Absolutely love this game. Even the girlfriend loves the game hah. The little details like popping a tire on drift mode just makes it all better. Sense of speed in this game is 10x better than in GT5 imo. Every car i drive in GT5 doesn't "make" me feel like i'm going 160+ but hell, even at 120 KPH in Shift 2, i feel like i'm going 140 MPH. Can't wait for the DLC cars and the drag strip. So far this game and upcoming DiRT3 will be my favorite racing games so far this year. I won't trade in GT5, it'll just sit there and collect dust so when i actually do want to "drive" a car with "driving" physics, i'll pop it in.

Cant keep away from SU2, lovin it, enjoying it far more than the dull disappointing GT5, seem to have nailed it with settings for my DFGT thank god and as mentioned above, the Autolog feature is a great addition, very addictive indeed..another night playin to 3 in the morn maybe then lol...

This will keep me happy up till when FM4 is released and beyond I'm sure 👍

Hey I want a piece of this pie, lol.

Add me to the list. I am having a blast with this title. I am getting a great racing experience and competition with the A.I and with Autolog. Two games in one kinda. I have the PS3 version and I don't have near the amount of complaints with S2U as I do with GT5.

The fun factor and the longevity is there. Learn to master its physics and stop comparing it to GT5's physics and the game gets better as you progress. If they never even patched one thing, I am still satisfied. We are getting alot more for our money on release day that its counterpart.

I find myself *enjoying* this game for hours before I even know it. There are clear objectives and things I look forward to trying out. Never once did I feel I was forced to do something i didn't want to. The progression for money, tracks and events were perfect. Even if I finished in the middle of the pack, it was a great race.

I am currently at level 20 with about 18% career completed. Still plenty of events to do, and I look forward to the DLC also.

I also completed a number of "Quick" races with the default 3 laps. This is one game where the races were so close (trading positions back-and-forth) that I often re-ran the races with more laps (not wanting it to end so fast). Again, it was so much fun even if I don't podium. Each position has a private battle of its own. I could be in position 13 of 16 and still have a competitive battle with the A.I. around me. Great stuff! The A.I. will race competitively amoungst themselves. The car classes are well matched so there is never a clear winner.

I love this game. When I've put in a week more I'll make a 'final verdict' post (lol) but so far it's more than great!

- I love the car selection (could have been bigger, but at least there is no useless or silly fluff and ancient junk in the car lot)
- I love the track selection: Spa-Francorchamps is my new favorite race track in any racing game
- Cockpit view is natural, intuitive and simply works very well
- The racing is a visceral spectacle, it's raw, dirty, loud and immersive; all your senses get battered.
- The AI is just brilliant
- Damage is awesome
- When you tune your car a bit and enable steering assist the handling is adequate.
- Autolog is the perfect hybrid between online and offline racing and makes me come back to old events to beat my friend's scores

I could go on, but I will in another post. So far this is to me what a *RACING* game is all about. If I want to drive a perfectly modeled toy car around in a sterile plastic world, I'll play GT5... If I want to have an exciting race I'll be playing Shift 2.

Pretty much saves me writing what i love about the game! 👍

After a rough days work i'll pop in Shift 2 and tell myself i'll just play for an hour or 2.Before i know it it's time to go to bed

It's been a while since a racing game has made me lose track of time. This game is awesome 👍

First 10 mins of Shift 2 i hated it , but as soon as i set my dfp up properly ive fell in love with it, a great game with a realistic wheel feeling and challenging ai :)

I also feel like I am rewarded well for finishing 2nd or 3rd. Every time I make the podium whether or not I won, Gittin Jr. is all like "Way to go! you made the podium!"

For some reason, I like that alot.

I agree with all the things above so I won't repeat them again. In additional, I really like the little details in Shift 2 (some carried forward from Shift 1):

- Vibrating wipers at high speed
- Vibrating safety nets at high speed
- Proper hand animation moving the gear shifter
- Leaves on the road kicks up from the cars in front
- Marbles and debris on the road kicks up from the cars in front
- Hand-over-hand animation
- Proper dials for each car not only for the interior views, but also for exterior views
- Dials have covers that reflect the lighting
- Looking left and right pans smoothlhy (i.e. not instant like in Forza)
- Amazing sounds and the option to fine tune them individually (e.g. environmental, vehicle, music, voice, etc.)
- Track side atmoshpere (flag girls, reporters, mechanics, team mates)
- Damage visual
- Damage physics
- The reflection of the dash on the windshield
- Helicopters, hot-air balloons, flying airplans (it may not be realistic, but I still prefer it compare to a sterile environment).
- Voice (annoying for some people, but I like it. It adds a connection to my virtual team)
- Pre-event cut-screens. Again, I enjoy them and thought they were well done. It adds to the atmosphere.
- Pre-race prep-talk has variation (try restarting over and over again), and some of them are track specific.
- Restarting a race sometimes have different pre-race animation. Camera angles and voice are different each time you restart a race.
- Fast menus. I can exit a race, go to the car lot, buy a new car and be back in the race in about about 1.5 minutes!
- I like the post-race voice over. I don't find them anoying and adds to the atmosphere.
- I like the many different liveries for the same car. I don't like racing a car with the same livery and number (feels strange seeing myself on the track)
- Most cars can be modded or works converted.
- Interior upgrades are visually represented (add a rollcage or boost dial and you will see it)
- Having a windshield!
- Adding stickers to the windshield.
- etc, etc.

Looks like everything is pretty much covered after that post. haha
The interior views are by far the highlight of this game. Just incredible detail like the top of the dash reflecting off the windshield. Or the glass on the gauges reflecting. I also like the wipers bouncing at higher speeds and the hand motions on the wheel. All great attention to detail for sure.

It feels good to be a winner!!

I just spend a few hours just hotlapping various D-class cars around Brands Hatch GP and Glendale West. I'm starting to really enjoy the driving in Shift 2. You can really feel the car approaching its limits, getting closer and closer to the edge - it really feels incredibly nice, I think.

I'm pretty impressed with my Hachiroku, by the way. Seeing it dominate basically everything else in its class...

supergoop
- Helicopters, hot-air balloons, flying airplans (it may not be realistic, but I still prefer it compare to a sterile environment).
I think the helicopters add realism. I was at the British GP last year and I was sitting at abbey for the third practice because there was that bump there. It also happened that it was across the track from the helicopter pads. I think I have a photo of seven of them in the air at once over the pads.

It's been the same at Laguna Seca for the last few rounds of the MotoGP, with no fewer than 3 helicopters in the air at any given time. I've yet to see a blimp, tho...

Hey Starfirebird, your pretty good man. Your one of my friends on Autolog and its very very addictive to try to beat your lap times. I don't know how you do it but 98% of the time, your times are not reachable for me,lol. It's fun trying though. I usually get within 5 seconds of you when the cars are close to even.

I hope this thread can stick around for all the skeptical people out there. I am sure we all didn't feel happy with the first couple of races. But we did see the potential so we kept going. I am sure some have given up already and sold or traded it in. Big mistake. I can almost guarantee that more than 75% of those that gave up, will repurchase it eventually.

I don't sell or trade in any of my games, no matter how bad they are. They just collect dust. GT5 more than likely will never get played again in my PS3. If it does, it will be for less than 24-48 hrs per year. I haven't played it since late December. Great job SMS, bring on the DLC.

I must admit the game is very fun. I am personally using a PS3 with a DFGT (finally have it dialed in), on elite, and AI on hard and I can still win occasionally. I drive using the helmet camera view and zero HUD display, I appreciate the level of immersion that they have put into the game.

He's at the top of quite a few of mine as well

A thread to say why we like it so much and to share our best moments in the game.

(for the record: PS3 + G27 with AWD's settings from this forum, on ELITE + HARD)

I'm currently at 12% completion and so far I'm loving it. I actually never imagined a racing game could be SO good. It's immersive, beautiful to look at, it gives me a real feeling of danger, it makes me understand when I'm at the limit of the car and that's a wonderful sensation.
I will discuss a few bullet point.
- I don't mind the physics at all. I find that I can make the car do pretty much whatever I want it to do. Small and sudden correction manoeuvres included. And I love the way the wheel goes soft when I lose traction.
- The graphics: yes I can clearly see the resolution is not excellent, but I like it very much anyway, there's something special about the design of the game, the circuits, the atmosphere. It all feels alive, I can sense these circuits have a soul.
- The AI is amazing. I like the way the cars are all packed together, there is not a clear leader. They are intelligent, they will never stop trying to pass you and pass each other too, if they can't pass you on one side they try the other one. They break late, they make mistakes. And I don't find them to be overly aggressive at all. 99.5% of the time my races are without any contact. When they take me out it's because I invaded their line, not because they are jerks. I took notice of this and realized that sometimes I put myself suddenly in their line and simply they have not enough time to react. Simply put: I find it very similar to playing online against real people. This makes the replayability of the game very long, because any "quick race" I create will be just as challenging as any career mode race.
- There are some aspects that I find very realistic: I lose control when I land after a jump, when I hit a curb, when I hit another car.
- Night racing: the lighting and everything, it's just very well done. I turn off the light in my room and I stay in total darkness and it's really engaging.

Favourite moments so far:
- The 3-stage event at Glendale at night with my 676PI Acura NSX. My goodness. Sliding through those long corners, passing the rivals on the inside managing to keep in the tiny space between the barrier and the opponent, all this while basically tandem-drifting, knowing that the slightest touch would send me off, feeling that I'm on the limit of the car and of the track. And at the end of the turn the opponent would come out still ahead and I would go "damn!" and the battle would continue in the next corner with no time to breath. Adrenalin rushing, heart pumping. I found myself laughing out loud, out of pure satisfaction when I got things done well, and at the end of each stage I was shaking.
- Dijon: I just love that track.

Least favourite things:
- "The Eliminator" events: just too much chaos.

All in all the reason why I love this game is emotions and sensation. It makes me feel fear, pride, accomplishment, satisfaction, adrenaline, physical exertion. I never imagined this could be possible. At the moment my opinion is: far beyond expectations. And I really hope it keeps being like this until the end.

Anyone else appreciates S2U as much as I do? :)

I appreciate Shift 2: Unleashed just as much as you do. It's a game that invites you to take a stroll with you, instead of *COUGH* GT5 *COUGH* other games that just push you away you invite them to a walk or just any activity, like this other game made by Japanese which just holds you at an arm's length instead of rewarding you with more. Oh my, the guys at SM Studios were right! GT5 + Forza are too squarish, too mathematical, everything seems to be too organized in its unorganization. Shift 2 goes out of the box and goes into the Driver's emotional side, just shows you the other side of the box. (If you do not understand this post, please disregard it, as clearly you are below 13 years of age and do not have proper English language qualifications) :sly:

Did I already mention how great the track selection is? Just discovered Dubai - drove it at dusk with a Lambo Murc... Awesome!

I agree about the tracks. Loving them. Except that ...

Why does a Tokyo track always need to be on the docks, in the middle of iron crates, with narrow roads and greater than 90 degree turns?

GRID did the same thing.

Not a big fan of Tokyo's tracks but other than that, the rest are awesome.

Hi all, i'm very close to buying this game after reading some of the posts in this thread and it seems to me that instead of comparing it to gt5 and forza would grid be a more comparable game in the way it is set out and the way the driving physics are ?

It's physics are very different from GRID. A lot more advanced. You can tune and upgrade your cars which you couldn't do in GRID.

Apart from that, you could say it has the same attitude and focuses on racing with competitive AI. And it has more cars and events.

I'm actually starting to like those kinds of track, I'm learning to drift on them! ;)
For example the Japanese retro hot lap with the R32 was a blast for me!
I like them a bit less when I have to race a 500hp+ monster lol

I resurrected this thread because I thought it was the best place to post my comments:

I'm not a big gamer, not a "techie", and I don't frequent video game forums often. In reading many threads here and in the GT5 forums, there is so much argument about how good/bad the games are.

For me, it's very simple...is the game fun for me or not? It would be nice if there weren't any glitches. It would be nice if the game had all the features I think I would like. I have my share of problems with S2U, it's frozen a couple of times, and I don't receive my bonus cash like I'm supposed to.

But, this is a fun game for me and I keep playing it anyway. I'm hopeful a patch will fix my problems soon. In the meantime, I don't care that much about the technical aspects of these games, and which is better. It's OK for others to care about that, if that's their thing. I suspect I'm not the only one that just cares about how much fun I'm having, since that is the purpose of a video game. If it's not fun, I return it or I just don't play it much...simple.

I'm right there with you man.

Yeah, I like Shift 2 👍 Dirty, noisy, vicseral racing. A welcome change from the calm sterility of GT5

The car mods, the livery and paint shops are all great fun. Autolog and the Speedwall are nice touches too

The handling model does need a little tweaking imo, but I'm getting used to it now. 50 on the steering sensitivity
and sticky tyres makes the cars drivable, although still on the ragged edge which adds to the suspense :D

Most enjoyable car for me so far is the Alfa 8C, upgraded from C class to B. I did go mad earlier and modded it completely
to Works spec, but didn't like so I sold it, got another and got it up to B again

All in all, Shift 2 is a worthy addition to my driving game collection

That said, if I was held at gunpoint and had to hand over Shift 2 or GT5, it'd be bye-bye Shift. GT5 is pure class imo

What I really like about Unleashed: Tracks with clag and messy, crunchy contact. A place where trading paint is not limited to five a day...Screeching on the guard rail as I try to get my nose forward after a spin in London. Really feeling the slip as the tail lights attempt to beat me around a corner in Shanghai and how with a little throttle control I can correct this...very rewarding.

I still love GT5, split my time between the two and I think this combo has made me better in both. I have only had a wheel for less than 2 months, so I'm still learning, seeing continual improvement in times. I'm not sure if I'd like both as much if I had a greater level of skill. We'll see.

This weekend I had an incredible experience on the Miami course braking early at one of the 90° corners and got hit from behind - I had an actual sense of motion, like I was slipping forward.

I don't know if the "lag" is really a problem or just a different feel. Using set-up from GTP and tweaking it myself, I enjoy the heavy wheel in Shift 2. If for some reason you turned "auto clutch" on, turn it off.
