I have to say Shift 2 is the first racing game I played where it doesn't bother me that no music is playing while driving.

The racing in this game, along with the great AI, is intense, engaging, and demands too much of my attention to worry about BGM, and I love it. :)

Unlike GT5, where I have to have my favorite songs playing so I won't fall asleep due to its dull racing. :yuck:

The engine noises is the sweet music in this game 👍

Wow I bought this game yesterday night and played it for a good 2 hours... after 15 minutes, I wanted to cry because I couldn't handle any car, but after 2 hours I wanted to keep on playing all night long but I had to go to sleep since I work in the morning :) I really like this game, and I don't know when (if) i'll ever go back to GT5!
The thing I like most so far is the very competitive AI...

Your experience if VERY common. Within the first 15 minutes after getting GT5 I was able to put down some respectable times - and that was with the DS3 controller.
So many, me included, pick up SU2 and immediately get somewhat frustrated. The control just "seems" so much harder than what we are accustom to. I didn't give up and after a few hours I started to "appreciate" what SU2 has to offer a sim racer. I think the bar has been raised!

Note: GT5 seems to be the whipping boy in many comparisons. I like GT5 but not as an exciting "racing" sim. GT5 and Forza was all we had (less "arcade") for quite some time so it is somewhat natural to use these as a measuring stick.

I gotta say I find this game much more enjoyable than the first... there are some definite cons for all the pros but I am really impressed with how much fun it is to race. I find myself finishing races not even on the podium just becuase it was still a good fun race.

Anything under 2 laps (especially on city courses) doesn't do much for me, but 5+ laps on a nice race track is just awesome! Reminds me of my early days playing TOCA... it's a battle the whole way and you can go from winning to losing it multiple times in one race.

I am really impressed with the look to apex! I have never been a fan of this feature and basically anything that changes my screen view without tactile response for my body is a no no in my book... however after turning it on I found it amazingly natural feeling. It gets the view shift at the right time 90% of the time and really does exactly what my eyes would be doing normally withoutout throwing off my connection with the direction the car is going.

The only times I find it messes up are the first corner of a race with a long straight (it feels like my car just suddenly starts sliding out under me) and tight chicanes where the back and forth movement of the camera is a bit disconcerting. Other than that though it's great! The first few corners I used it I was confused because I felt like I was still turning my eyeballs to the side of the screen but I wasn't because the apex was in the middle of the screen...

I also really like the FFB... a bit strong at 100% sometimes, especially becuase I spend a lot of time with one hand on the shifter and one on the wheel for complex spots and that's a lot of work for one arm to keep up with... but I really feel when I am going to lose control and what the car is doing and the punch from the shifting feels better than any other game I can think of...

I got the PC version of this on sale waiting for me to build a decent gaming rig but the PS3 version is carying me through very nicely for now. I wish the graphics were a bit better and the frame rate a little more solid but it's still very playable and the meat of the game keeps impressing me. This is also the first game I feel really benefits from that horrid trumotino 120hz thing on my TV. I basically have that off for pretty much everything, but with this game it gave the driving a really nice fluid feeling and doesn't add enough lag for me to really detect so I am very happy with it.

SMS should really have released it in this condition... as it is right now, I think it's a damn fine experience!

Gotta say I was HATER in the beginning but now after the first couple patches, getting my GT2 dialed in, THIS GAME IS A BLAST!

Apart from the sub-par graphics (ps3), FF bugs (have to reset race all the time)..

So I discovered something that really impressed me. Yesterday I was doing some practice laps around Riviera to get the layout down before switching it to night. I happened to crash into one set of bails and one landed right on top and stayed there.

The impressive thing is that when I pressed the gas I could hear the engine revving but the car wasn't accelerating like normal, much like a car under load would in real life. Was rather impressed that the physics engine could do that. It also correctly showed the added weight on the suspension.

(In case you were wondering I do TT runs with damage off)

Just noticed another nice touch: when you lap the AI, they politely move over to let you pass, just like in a real race! The AI is absolutely fantastic in this game.

Never lapped the AI but, nice to know 👍

Yeah.. it happened in the first endurance on Road America. That's a really fast track and with a decent tune you have to brake a lot less than the AI. I think I lapped them around lap 14/20. :)

Love the Autolog feature, not only does it make career more interesting by providing competition, it actually suggests events for you based on what you run, very nice touch. 👍

Same here. Very happy that the PSN is back up and running.

I've also finally started the GT3 races, and I couldn't be happier. This game is good, and Im happy I dropped my prejudice for NFS games and gave it a try.

One of the things I like the most about this game is the fact that the faster the car you choose the harder it gets to beat the AI because they are on faster cars also and it easy to make more mistakes in fast cars... unlike other games where the faster the car the easier the win (even with sloppy driving)

Spotted you in there a couple of time last night :P After playing for a few hours I have to say I'm enjoying this game... Nice and refreshing compared to GT5... Immersion factor is HUGE in this game... and I got use to the physics quite quickly so that only added to the fun. 👍

I tell you what, I found a reason to drive again: Autolog & Time Attack. I don't recall ever having this much fun beating my friend's times at various race tracks (though I'm only interested in the Real world circuits). I wonder what Speedster502 thinks now that I just beat some of his times that he bested my previous ones with :P

Funny thing is, once you get the steering setup properly, it's very easy to switch from GT5 to S2U and vice versa. Played some online laps with a friend in GT5 tonight (muscle cars at Cote d'Azur) and after that some career events in S2U, and it's really easy to pick up either one after the other. Definitely torn between the two. I suspect this one will not make it's way into my 'games I no longer play' cabinet for quite a while. ;)

Now if only the PSN Store comes back up so I can redeem the online pass and LE content (and get the Legends DLC). 👍

That's what I'm waiting for...
About the autolog it is really a nice feature, improved from Shift 1, where we can even see the best by region, so even if, like myself, one can't battle for the World record at least we can aim for the "Regional Cup".;)

Yes I could see that you have a couple of records :ouch:... Im beggining to think that it wasnt very smart on my behalf to add you to my Autolog friends list :indiff:

Just kidding :) ;)

Now You have plenty of off line action going Your way.;)
Saw RomKnight well classified in some regional records also, well done.👍

I really like the menu music, it sets the mood for me, it keeps me relaxed and its quite bearable to listen to over and over again without having to resort to the music on my 360 like in other games. (im being serious by the way).

@arvore

Thanks but I don't think they'll stick for too long because I know I could do better.

Do I have you on my friends list yet? I am asking but I think I'll regret this :D :D :D

@notsofast

I used to have it on minimum level. It as calming but after a while (read weeks) I turned it off.

So if he isnt your friend how could you tell he had regional records? and can you see what kind of car the world recordist used without being his friend?

Thanks to you I just got today my first regional record :D 👍

Dude... You're fast! I really can't get near your times... I blame the controller, ofcourse! :sly:

He and Arvore are very fast so much that - I was struggling with the AI on medium on some events and now I had to put it on hard and they no longer put up a fight :dunce: I even placed my first ever regional record today because of those two :D though Im sure it wont last long :nervous:
