ENERGIYA's got a lot faster since he gave up the RL. Now if I can just persuade him to take up the wheel, maybe I'll be able to keep up with him...

Talking of which: has anyone seen RS recently?

Then maybe you should have not told me to turn off RL, you have had plenty of wins against me, remember the early days, you were kicking my ass.

And RS has vanished

OK, it now seems like ENERGIYA & myself are the only people playing FC online on the entire planet! It's like Eutechnyx made us our own private game!

We had a few races in the 512M - wow - hard car to drive consistently! We both managed to put in top 10 times at Mugello after about 30 minutes of racing, but we were off the track on a regular basis, & there's obviously a lot more time to be gained with a single, perfect lap.

Anyone (else) interested in racing the 512M this weekend? Let's try & set up a time... :)

My wife and I both suffered a mild case of food poisoning Thursday night. :ill::crazy: So I haven't felt up to playing. But I'd be happy to do a 512M run this weekend.

Ironically, this afternoon at 2:30 EST, the Grand Am series is running at VIR. The Daytona Prototypes may be the ugliest cars on the planet but in size and performance they may indeed be close to the 512M. So this might be a good track to start...or...maybe end with . :scared:

I would suggest 6:30 EST (11:30 GMT) if anybody else would like to join.

I've been watching the Grand Am Event. It seems like part of the track has a different configuration compared to VIR in Ferrari Challenge (unless part of it has been re-profiled). The Daytona protoytypes are running in the 1:45-1:47 range.

Edit: Indeed, the track in Ferrari Challenge is only the "North Course" where as Grand Am runs the full course.

Biggles--I'm a little bit tied up myself at the moment. If you're not online in the next few minutes I'll put it off until 8:00 pm EST. Only one other person on my friend list is on-line so hopefully more people will be on-line later.

More 512M racing today?

Had fun yesterday with jj & ENERGIYA. We all made big improvements with our times with this very tricky car. I managed to set a fastest lap time at Mugello

... well, fastest except for Zedux, who after just a few laps was able to post a time more than 1 sec faster than me. :ouch:

Are you sure of that, i pretty sure you set 1:45:xx & I got 1:44:xx at MUGELLO

I guess this weekend is a lesson in, "Be careful what you wish for". On Saturday I opened a 512M lobby at Monza in anticipation of Biggles and perhaps a few others who would care to join. (I was about 10 minutes early). Within 30 seconds I had two unknown players join and within a minute they were both furiously toggling their ready/not-ready status. I sent both of them a quick PSN to explain that I was waiting for few other people and if they would mind to wait for another few minutes.

One left immediately and did not return. The other waited and sent several messages back asking various questions about the game. During that time, two more players entered but left again within 10-15 seconds. Finally I decided it wouldn't hurt to have a quick round with this fellow, who had been very patient, so off we went. He received a penalty at the first chicane. I knew he would be far behind and I was passing the 2nd lesmo before I checked his track position. I saw at that point he was off the track at the Curva Grande. For a moment I wondered if he was quitting the lobby but then I saw he was getting back on. In a five minute race I lapped him twice. I give him lots of credit for sticking it out. Once back in the lobby, he immediately sent me a slew of messages:

- turn on assists
- SC should be set to at least 4
- no, 3 is ok
- change car to FXX
- but TC to max

I felt like I was having an exchange with a control tower. I was happy somebody new had joined the lobby but it was a rather bitter sweet moment. In sympathy, I turned all assists on max, including the racing line and it was during this time that Biggles entered.

The next round was a bust with the lobby collapsing on the first lap. Both players rejoined and we set off again. I'm afraid Biggles got the worst of that round. I was safe up front but several times I saw both cars overlapping each other on the track map and thought the worst. If anything, Biggles is quicker and more consistent than I am and he should have had little difficulty making his way around this fellow. But sometimes cars which are driven wildly and out of control are tricky to pass.

I know Biggles may have a slightly different view on this fellow's intentions but I don't think any of his shenanigans were in any way intentional. After that round he quit, opened his own (private) 512M lobby and sent me an invite. I said goodbye to the newcomer, considered for an instant whether to send him some encouragement (...keep practicing...) but didn't want the earnest thoughts to be misconstrued as sarcastic or patronizing, so I didn't.

The fact is, our own races with the 512M later than evening were nothing to be proud of.

Yesterday I logged on to see Hun200kmh online and asked him if he was interested in a quick race. He told me he was waiting for somebody new to the game and was opening a 348 lobby and asked if I would like to join. Within a few minutes, that lobby at swelled to 6 people. The person Mario was waiting for never showed up. But since so many had joined, and it appeared more may join, he started the race.

Starting a race a Monza with unkown players is always a challenge in how you approach the first chicane. If I'm upfront, I always have the desire (driven by fear) to cut it gently because I know others do and if you don't, it's going to be a crash fest. If you're in the back of the field you can approach it normally. I started mid field. I braked for the chicane. Immediately other cars slammed into me left and right. I guess it's become the de facto standard just to cut the first chicane. (sigh). At that point I was last.

The racing wasn't too dirty and I ended up finishing in 2nd, about 2 seconds behind the leader. I may have caught him if he wasn't straight lining every time. :) By the time the race ended Hun200kmh quit the lobby. He had initially asked me to create a private lobby. I checked to see what else was opened and was amazed to see that the opened lobbies scrolled off the screen. Granted it was one lobby with the 550GT, one with the 348 and at least 5+ with the 430.

So it looks like there are more people playing this game than I thought. For better or worse. :)

Oh boy, what a mess that was ... :dopey:

My weekend FC review is as follows. Friday night I entered a UKOG lobby, with ukog-geordie and ukog-dyer. They are about to start another championship (this week) with the 550 GT, so that was the chosen car. A car I had never driven before (at least, I don't remember to, and it was still red so it must be true).

First race was in Vallelunga, a track I never race in and with a layout I barely know (but without a clue about braking points and all those litle things practise teaches you about a track) ... so ... I ended a 5 minutes race, after many spins and off-track excursions and ... 30 seconds behind those two guys

Second race was at Mont Tremblant (I felt better, at least this is a track I know) and my pace was very much the same as theirs, I even led the race at asome point but a stupid mistake in the last lap (this is something that curses me) meant I finished 3rd again.

Third race at Hockenheim, a track I know but don't race often. Again, my pace was good, but my odd mistake made me finish in the same position :dopey:

It was a nice experience, the car grew a bit on me, it's something between the 575 GTC and the more "friendly" challenge cars (348, 355, 360, 430), and you can actually do some controlled "drifting" with it. Afterwards Geordie and Dyer invited me to take part in their UKOG championship, I'll have to see the race schedule to know if it will be possible for me.

Saturday I didn't race and yesterday afternoon I found myself unable to enter any lobbies, no matter what (rebooting the modem, log out and in again from PSN, rebooting the PS3, nothing seemed to work). So, I did a bit of offline racing (did the 550 GT Trophy, to know the car a bit better), and then I noticed that a good friend of mine was online and with FC.

I phoned him and he said he was trying the game but having alot of trouble with it (wheel driver, uses a DFP). I explained to him that he had to set the FFB sensitivity and strengh to High and I told him that when he felt comfortable we could try online.

When he PM'ed me saying that he was ready, and had unlocked the 348 Challenge, jjaisli showed up online, so I decided to open a private lobby and invite both. Only ... I forgot to set the lobby to private. And, to my surprise, in seconds the lobby was almost full and my friend was phoning me saying he could not enter (blank lobby).

So, I didn't want to frustrate the many that were in-lobby and started the race. First lap, I was running third after taking it very easy on the first chicanes, when my youngest daughter pressed the "start" button in the controller. I lose control of the car and when I get it back I'm already in the grass and the car starts to spin ... I bet jjaisli - in 4th, I think - thought "whadda hell is he doing !!!!"

Back to last (6th I think) by a long distance, I raced my race until the end, catching up 5th place in the last lap, but with the moron trying to ram me off the road when I got him. I managed to get by anyway.

So I closed thelobby after that race, but since I had urgent matters to attend I left the game altogether. Sorry about that jj :)

Yesterday night I had a few nice races with waynejones, and also with my "newbie" friend, I won some (at last), but against wayne I lost at Spa :ouch: and only won at Mont Tremblant.

For the entire weekend, and apart from the brief "meeting" with jjaisli, I didn't see any of the regulars (Biggles, Energiya, mhm, Piotr, Zedux ... and many more) online.

So, online is alive, but not much. And congratulations, dear reader, if you reached this paragraph, you are a very patient person ;)

I've never experienced the issue of not being able to enter a lobby but there is problem with the way the lobby details are displayed and what's actually happening. It's happened several times where I see a lobby on the list which shows it's participants status as "In Lobby". But when I enter the lobby it's already completed synching and the players are racing. Then, whether it's 5 or 10 or 20 minutes later, that lobby will always continue to show that track and status of 'In Lobby' regardless of what's happening. They players may come or go or switch tracks several times and the display doesn't update. It doesn't disappear or change until the lobby is closed. Refreshing the list doesn't help.

To be honest Mario, I saw you go off but I didn't give it much thought. I was last at that point and coming around the Curva Grande and saw you in close proximity to two other cars. You were speaking Portugese and then you exclaimed something, sort of like, "...whaa...?" and I saw you go off to the left. I didn't think you made contact but thought maybe you just understeered off. (LOL--sorry) But at that point I was just concentrating on my own race. Well, it makes sense now. :)

So one of them tried to block you? I guess it's no worse than the AI. I had my own challenges getting by but nothing so blatant. :)

This was in the race before you joined the lobby. Actually I think we both set faster times last night (well last night in our part of the world!) - but still not fast enough for Zedux!

The 512M is a blast to drive - "all the speed of F1, none of the control"!

After quite a few laps at Mugello, I seem to have found my rhythm on this track - it just seems well suited to the performance of the 512 - doing OK at Spa & Vallelunga also, but some of the other tracks I'm really struggling with. Mont Tremblant, in particular, was a disaster - that first corner complex is just deadly with the 512's suspension. Kudos to ENERGIYA, who was consistently fast on all the tracks - as fast as me on my best tracks & much faster than me on the others. 👍

Well that is a surprise, I just started to race with the 512 & i thought i would struggle with it but it seems i getting the hang of driving it. JUST. lol

Part II of my "Be Careful What You Wish For" theme now continues with a story of enforced stereotypes. All true, but slightly edited.

Last night I didn't see any regulars on-line. I didn't even intend to log on but you know how it goes. So I said to myself, just one quick race. There were two 430 lobbies open at Monza. I sighed and questioned if I really wanted to do this as my finger hovered over the X button. I entered the first lobby and there were three guys racing. I often talk in the lobby but once the race has started I reserve this for quick, race related, information. People who exhibit diarrhea of the mouth the entire race kind of grate on my nerves. But I've never quite understood the need to curse and swear non-stop when people are on-line. It's like a right of passage or something. I know they weren't doing particularly well because they kept complaining about the penalties and how hard the game was. And throughout the race they kept asking how to do different things (such as changing settings, etc). But I figured I'd stick it out and go one round with them.

Once back in the lobby they started to discuss other cars and talk about which cars they had or hadn't unlocked. They decided, after much debate, and considerable swearing, that they all had the 550GT, although this caused a huge uproar and angry argument over the order in which the cars are unlocked. (As we all know, it depends on the manner in which you unlock them). Then there was a side conversation with one of them complaining that a bunch of "Mexicans" had pulled up at the house next door and instead of getting out to ring the bell, the kept honking the horn. (I could in fact audibly hear a horn honking through my ear piece). It took about 5 minutes of back and forth discussion, with the others egging him on, to decide whether he was going to pull out his paint gun and shoot the side of the car. Or something decidedly worse.

For the love of Pete, I just wanted to race. The honking eventually stopped and the conversation then fell on how to change the car to the 550. The three spent several minutes arguing and trying to figure this out. By this point I couldn't take it anymore so I spoke up and said, "Excuse me for interrupting but the game does not allow you change cars from within the lobby. You will have to exit and the host will have to create a new lobby with a different car and the rest of you can then rejoin." There was a stunned silence for 2-3 seconds and finally one said, "Who is that?" The other two mumbled, "It wasn't me". At least two of them then demanded to know who was speaking. I thought it was obvious but I finally said, "This is jjaisli--I'm in the lobby." This was followed by some demands to know how I got in the lobby. Another questioning the length of time I had been sitting there listening. Another, in a confusedly worded question, wanted to know which car I was driving in the race and if I had been the one to hit him. And if so he was going to 'kick my ass'.

I felt sort of like Gandalf in the Hobbit when he was talking to the Trolls. For a moment, I thought about pretending to be one of them and say something to insult the other but quickly thought better of it. I finally decided I wasn't much interested in either staying in the lobby or racing the 550, said goodnight and left the lobby.

I entered the other lobby and the first words I heard were, "Ahh, **** this **** maaaan!" I didn't count the number of times I heard the F-word in this lobby but I'm guessing at least 50 by the end of the race. (It was a 5 minute race mind you). And if it was indeed possible, this conversation was even more inane than the previous:

- This *** is hard man.

- What the ****, ahh man, I got that penalty **** again.

- Turn that **** off man, all that **** does is slow you the **** down.

- This ****'s too hard man, ain't no way this car brakes so bad.

- GT looks way better than this ****.

- What the ****, man, get the **** out of my way.

- Don't talk to me like that man or I'll knock your big ass right off the ******* road.

Anyway, it continued like this pretty much until the end of the race. Once back in the lobby, they swore some more and one said he had to eat something and would be right back. Then he mentioned that, "This guy's gonna' kick your ass, bro". (I assumed he meant me). He then said, "Look at that ****, he's got the "forza", that ***** way faster than your sorry ass." (I assume he was talking about my team name Forza G25, although it's hard to be sure). The other one said, "He ain't gonna do ****, I'll wait for you." And sure enough, I waited, while the lobby was kept open and I could clearly hear both of them were eating: chomp, slurp, munch, munch, etc!!! I couldn't quite tell what it was but it was greasy and dripping because one was complaining that he had to find some napkins.

During this time, a Canadian guy entered the room and starting pressing the ready button. One of them said, "Look at that ****, now there's two of them. One's Canadian the others an am-bul-ance driver or some ****." The Canadian guy left. I did too.

Did I say nobody was playing FC online anymore? I'm sorry I ever posed the question.

I can't stop laughing after reading this !!!!

(to all that never met jjaisli online, he uses a Swiss flag, therefore the "am-bul-ance driver" ............. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL there I go laughing again  )

Funniest post in recent years, I really liked the "Gandalf - Trolls" analogy ! 👍

Wish i could laugh right now but i cant, my PS3 went %$##@$ crazy & then it had a system hard drive re-write. WTF

 Reminds me of my brief escapades into online on Rock Band 2...

Thank god I usually don't bother charging my headset and hence can barely hear any of what anyone says! Doesn't seem like its worth the effort.

Yeah. I think I'm going to have to come up with a new livery to celebrate the title. ;)

The trouble with you jj, is that you go to bed to early. By the time I get online all the rednecks have passed out from drinking too much beer...

Yeah, but jj races with europeans that do not pass out, while you race with "fosters" people before they pass out ! :sly:

Meanwhile, I just finished a very nice, fair and competitive series of 360GT races with a countryman, JoaoPereira_P. I told him about our forum / group of players, maybe he will join. 👍

So long as doesn't carry on about shooting a carload of Spaniards with a paint gun or open a lobby and then start eating while the rest of us are pressing the READY button, please, have him join. ;)

Yo, ambulance driver! You got it all wrong bro! Portuguese are very peaceful, that kind of behaviour is only found in players from 4th world countries! :D

PS - However, some cigarette smoking between races is to be expected

Funny you. You watch your back. If I see smoke, I may call my friends, the Firemen. ;)

Scanning the rooms yesterday evening showed a pretty poor picture.
One race with the F 430 at Paul Ricard and the inevitable Monza, both with assists on.
I was looking for some of the guys from this forum, but none showed up.
Will any of the guys be gentle enough to show up this evening around 20:00 UTC/GMT, which woud be around 9 to 10 PM for the european residents.
If so, we could take some of the lesser used cars, e.g. 250 GTO, Testa Rossa or LM (yes, i´m a fan of this vintage cars:)), also i´m glad to run any car with a bunch of experienced racers.
Maybe this evening some real race action comes alive.;)

Hi Flinx

Unfortunately, during the week, it's really impossible for me to log on earlier than 11:30~00:30 GMT due to my time zone/work schedule.

But I also enjoy driving the 250 trio, as do several of us here, such as Hun200kmh & Biggles. Perhaps we can organize a 250TR event for this weekend?
