:bowdown:Ok let me start with a congrats to uk86ze well done too good:tup:

Very accurate report of the race.

I totally missed the start HAHAHA, but I felt it was ok, as I was sure I was a little quicker than you in a few corners in the second part of the lap. This proved to be true as I was on your tail coming down the main straight for lap 2.

Laps 2,3,4, I thought I'd just keep the gap asclose as possible and not try to pass.

Beginning of lap 5 I thought I'd take the lead and go for it , as watching you maybe I could put a gap on, but someone had gone off at turn 1, and they had caught my eye and i missed the apex:dunce:allowing you to come back the inside.Side by side up to 2 I take a little grass with the left hand side and take the lead for the rest of the lap ,you having the odd twitch behind, only half a car length lead into the final turn and I seemed to have baulked your run maybe, giving me an increasing gap, coming out of the turn.

A WRX was weaving in front,as I accelerate, I turn to the inside out of the straight out of the draft ,you follow me down the straight ,I brake a little early so I don't get caught up with the WRX, HA he is late and misses the turn you are all over the braking area and take the lead.

I don't know why, but I can't recall where and how I blew this lap, other than a gap of too much to recover was staring at me all of a sudden.I put in my fastest laps, not suprising as a clear track and a little self annoyance will create a more then a couple of tenths.

All in all a great test of consistancy and racing ability, unfortunately I failed it this time. Look forward to racing you in the near future. :)

All the best in the coming rounds uk86ze.👍

Any link or page Kevin which shows who's gone through/won their match up.

Yep, I'll start on that tonight. Haven't had a lot of extra time the last couple days, I've had people here, but just got home from dropping them at the airport.

I'm using leopard too. Whenever I download the file, it takes my to mac excel. My trial is over and it will not let me view the file.

Can't you just uninstall Excel then?

Oh dears, it appears I'll be racing week one after all. I'm racing GTP_TheCrazyOne, hopefully we can get our race in before the deadline, and more importantly I hope my brakes self-tapping issue doesn't get worse by the time of our race.:scared:

Thanks to Sureshot for a great race - and hats off too, if I'd been using a DS3 instead of a wheel I'd have been nowhere.

Really glad we have the 10 lap format. Long enough for tension to play quite a big role. Maintaining any lead in the closing laps becomes a real sweaty palm affair.

Love the round-robin idea.

Good luck to everyone yet to race.

Those last 2 laps you really do feel it as you start to make silly mistakes when your in the lead.

uk86ze really nice chronicle of the race...breathtaking really.

I really like the idea of the round robin inside divisions, I think it would be a really nice idea for those who get eliminated soon and want more organized events...

Kind regards

I've been playing Pool and Snooker over 20 years, and take a part tenths of tournaments.

In billiard, I very much like two-sided 'pyramid-structure', what also give you one chance to loose to your pair... in that case, you fall to 'loosers-sheet', and by winning all your remaining 'looser-matches' you can still end up to Finals or Semi-finals, and beating that dude there, even win whole tournament.

It's my favorite way to organise pool-tournaments, and almost everyone elses too, who I know from those circles.

Nice Pool structures you can easily find from many Billiard-sites, and use them straight to this kind of Heads-up events.

That would be so great in next GTP online event!

Edit: I googled with words, pool tournament sheet

I had considered this, but it keeps the number of pairings and the amount of administration at a high level. Since we've never done an event with this many participants, I want to see how it runs before we take on more. Also, the lack of a professional world event is adding layers of complication to the whole thing.

I will hang on to the info you've provided for future consideration. 👍

I can easily imagine how much work this does... try hang on Pal. 👍

When I'm out from this event, (next round :nervous: ) I will start to take names up for 16plrs Double Eliminate Tournament, just to Beta-test how it works in this game, with those who want to take a part... I think there will be few guys who had not enough heads-up yet. :)

I have a question for the mods.

It looks like some of us will be missing the deadline for the one on one races due to either real life limitations or non-responding partners.

What will happen if we miss the deadline? Will that depend on the nature of the miss, will the deadline be extended or will both players be dq'd?

:nervous:

Here is what was posted in the original thread -

EDK
Time Frame:

  • All races must take place no later than February 9th, 2009 at 11:59 pm GMT. You must send a PM to me (EDK) before that date and time.
  • If you are unable to make contact with the driver you are paired against, PM me (EDK) with the details within 48 hours of the event deadline.
  • Failure to agree a date & time (Or make contact according to the procedure above) before the deadline will result in disqualification.

You've contacted me, your partner has not. When it is clear that one individual is making an effort to participate and the other is making it difficult, I will DQ the person who is making it difficult. So please just keep some evidence that you have attempted contact.

Keep in mind, my original rules for submitting an entry included -

  • Each round will last 7 days. Drivers who cannot complete a round within the 7 days will forfeit their race
  • Each participant will receive a one time grace to use at a time of their choosing to account for vacation, holidays, work travel, etc.
  • If you won't be able to adhere to these time lines, please do not submit an entry.

I even made the first week easy by posting the race early and giving everyone 2 full weekends to complete their races. We want a lot of participants, but we want to keep this moving. Thanks for staying proactive, Steven. My reply is for the benefit of all. 👍

GTP_Vanuber7 v GTP_Davey07-O37.....I think I pulled off the grid slightly earlier(quite difficult to time it just right) but VM was ok with it. I got into the first corner first and managed to increase my lead gradually..I kept consistant for a couple laps then came across an F430. Managed to pass him ok, but I lost a liitle concentration(A bit sloppy through a few corners) and he gained on me and passed me back on the straight. Vanuber7 was starting to drop back...Then I got my head down and started to get a bit quicker each lap. Then I repassed the F430. Then got past I think was a Clio no probs, then just settled down to the end of the race...Beat my own PB lap time in the process too....Thanks to Vanubermaster for the race and probably see you again soon...👍

bout to do mine with GTP_Sedubius. Hope this goes well.

Congrats to GTP_Animera
That was a close and fun race:tup:(early in the morning for me)
Beat me with a half car length:ouch:

This is pathetic if connections are the same when we race there won't be a race.:grumpy: Every race I entered tonight trying to practise with others has been disconnected after a couple of laps. (And it's not just me, everyone DCs).

I want you to try this. When it says, You have been disconnected, do not press ok, do not press anything. Just wait till race is over. 👍

I have seen this, for some reason you never actually disconnect in some circumstances. These ones have been where all oppononents have suddenly lost all control and grind to a halt, plus racing this Race Event 02 could be a little annoying with a big DC'ed sign blocking your vision.:ouch:

I know, but you could give it a try. I mean just a simple thing like that sorted my problems out last year. Because I was having the exact same problems as you.

Actually, I just remembered, these aren't giving me the option any more. What happens is all other cars become lifeless and essentially just roll off the track, then for about half a second the DC'ed sign comes up before instantly taking me back to the race menu.:ouch:

Very strange. Well I hope it gets sorted out ASAP. 👍

I've posted another response in the connection issues thread -

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3299879&postcount=16

If any one racer is having apparent connection issues that others are not experiencing, I'll have no choice but to DQ the racer having connection issues, if indeed the pairing is unable to complete their race.

Not trying to be harsh, but as stated in the past, we are trying to be fair to all, and keep this moving. 👍

If that has to be then so be it, I won't argue. We'll see come Sunday night.

@ Animera
Well done Bro
Wish i could have been there to show my support but had to go out for the night.

GTP_Hyperuk was the better man in our race earlyer today 👍 Congratulation Dan :) I had no chane after my braking error.. Wish you all the best in future races !

GTP_Synwraith vs GTP_Sjaak - Division 2 Bronze match

First off, thank you to Sjaak for organising the race time with such swiftness and efficiency expected of a GTP mod 👍

We managed to get into our first attempted race at 10:15 GMT as planned and the start went very well, we lined up in our grid slots and got away cleanly with me leading into turn 1.

In the first few laps the distance remained pretty similar with Sjaak having the advantage down to the chicane but I felt I had the advantage in T3 and going onto the start line, as a result I wasn't overtaken much on the straight due to slipstream.

We came across a few stragglers and I got lucky as I was the first to encounter them and therefore used the slipstream to good effect, putting some daylight between myself and Sjaak. But he always passed the backmarkers swiftly and made up the gap...back to square one.

Then we came across a blue Clio that just didn't want to let us by. I had pulled out about 1-2 seconds on Sjaak and the Clio effecft allowed him to close up as I had to compromise many corners and deal with the constant bumps and nudges.

I would like to thank Sjaak for supremely gentleman driving and not adding to my grief when he saw how much hassle the Clio was giving me. He hung back, drove respectfully and considerately and just waited for the outcome, using slipstream where he could. He never tried any outrageous moves.

The Clio eventually spun himself out and we were left nose-to-tail in a 2-lap shootout.

On lap 9 Sjaak got the lead into turn 1 and lead the whole lap. I got a better exit from the last corner and we were side by side down the straight on the start of lap 10. I was ahead at the line but Sjaak had slipstream anbd passed me, but he overshot into turn 1 so I retook the lead.

I held the lead until the end, making use of the slipstream from a Ferrari on the very last straight at the end of the race, thus ending up the winner.

I can't thank Sjaak enough for his gentlemanly, fair, clean and impressive driving. My nerves were all over the place and I went onto the green patches a few times but I don't think I gained anything by it. You are a credit to the community and GTP, Sjaak. And thank you for your congratulations

Interestingly, I had been running frequent 1'43s all day today, even managing a new personal best of 1'43.243...but when it mattered, couldn't manage anything better than a 1'44.

Loved every minute of it.

All the best
Maz

Excellent writeup, Maz. And sounds like it was a great race. Congrats, and thanks. 👍
