Based on what Omnis just said, it isn't very clear. He quoted me saying "Based on what you are saying you think letting the people choose is a bad thing." From there he responded with "Well done" meaning he agreed with my point.

I don't see how limiting choice is freedom, in fact it's actually limiting the freedom people have. If you can't agree with that then I have no idea what else to even say.

Removing your choice to murder is not limiting your freedom. There are many, many things the US government is not allowed to do - and it does most of them.

You don't think letting people choose their leaders is a good thing? So you would rather have them appointed? Wouldn't that be a dictatorship and thus not freedom? You guys have a very odd way of thinking since one minute you harp on and on about freedom then you say having people be able to choose how they are governed is a bad thing.

Also why on earth are you being so cryptic about it?

Wouldn't you be against people voting-in a Hitler? They did just that, you know. The point was that I simply said no because democracy can be dangerous, and I think a limited republic is better. I was being mum about it because I thought you'd think about it and understand for yourself. Sorry if this sounds condescending, but come on, dude. I didn't expect this to be dragged out.

Uh uh um er er... ah ah oh oh ooo Obama taking softb... I mean tough questions from the media:

I wonder when will Obama start acting like a President of the United States? He can't laugh it off because he gots a funny name, or dance it off on Ellen, or go back to eating his waffle anymore.

Message from the will of The Messiah:

All questions from peasant and citizen-alike must be brought forth to the Tribunal of The One. Direct challenging of The Messiah will not be tolerated. Disobedience of the Tribunal will result in removal from the White House Press Corps and instant beheading.

How would you be if a man came upon leadership, and dragged your country out of poverty into wealth? Ok, so I might have exagorrated a bit here now but Hitler, let's not view upon Hitler as the Hitler that started the war, did give most of the german people work when the American economy crisis hit the german country in 1930-31. Don't get me wrong here, who would ever knew Hitler would begin a war in the thirties? I'm against Hitler's view as well, hell, I'm no racist, facist or nazist (Nazi? What's the term for this ideal view anyway in English?). But if I were living in a poor country, got no home to stay, no bed to sleep in and no food to eat, you can be damn sure that man's got my vote for restoring the country, creating a job for me so I can earn a house, family and food...

Even if said plan involved genocide? Don't forget he used the Jewish people as a scape goat for their economic problems.

Hitler was selected by Life magazine as 'Man of the Year' right after he came to power.
What brought Hitler to power was the ruin following WWI, and the aftermath in which Germany was made the 'scapegoat' for having started everything.

But that didn't give the Germans their jobs did it? Hitler wasn't the frst to blame the Jewish people for their problems. In the end, it's always up to someone to take the blame. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not implying that I agree in any way with Hitler, I'm just having respect for the man because of how he expanded the german military, and achieving such a high rate of employment in the country. Bear in mind how the world humiliated Germany after WWI.

If I were a man living in the '30s, in poverty, and Hitler's politics could bring me a life in comfort and wealth, I'd be happy to accept that offer rather than dying of hunger and sickness...

If I recall correctly, the extermination of the Jews was more of a twisted afterthought than an actual campaign piece. Nevertheless, Hitler was a very strong anti-Semitic, but then again, so was the rest of the world. Its well-known how much men like Henry Ford hated them, and yet we still hold him up as one of the greatest Americans who have lived. Both Hitler and Himmler spoke of him frequently in the early days.

What he is talking about is the public works projects that were started by Hitler in the early days of the Reich, many of which did employ hundreds of thousands of workers during the war (mainly the Autobahn and Volkswagen projects), and may very well have been responsible for a large portion of the economic growth in the interwar period. Interestingly, I just wrote a paper on this for my German history class... Weird.

I wouldn't say so. Hitler merely couldn't put his plans into place until he knew he has consolidated power over the country where any objectors wouldn't matter.

Perhaps invoking Godwin's law was not the best thing to do. I think I made my point before, guys. Don't drag this out too far.

The Jews would not have been exterminated in a peace time Germany. That wouldnt have happened (though they might have been deported or stripped of authority.) And so the hostilities that led to WWII were more central to Hitlers intentions, and those hostilities were directed at western powers. Strangely, Hitler held enemies like the English in some respect- its the respect (in part) carried over from the first war, where heroic behavior in the face of death is esteemed, even from the opposing side. Contrasted to his attitude towards the jews, who were seen as only valuing self preservation and 'commerce' above anything else.

If the second war had been averted I'm certain the jews would have escaped that ultimate atrocity. Whether or not they would have been allowed to remain and thrive in Germany is questionable. But doubtful.

per Omnis- i'll stop it here.

From the article:

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates is asking many of the Bush administration's 250 Pentagon political appointees to remain on the job until the incoming Obama administration finds replacements -- a move designed to prevent a leadership vacuum with U.S. troops engaged in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I don't think that's a huge deal, it sounds as though many of these guys will be holding the jobs temporarily until Obama gets his men/women into the Pentagon.

If I have learned anything from the news this past week, it is that the most important thing going on with our president elect is is hot bod. My political news is looking like Entertainment Tonight, complete with sneaky telephoto lens paparazzi pictures.

Yeah, that's the sweeping change the "change" candidate is bringing.

Meh. He could have done worse things.

He's still available, right?

So I'm listening to Bush and am about ready to barf. Militarism, HEIL!

edit: lol, "Killing innocent people to advance an ideology is never acceptable." Unless it's our ideology, right?

I nearly choked on my meatloaf when I heard it, and then I may have yelled senselessly at the television afterward.

I almost feel bad for the guy. He actually seems to believe the stories he tells on TV.

I believe he is referring to intent. He never intended to kill innocents, Al Qaeda did.

Like nearly everyone else in Washington?

I am sure Obama believed half the stuff that he said too, but now he sounds like he is reading off a memo he stole while touring the White House.

I wonder what Thomas Jefferson would say about all this. It seems the more grand the inauguration, the more terrible the President will be. Remember 2004?

If he chokes on his food, then I'll be worried.

It was cool watching the concert yesterday though, I enjoyed it so much I watched it twice on HBO (well, mostly because it was free).

I'm looking forward to the events we're holding on campus tomorrow, and furthermore, following my friend's twitter pages, as they will be in the main crowd for the Inauguration, having tickets for operating the Minnesota campaign.

Very cool indeed!
