Can't we all just agree that if SMS put the proper time into the game like they should have, it would have been alot better. I say we make a thread that asks SMS to spend more time with the next game and the cars they're putting in it. And actually use real true to life data in the game, instad of trying to please the minority of gamers who like arcade games. Sure some cars are hard to handle, but most of them don't fishtail at the slightest touch of throttle. They just need to take their time and work at the next shift diligently. And for goodness sake make the game into what its supose to be,the next GTR, but with customization.

Wait... You must be talking about GT5, not Shift 2? Now *that* is a massively underwhelming game that doesn't live up to all the hype and promises.

Also, you are exceptionally mistaken about what the minority of gamers want and what the majority wants if you think most people prefer realistic sim driving over a fast, fun and well thought-through game.

Ugh. Why do I keep reading this ridiculous thread? It's like a bad Soap Opera mixed w/ a fatal car accident. I just...can't...look...away.

This is totally off topic but reading the last few posts there is one simple solution IMO. Ditch EA.... If SMS had 100% say in what went into the game and how its developed it would be an awesome game.... The game aspects are there... Its only the driving physics that disappoint at times... and I believe that is due to EA sticking their nose in all aspects of the game.

EA are the company putting all the money behind the series, They are the one company that have gave SMS a huge platform to show the world what they can do.....what are SMS going to do without EA? Go back to a niche market in Hardcore sims on the PC? Does SMS even want to do that?

They'll take their coding with them to Activision. Eutechnix owns the NASCAR The Game License, not Activision. Granted, I am not a fan of Activision, they destroy franchises just like EA does. EA is not the only distributor in gaming.

Will they? I doubt it.

Exactly.

Comparing the PC version to GT5...

GT5 wins that too.

PC version takes a ridiculously ballsy computer to run correctly, in my case the PC version looks worse than GTL/GTR2/rFactor/NFSPS/Shift 1/etc. Hell, NFS Porsche 2000/Unleashed doesn't make my eyes bleed as much.

Edit: Damn, just actually saw the first post. Looks reasonably poor considering the power needed IMO.

I disagree. Car models in GT5 > Anything that pc shift 2 can do, but everything else looks better in Shift 2 on the pc.

It does not require a powerful computer to run, I have an Athlon FX60, 2gb DDR1 ram, Radeon HD3870 card. That there is a 2006-2007 era computer and it runs Shift 2 fine while looking a lot better than GT5, for me Shift 2 was one of the best looking racing games I have ever seen, it ran smoother than F1 2010.

Apart from the cars GT5 premiums do look a lot better.

I agree GT5 is a underwhelming game, but considering what SMS has done in 2 years imagine what they could do if they had as much time as the developers of GT5. I also didn't say Shift 2 was underwhelming, i was just saying it could have been a better game if they would took more time at developing the cars and physics. And ur right about the arcade gamers I was wrong, but I think SMS should consider making a full blown sim out of Shift, it would be as lethal as full blown aids lol(if u get my joke).

So your comp is on paper worse than mine aside from the graphics card (4650 here) yet runs it better eh? Hmm, something must be broken as hell on my comp then... Oh, wait, other games wind up looking nicer with better framerates (I get slowdown on plenty of tracks in Shift 2 on medium settings and amazingly low resolution... Did I mention interior detail being linked directly to car body detail? Yeahhhhhhhh do not want).

As for the graphics themselves... It looks like a game rather than the real world. GT5 is perhaps a bit too clinical but Shift 2 overdoes everything in my opinion...

People stop arguing and start showing some side by side pictures for comparison. I want to see the difference's between the GT5 premium cars and Shift 2's PC cars.

ROFl so you want to compare PS3 pictures with PC pictures? Are you legally retarded?
GT5's premium car's will still outdo the shift pc pictures without a problem but why compare PC with PS3 when there is a PS3 vs PS3 comparison availiable ???

Shift 2 is well known to look bad on the PS3, but with the PC there is no compromise. GT5 premiums cars are simply modeled with more care and detail so they will look better no matter how much you pump the graphics on the PC.

I had the car detail set to max, AA turned off in the game but forced on 2X with catalyst control centre, along with adaptive AA set on quality. Smoothvision HD AF set on 2Xm, mipmap detail set fully to quality. Resolution set to 1680x1050 in windowed mode. Fps between 25-40 ish with no slowdown issues. Though i did have issues with driver compatibility causing crashes. Updating to the new drivers caused MASSIVE drops in fps, down to maybe 10fps and also texture issues.. The latest catalyst drivers (11.3?) ruined it.

I suggest you try the 10.10 drivers if you have these issues.

You answered your own question. Now how about those pictures?

No, even in-game, GT5 premium cars are the tits. NFS graphics are nice but not even close to GT5. Although that is cute that you compare a $2000 computer system to a $300 PS3.

Actually you need about 650€ and not 2000€ to buy a PC like that, that's why I'll never buy a console again, the more years, the more the price will drop. When a PC like that will cost around 400 € there will be absolutely no point to buy a PS3 or even a brand new 550€ PS4 when the time will come. And NO guys, ingame mode Shift2 on PC destroy that tiny PS3 system, it's up to you recognyze it, don't be blind or fanboy. GT5 premium cars have lot of poligons but what about shadows? Resolution? Track details? No way people simply no way. The future of racing games = PC, better graphic, better hardware support, mods, skins, add on cars, add on tracks...

GT5's premium car models are a long way ahead of Shift 2 or any other game on the market. For reference, check out the GT5 Photomode forums. There are some incredible photos in there :)

Photomode is a completely different story from in game mode's graphic. Come on...

Actually.. no. My experience with PC gaming is that:
- you're always fiddling with drivers and settings
- if you want to play up-to-date games, devs force you to keep buying new graphics cards (with the same pricetag as a PS3) every few months

Man what have you been smoking, my computer is years old and is for one much more powerful than a PS3 and secondly, I have yet to have any issues running the latest games smoothly with nice quality settings, with that said I didnt have much luck with Shift 2 driver compatibility, but then neither did the console guys, a lot of people complaining about the game freezing up.

Back in 2006-2007 ish, Oblivion and Crysis were games that required massively powerful computers to run smoothly, however since then games have become much more efficient in optimisation with PC's. Crysis 1 is still one of the highest computer sucking games.

Perfect example is Crysis 2 which looks amazing, higher quality visuals than the first game while running much much smoother (higher FPS).

So no you really do not need to update your computer often, mine is old and runs everything beautifully, not at the highest settings but default settings in any PC game is on a completely different level to what you see in a console game.

Not all shots are from photomode hahah and man GT5 is miles away and they should be since they spent so much time modeling the damn things. In terms of shift 2 from ps3...GT5 is miles away, even that slr pic at the front page was total crap and that's supposedly pc. The higher end pcs might make it look a little sharper or whatever but then that makes you think, what would GT5 look like on pc (mind is blown)

 I cant even imagine, i wish PD will do some kind of demo on PC to show people what they are capable of. Maybe at E3? one can dream.

The technology move on every year and the developers request more hardaware specs even in console world, (GT5 jigged shadows , S2U not perfect frame rate) GT5 is miles away in terms of.. nothing. Period. The PS3 is like a Fiat 500 at the moment. If PD want to compete they need a PC version but this will never happen because, you know they have a contract with Sony and lot of people bought a PS3 just for GT5. Anyway I'll no longer talk with fanboys because it's simply a waste of time, keep thinking GT5 has the ultimate graphic.. meanwhile some PC users are playing games at 1900x1200 resolution :sly: I'm playing GT5 (and trying to enjoy the game) but I'm not crazy to state: "GT5 has the best graphic even compared to PC games" it doesn't make any sense come on. Open up your mind you don't belong to developers or PR marketing.

@FLIGHT50

If the physics in GT5 and Shift 2 are equal, please explain to me why they don't play the same. Same physics should come pretty close to same gameplay, just sayin'.

Apparently you failed to read what was in parenthesis. Read between the lines, this means; It boils down to your preference. I can't say one is better than the other because it depends on your skill level and what you want out of your car. If you want a challenge and push your car to its limits, S2U is better suited. If you want a car that sticks to the road and doesn't challenge your every move to defend your position, with you probably like GT5. Once you pass another car in GT5, 9 times out of ten that car will not pass you unless you slow down or wreck. In S2U you are constantly on your guard.

GT has been around for more than a decade, they have established a physics system. Give SMS the same amount of time under the same franchise tag and I bet it will improve just like GT has over the years. There is the thing called a patch out there for fix the undesired ya know.

They did SHINE when they were in this market... And its just a pity a money hungry company like EA, that only cares about sales and appealling to wide audiences is bringing the money to the table... I just really believe that if SMS had access to the same amount of money as they do now without EA there... The game would seriously knock our sox off... So don't see this as me slagging S2U... thats not the case...

Well one thing in Shifts cars is miles away from GT5 cars - the wheels actualy are linked to an axis when you see the car from underneath.
So to me Shift cars are more realistic that GT5 with those black donuts with no hole they call wheels (when seing from the inside)

Proof the game is poorly done. The cars don't touch the ground, the shadows are not squared and the car is green.

And because some people can't see a joke, it is :P

Great pic 👍

Yeah, no wonder people complain about the cars having a floaty feeling!

Well done on the humor, these forums could use a lot more of it.

Indeed! The hockey puck, floating wheels of GT5 are hideous! Also notice the double shadows beneath the car, not so noticeable here but much more noticeable in the photos from this thread!

That's why I would take Shift 2 graphics over GT5 graphics anytime! GT5 may have better (I doubt it) modeling in cars, higher screen resolution in PS3 (720p vs 'almost' 1080p) but there are so many bugs and omissions in GT5 graphics that break the immersion, like the hockey puck wheels, flickering shadows, bad smoke effects, lack of windshield reflection in interior view, etc.

I haven't seen such an immersion breaking bug or omission in Shift 2 graphics and in my opinion (even though there are elements of Shift 2 graphics that are a bit worse than GT5) as a whole Shift 2 looks much better and is more convincing. Most importantly Shift 2 looks much better in motion and during gameplay! 👍

By the way, great Shift 2 photos! 👍

When do you ever get to see that? It has to be the least significant difference in graphics.
