Hi guys. I'm a 59 year-old newbie, and never used driving games up until my boy bought Shift1...which I loved so much that I went out and bought Shift2 just for ME.
I use Xbox 360 with matching wireless wheel. The wheel seems to be set up fine as standard, unlike some of the problems I've heard about with other wheels used on Shift2.
Anyway, on the subject of how 'realistic' the driving experience is, well I've only had a little experience of PGR4 and GRID, neither of which I found at all realistic.
I'm a bit of a petrolhead, been 'proper' driving for 42 years, and all I can say is that with a bit of tuning the Shift2
driving experience is pretty good so far. Perhaps it is an advantage to me that I haven't got used to something like the GT series or Forza, so I don't know any different ?
I race online too, and usually I'm pretty competitive and can achieve wins and podiums, even with my older person's lousy reactions. No driving god, but not in anyone's way either.
Only problem is, my upchange paddle has recently busted, so have to use auto and just downchange going into corners.
I have noticed that the brakes are more effective when using the gamepad (which normally I'm hopeless using of course...not being an experienced gamer.

), rather than the wheel. Not sure how I can improve things there.
I think Shift2 is a really good experience now that some of the early bugs (freezing for instance) have been ironed out.👍
This wasn't online, so only slow AI getting bumped off:
