as follows:
ASM/TCS e.g. ASM/TCS

I feel that displaying the use of the driving aids this way clearly displays whether or not the driver used them or not at a quick glance without making the leaderboard look untidy.

Please let me know what you guys think, I would love to start this up so we can distinguish clearly and quickly who used driving aids on their run and who did not but it can only happen if there is enough positive feedback! so Speak Out!

Hmmm... I generally like the idea, AusBoyRacer. How about some constructive critizism: gold and green?!?

Not the optimal choice IMHO.
1) It ain't intuitively clear which is on and which is off.
2) Gold gives mediocre contrast on the light grey background. Hard to read.
What would you say to this alternative color scheme here:

ASM/TCS
ASM/TCS

silver = off
Red = active

This would be more unmistakeable IMHO. And it would look a little bit like in the game, where the TCS indicator blinks red when the system is engaged. What do you think?

Cheers, Appreciate it :)

Yes, That could work, just that the grey isn't as clear as the red also.. but it does look smart. the two colour go together well.
I was just trying to work with close to primary colours that weren't already being used.
What other colours does the HTML code allow?
I don't really know alot of the HTML stuff so some suggestions with some well contrasting, easy on the eyes colours would be a great help!

What about Green/Red

P.S. I think part of the reason I went for the green and gold was because green wasnt being used, gold was still different from dark orange but easier to read then yellow. + Im Australian and I just like those colours alot when they are put together :sly: Hahaha.

make it simple guys, use a color if you used the aids and leave it blank if you didn't. just list the aid used.

Exactly what I was going to say

Anyway,

6'53.885 - -Diego- - Toyota Celica Wedssport Race Car '03 - R3
7'01.996 - -Diego- - Honda S2000 Race Car '01 - R3 -- Easy car to hate on the 'ring... changes direction suddenly and without warning

7'35.752 - -Diego- - Lotus Esprit Sport 350 '00 - S2
7'47.624 - -Diego- - Mercedes Benz E55 AMG '02 - S2
7'49.619 - -Diego- - Nissan 350Z '03 - S2
7'54.399 - -Diego- - Honda NSX Type S '99 - S2
7'54.529 - -Diego- - Audi RS6 '02 - S2
7'55.995 - -Diego- - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI RS TME '00 - S2

Wow, I can't get on for a day and look at all of these ideas:eek:.

Mr. Apex
Here's a suggestion, AngelCreator: It would be possible to divide each of the Leaderboard into three or more sections/subdivisions to break things a bit down, like this, for example:

Mr. Apex
Classes could be divided like this, for example (More or less as they do it on http://db.gtrp.de/ the database of the german forum):

Mr. Apex

Although I do like the idea(alot), it would take some time(which I can have sometimes).
I know the N2 and R3 leaderboard would not be too hard right now, but S2 could
take alot of time. But if you guys think it would be a good thing to have and make the
leaderboard that much better I can do it. I will work on the leaderboard offline so
I will have a little more time.

AusBoyRacer
IDEA: We could post ASM/TCS in a certain colour depending on whether they are used or not like green for off and yellow for on?

And this is another good, but it will be as hard as changing the leaderboard for
the cars. But everyone seems they want it alot, so I will work on it.

And I thank everyone for the ideas and inputs:bowdown:.
I will get to work on all of this, but as the last few days have been busy I don't
know when it will be done.

Thanks again,
James:)

Edit:
Ok I have updated the leaderboard, and I was thinking about the ASM/TCS thing.
If I did do that I think I would do it like this,

8'01.xxx - AngelCreator - Suzuki GSX-R/4 '01 - N2 - ASM/TCS

Red shows that both ASM and TCS were off, and Green would be used if they were on.
This of course would add alot of coding, and people would have to tell me what times
where using eather, and all of the new time would have to have this as well.
I can do this if you guys want, but I would add this after I get the leaderboard setup
with the new layout. But from what I have seen you guys don't mind waiting a bit;).

Dang! I was hoping I didn't have to update it all... I liked the idea of putting them /TCS/ASM) only if they were used... but anyway, I didn't use them in any of the cars, neither in the N2, S2 or R3 board.

Well the idea with ASM/TCS is still that, an idea. I did start to work on the leaderboard
with the car list, not to hard because after a set time all of the cars go to a different
leaderboard. I will keep you updated on have it's going:).

Thank you James, for all ther time and effort you put into this leaderboard and having the will and motivation to actually take our ideas and put them into action :D I really appreciate it and i am sure other people do aswell, Your doing and awesome job :)

This is definately one thread that I will check up on and include myself in regularly.

At the moment, I am striving for 100% game completion, which means doing the rest of the dreaded endurance races.. but I will try to do an endurace race, then run a few times for the leaderboard :) and then endurance, then leaderboard etc etc.

I cannot find the Amuse GT1 under the Amuse garage in arcade mode :( could someone give me some clues??

Thanks guys :)

You have to buy it in Simulation Mode for it to be available in Arcade Mode.

Once bought, you can find it under Japan > Amuse... oh, and on the endurances, I did them all in B-spec. :indiff:
