On par with GT5 premium cars? sure!

The road reflections in GT5 also don't help. Drive OVER a yellow/white line on the road, then watch it reflect on the side of the car (chase cam), hmmm...

Shift 2's lighting may not look as 'pristine' as GT5, but at least everything is accurately done :)

When do you ever get to see that? It has to be the least significant difference in graphics.

Thats your opinion and your entitled to it but IMO it makes a big difference in the visual department and especialy in photomode... when I saw that it was one of those WTF moments...

And to think that they spend a lot of months making a premium car and couldnt be bothered to spend one more day doing the wheels properly (one wheel and them copy and mirror the others)

Being PD, I am sure they wouldn't just copy and mirror the wheels, they would model each wheel individually from scratch, then meticulously model the valve cap! All in about 2 weeks (at least) per wheel! And they still wouldn't bother to model the mechanical parts of the car (so when the car is damaged you would see the engine and not the road), or proper damage (instead of melting ice-cream 'damage'), or broken glass (instead of floating, indestructible lights, cause you know, accidents happen in racing) and so on and so forth! :D

But hey, have you seen the gtplanet frontpage? They just needed two more years... :lol:

In two years we'll have Shift 3, possibly Forza 5, which will both be incredible by the way they're progressing, and Kaz thinks that would be a good time to have GT5 finished! It would need an entirely new physics engine and tyre model my then to even start competing, which I hope they're already hard at work on for GT6.

And F1 2013 probably. And Dirt 4 or 5. And whatever Eutechnyx decides they're going to make next. And probably another WRC game. And I'm sure there's more that I'm missing, but that's all I can think of as far as racers that at least try and take themselves seriously.

And in all those games, you can see the progression in each installment. Graphically, as well as in other areas. We're having a decent debate about whether GT5 is the best looking right now. In two years, I suspect GT5 won't be looking very flash at all.

<off topic>

It's certainly possible to have Shift 3 in two years and (if Shift 2 has good sales like Shift had) I am sure it's something EA would want.

I really like the Shift formula and I would like to see more games in the franchise. In my opinion Shift mixes realistic handling, exciting racing and 'casual' packaging so that you can have a quick blast and have fun, yet it has much depth (like when you want to improve your car by tuning) so that you can enjoy it for a long time. That's why I am not interested in rfactor (downloading mods, installing them, fiddling with files, etc) or iRacing (being part of an online championship with strict rules that in my opinion sounds more like a full-on profession). Also Shift 2 plays very good on consoles and right now I am not interested on investing in a PC gaming rig that I would have to upgrade constantly.

On the nogripracing.com forums there is a discussion about having a 'community' funded racing game developed by SMS. This makes in my opinion Shift's future uncertain. Also this 'community' may steer the game to an rfactor (not a complete game, constant mod-hunting) or an iRacing (full-on job) clone, that would run only on the most powerful PCs! :scared:

Anyway, I really hope we will see Shift 3, but Shift 2 is so great that I am in no rush. :D

Looking at those pics, shift2 is definitely not on par with GT5 premiums, but I would give up premiums any day if all the cars on GT5 looked as good as shift2's.

*This is the closest thread to graphics in general I could fine for Shift 2*

I do not have a picture to show it but if found a somewhat big error in Shift 2. I did a 20 lap race on Hazytown Eight. I did the race, but I was noticing something odd but I couldnt figure it out. I slowed down and found what it was. In the first turn, several layers of skidmarks, are not on the track but FLOATING in mid air. I know there are other issues in game but this can be added to the list of those things. I mean who lets that kind of an error pass Q/A???? The more you read about this game it just seems it was rushed out just to make EA happy, not to please the players. (slim ps3 with current FW and 1.02 update to S2U.)
