Old GT features that should return

Yes there are already manufacturer specific events in A-Spec and seasonals so there's no need to put new ones in dealership instead of seasonals.

However more manufacturer races would be good.

Dang...now that you mention it, we do have quite a few already. And I can't believe I forgot about the one-make races you can do in practice. :guilty:

NO!

In GT2 you had to buy a car then race mod it which will cost 100,000cr for a good car then you win and get 10,000 back.

Waste of credits and it is hard as it is to get money without grinding.

Also GT1 had a boost controller.

Manfacturer events were done a lot better in GT4. Just saying.

Well, I guess another feature that I would like to see is the event generator from GT2. I forgot how it worked though.

O_o I had a N64 rather than the PS1 so I missed out on much of GT2. Event generator sounds cool.

Spot Race! Oh, spot race. (GT1)

Like Aspec Model Race, except without the same model. It already exists on My Tracks in GT Life, so how about making it have XP/Credit Rewards on Practice.

Didn't GT4 allow you to have an actual track day too? That would be fun. With a large amount of different vehicles all driving around the track.

I've always cursed the lack of qualifying especially before I figured how to tune a bit.

I know there's remote racing and you can create races in your online lobby but an event generator would be handy for poor folk like me with a stone age internet connection.

Probably gonna sound like a plank for saying this but I never use practice and do most of my tweaking between races so data logger would be handy after a race. Even just a display of your lap times after the race, so you don't have to go through the replays to see if your lap times are improving or consistent.

Manufacturer races

I'm sure the majority of people don't bother reading the whole thread before posting.

The Manufacturer races are there. Ferrari seasonal, Lupo Cup race and Civic seasonal races to name a few. Sure some more would be nice but I'm sure they'll come in time.

I've always cursed the lack of qualifying especially before I figured how to tune a bit.

Qualifying is something I sorely miss. It added so much more to the championships and if it wasn't up your alley it could be skipped.

From my old post on this subject, just for the sake of thread.

Notice I did not included option to speed up the B-Spec races although it existed in GT4. I personally and subjectively find real-time B-Spec of GT5 the only good way to go since I actually find it a standalone real-time management mode with AI-behavior-development and not a way to quickly make money or easily finish endurances. So, when I mentioned B-Spec driver in GT4 description below, intention is to have him jump-in and drive his portion in the real-time.

So, it goes something like this:

Gran Turismo 1
- separate music tunes for all segments of the game (including dealerships)
- laptimes and records tracked throughout the game
- scrollable list with all laptimes after the race
- strict restrictions for races
- qualifying option for all races (non-dependable of the type) with small Cr prizes for pole
- SS11 with underpass
- GUI shortcuts
- 1-400, 1-1000, max speed tests on Test Track
- Memory Card Battle :D (2P races should be called like that for nostalgia reason)
- single-screen replay for 2P races (abandoned in favor of split-screen replay from GT4 onwards)

Gran Turismo 2
- greatest Time-Trial options ever (sector monitoring, 3 types of ghosts, etc..)
- best Race Analysis tool in the series
- ability to rearrange cars through Garage
- Tahiti, Midfield, Red Rock Valley, Rome, Rome Night, Apricot Hill, Grundenwald, Seattle, rally tracks..
- monitoring and tracking highest speed per venue
- Event Creator tool
- restricted career separated through "GT World" and "Special Event" races
- separated Arcade mode with Unlocks
- skip-a-lap option in Replay

Gran Turismo 3
- real-time mileage-monitor on HUD
- Time Trial Arcade races with predetermined conditions
- Complex String, SS11 with overpass
- when Original Tracks are raced in Reverse-configuration the lightning (time of day) changes
- Action (Dive) Music Replay

GT Concept: Tokyo-Geneva
> no real details except for the PodRace for lulz ;)
- oh yeah, animated leafs on Autumn Ring track

Gran Turismo 4: Prologue
- Coffee Break tests
- License Tests structured with skill-tests
- aerodynamic/engine stall effect in high speeds

Gran Turismo 4
- stock-version of cars is unlocked for usage in Arcade/LAN multiplayer when bought in Dealerships/obtained through Prizes
- complex career with World Map
- Dealership Races
- LAN option
- old-school versions of real-life tracks, Motegi, Seoul, Hong Kong, Paris, Cathedral Rocks, El Capitan, Costa di Amalfi, Citta di Aria, Driving Park..
- interchangeable position with B-Spec driver through pits for Endurance races

GT5: Prologue
- leaderboards
- official matchmaking with predetermined entry-requirements
- animated pre-race garage sequences for particular car/track

GTPSP
- simple yet great Event Generator

+ all License tests were non-assisted in all GT games prior to GT5 > in GT5 many of the License tests/Special Event races have SRF mandatory enabled > should be changed

BTW I probably forgot something in lists above, but those are details I could remember on the fly, without booting old games separately. If I did, I presume lists would be even longer.

I enjoyed the Track day option in GT4, sometimes I don't feel like racing, I just want to do laps around a given track with other cars doing the same.

The ability to delete single lap times from the leaderboard(GT4).

I get fed up when I want to set a car up and I do a lap, then I change something and do a lap, then I change someting else and do a lap. By then, I already have 3 timed laps on my leaderboard, pushing other previous times from other cars, off the table. Before I know it, the table consist of lap times of one car only.

To try to get round this, I have to pick a track that normally wouldn't be one of my favourites for fear of making a mess of the leaderboard. Either that or, make sure I turn the time red at some point to stop the time from being clocked.

For me, it's as important as the settings sheet is. I want to be able to set a time, change something and if I beat the time, delete the old one and thereby, keep my leaderboards organised.

13. Qualifying ~GT3

I'd change that to GT1, as it did it properly compared to how it was implemented in GT3.

And i second pretty much everything in amar212's post. :D

YES! Sometimes, I'll make like a "theme" leaderboard, where like, I'll pick a track with an empty leaderboard, and do hotlaps with all my touring cars, or all my super cars, or all of my FF cars, or something like that.

And then, I'll want to do like a baseline lap with a FGT or something, and it adds a new entry every time I make a setting adjustment! WTF

I'd also say that I miss the loading screen from GT5P, simple music playing with a list of all of the cars you're going to face off against. Also from Prologue, 16 car fields. It seems that GT is filled with 12 car fields in most cases. In fact the last time I raced 15 other competitors offline was when I was doing an Arcade Go-Kart race.

Off topic (slightly): I know it's not a GT game but Sega GT 2002 on the Xbox had a really neat feature that allowed you to set up a race and you could completely pick what kinds of cars you were up against. It also had a "Name your price" feature for when you went to sell a car. Granted the higher the price, the less likely your car was going to be bought quickly if at all.

List of past Gran Turismo features

3. Switch between A-Spec and B-Spec in pit stops ~GT4
4. Remove ALL stats in B-Spec Full View ~GT4
5. Up/Down on D-pad switching between cars in replays and live B-Spec ~GT3/4

19. Event generator* ~GT2

I miss the ability to switch to B-spec driver. PD wasted the potential of B-spec of GT5 by removing that. Being able to have your B-spec driver(s) as your teammate after spending time training them would be amazing.

The same goes for the easier navigating between cars while watching replays and event generator. I would also add Season editor and the ability to pick and choose the cars you want to race against. Having to race against muscle cars while driving a SuperGT GT300 cars is plain idiotic.

I would be very happy to see the 'keep current' option for changing tyres during a pitstop. For any FWD it would be ideal to have that option available, and in fact without it I feel time is being left on the table with many cars. It's a shame some of these great ideas were not included in GT5.

Now THAT is how you make a relevant post. Wow. 👍 x 420

.

I might be going mad but does anyone remember holding R2 or L2 to force staying in a gear and not change up when using auto gears? Might be GT2 or 3.
Completely pointless but I always thought I got a mph or two by redlining each gear.

The menu interface of GT4, I loved how car dealerships that were all from a specific country had their own flag and I just had to press X over on their respective icons to go to the dealerships for that country.

I think AMAR nailed it.

My only additions are:

-The cars we lost: Auto Union, Motor Carriage, etc.
-Races as challenging as the Vitz race at SSR11
-BTTC

Wasn't this in GT4 too?

I also remember being able to shift up/down when in auto (like a semi-manual gearbox) in one version of GT; or am I just making that up? Have to get the old games out now and see!

Not exactly a in-game related feature, but does anyone miss the big secondary booklets that came with the first Gran Turismo? Also I miss the Model T and Daimler Motor Wagon from Gran Turismo 4, they were pretty to look at.
