Right exactly but that is what you have to keep in mind while compairing. But let's wait and see, Mercedes is having an image change, take a look at the new slk, sl, c klasse and best example the sls which is actually a pretty fast on track.
Another point to that is the change in engine doctrine, for years Bmw ran on atmo engines but are switching to biturbo, while AMG useb merc engines, augmented the Bore and put a compressor on top of it. But now they seem to turn toward atmo engines.

They are? I don't think they're changing at all. The SLS isn't much if any better than the old SLR on the track, the C series is there cause they want younger buyers.

The RS, M3, and 120 are all pictured in the same driveway. Obviously that isn't proof, but it's good enough to assume the same person took the pictures. The Renault isn't pictured there though. None of the cars are pictured together either, which I don't think is a problem because people over yonder don't typically own that many cars at one time.

Not fully sure to be honest, though I am starting to think he has mixed up the E46 and the E36, as he mentioned an SMG and 19 inch wheels, neither were ever offered on the E36 that I am aware of.

Regular M3 was rated at 333hp, the performance package was more of a visual/handling package with some bits from the CSL.
