Good to hear the physics are ok. They look pretty unrealistic from the videos but its a different story when you actually play i guess.
I was thinking the same about the wide stages. WRC is all about the tight roads and getting close to walls/trees/rocks etc so hopefully not all the stages are like this. The stages are the real life ones are they not?
The stages are only based on the real life locations, they are not direct copies of actual real life stages.
Anyway, I Just got this downloaded at the weekend, and after taking an age to figure out how best to set up the Fanatec PWTS,as in that you actually seem to have to turn off the vibration setting from the ingame menu to get the wheel free enough to play the game without needing to be Mr Universe to turn the wheel, but once sorted, it actually plays and feels rather good.
The graphics aren't that great at all if im honest, from the bonnet and in car views at least, anything beyond twenty feet in front of your car is a blur fest as the sharpness/ definition doesnt come into play until it reaches this point, and is a bit off a let down in the overall experience visually.
As for the width of the stages, The Finland stage while being rated in game as 3 out of 5 difficulty is for the most part pretty fast and freeflowing but the road width does vary constantly throughout the stage and when trying on Max difficulty to get fastest times requires precision driving.
The quickest route on this fast stage is quite narrow, although there is a fair amount that you can go off the road, running through the flora is not the fastest route.
The Jordan stage however is rated as 5 out of 5 for difficulty and on the whole is much much tighter, far more technical and filled with more hazards.
As for the sounds, The Co driver does love to slag you off, if your way off pace or having a crash fest, and it is best to set his calls to at least the Advanced setting to make good use of the information he provides.
I played with headphones and found the engine noise slightly too quiet at times to fully hear what it was doing clearly at all times, and there doesnt appear to be an option to increase it.
Despite all this i easily whiled away 3 hours of a sunday afternoon trying to better my times.
With the wheel finally set and game on max difficulty with no aids you get a really good feel for the handling and the weight of your ride, getting your scandanavian flicks going feels very satisfying.
You can tweak the cars handling to the stage and your driving style with a few sliders from the pre stage area and although there are only about 8 settings to play with each seems to have a feelable affect to the way the car handles even with only the most subtle adjustments.
Overall despite the fact that its a bit rough visually, I got quite a good feel with the demo, its just a shame the car selection seems very limitied with the official WRC lineup these days, and would have hoped to have had a good few cars from years gone bye to mix it up a bit.
Although i will be waiting for the PS3 and PC Demo before making a final decision on the title, as im sure the wheels will be implemented better on the more open platforms, i will definately be looking to pick this up and add to the collection.
