Online "kinda" works now. I managed to have more than 4 races without any problems yesterday, which means that servers are finally ready for the upcoming patch, or something.

Disconnects, freezinig and suchs are still there, but on the much lower scale. In comparing with situation just 3 days ago, this is heaven.

Yes its been pretty good for the last two nights.
I had a few good races on line with a lobby of eight people last night.
The game did not have any lag either.
When the online works properly its much better than GT Plologue.

That's what I hope. I only tried online once, but was in a hurry to race and when it crashed I didn't bother to look for the online features. Can you tell me if the host can ban any arriving punter?

EDIT - And also if that can be done during the race (like in TRD3) or just when it finishes, when returning to the lobby?

I dont think you can ban anybody.
But they may have put this in with the patch.
I am hoping we might get the patch today.
Some of the races had eight people in the lobby and no lag and no cars jumping about all over the place.

I have now had about 12 races online and it beats prologue by a long way.
I have not had one race online where people just crash you out and all of the races were played properly.
I nearly forgot to mention in one of the races a guy got disqualified and was out of the race.

I perserviered through the rough service with this and the races I've had although really low car numbers have all been classics. Lets hope the patch hits in the next 24 hours!

Does the on-line allow different cars to race against each other or is it one class only?

Could we race 250GTO's against 250LM's?

Yep just one make, keeps the focus on close racing and driver rather than car, It eliminates the one car beat all that sometimes crops up in racing games also, you can customise your car paint wise but thats as far as it goes, talking of online I can't find a single online host again, tried for half an hour even hosted my own for 10 mins, not a soul?............make of that what you will

Am I the only one who can't abide the in-car view due to FPS problems, exacerbated by the steering wheel which appears to be moving in slow, stuttery, motion.

The bonnet view appears smoother, the lack of the steering wheel likely helps disguise any FPS issues, plus the games much brighter and pleasant.

I use the bonnet view all the time now.
You get a much better view of the road and a higher impression of speed.
The game to me seems to run smoother as well.

I have noticed this as well.. frame drops while in cockpit view, graphical glitches, too dark and it sort of feels unpleasant in some cars..
Sadly, it's the only view i use and want to use, but i have noticed these things while being in cockpit view and comparing it to external views.

I'm looking forward to FC coming out in Canada in a week or so. From the sounds of this thread & the various ON-line issues, I'm expecting to use it primarily in Single-player mode. If FC can have decent AI, why can't GT5P???

I've been playing FC with the pad for the last week or so as I can only get the wheel out when my wifes not around... can't believe how much easier the game is with the pad vs the wheel... complete opposite to GT5P. Absolutely sailed through most of the remaining trophy events (only have a couple of the 550 events left - I don't really like the 550 to drive as much as the mid engined stuff or the classics).

First time with the wheel post patch last night to try out the new FF settings... the medium and low FF options don't really work for me... just seem to leave a bigger and bigger dead zone around straight ahead.

I have to totally agree here, its the one game where for me my pad times are faster than my G25.

that's a bit worrying, as I have no interest in playing it without a wheel.

There seems to be issues with the wheel options, 180 degree wheels seem too twitchy making the simple task of driving in a straight line more than problomatic and the 900 degree wheels seem to have a deadzone which is too large making turning in a little hit or miss.......I expect (hope) the devs get these issues sorted along with the online sync errors in the next patch due in a few weeks.....Make no mistake though this game should not be missed. After a 6 player race around Redwood in the rain over 20 mins driving the 512's last night I have to say it was the best race I've had on a console online....battled upto 2nd until I span out and finished eventualy in 4th, an adrenerlin rush from start to finish with cleaner racing than most real world F1 Races!

Owen
PR FC LOL

The game is far more involving with the wheel, but after playing with the pad the problems become clear... the deadzone around straight coupled with over-strong FF makes small steering corrections very difficult... particularly under braking. You try to make a tiny adjustment to your line, then the FF kicks in and you're all over the place. Doesn't happen with the pad.

Does anybody gets the difference between the "Time Trial" records under "Leaderboards" and "Lap Rankings"? I get where the Time Trials times are obtain, but I just don't get it how do you make the time under Lap Rankings?

Also, I find overall "Ranking" pretty unpolished - top-places are determined solely by the precentage gained on Tutorial race. All othe factors listed there (number of races, wins, card collected, etc..) does not affect your Ranking.

Strange.

Dosn't happen in my Audi Quatro either and I use a wheel rather than a pad to drive that LOL........The wheel just aint quite right on FC, It seems it dosn't matter which wheel you have, there all slightly off I do keep trying but you think your winning then off you go again :scared:

I agree.

one more thing. that bloody race start counter sometimes costs me the race!

Phew, i tought i was the only one having problems with an FF wheel.
Ferrari challenge is the first game i play with a FF wheel... glad to hear it isn't a problem with GT5 prologue or most other games.
I think with ferrari challenge in particular it would be better having vibration dual shock rumble on a wheel instead of force feedback.

I don't think an FF wheel can be used as a vibration rumble instead of force feedback does it???

I was thinking of playing ferrari challenge with my old PS2 wheel on the PS3...
I have a madcatz PS2 wheel with vibration rumble and a PS2 to PS3 controller adapter but for some reason it will only work with my PS2 pad but not with my PS2 wheel on my PS3.

That is so wrong, so wrong :) Besides, you have to notice that feeling of force feedback is very subjective issue. For example, I have no issues with force feedback effects in FCTP whatsover - only thing that bothers me is small deadzone when comapred with GT5P for instance.

amar,

I agree that the FF isn't the real issue. it's the deadzone... but the size of the deadzone exagerates the FF effects.

But I really enjoy this game with the pad... had an incredible race with the AI last night at Infineon in the US Challenge series. Qualified 5th and got punted off by 2nd place whilst going for an overtake on lap 2 (if GT5P on-line was as rough as FC AI there would be even more moaning - the AI is brutal). Re-joined, then caught and passed 2nd, leaving me 12 seconds behind 1st with about 6 laps remaining. Absolutely on the limit for the remainder of the race, each lap faster than the last - caught and passed him in to the final hairpin on the last lap for the victory :)

Well I've been racing with a few of th UKOG guys and online races seem to be stable upto 6 players now been having some really good races with these guys, last race was at monza in the 348, on average I think I swaped places for 1'st 1 or 2 times per lap and finaly lost 1st after a drag race to the finish losing by 0.03 seconds......yeah close racing LOL Paint was "gently" traded a few times but with racing this close you just cant avoid it, and not once did anyone even get moved of the racing line let alone the track!
But anyway for those having trouble hosting a large room without people jumping i and out the loby and making the race unstable, pick a car other than the 430 and you should have some great lag free games with a decent field of cars.

Thank for your comment Hereward and glad you are injoying racing with us.

I find its not about winning that makes online racing fun its the close fair racing and i and anyone from UKOG will race like that anyway see you online people.
