Who needs a xbox? I gotta PS3!
I am so frustrated with the online driver duel, it is almost completely populated with bashers! :grumpy:

There is no penalty for crashing your opponent so most of the guys I have raced will just crash me as soon as they can.
I always seem to end up backwards or against the fence when I get crashed!

I don't know what I expected from a game that gives you points for dirty passes & spinning out an opponent but this driver duel is just nuts!

It's a fault with the design of that particular racing championship. When there are only two competitors, anything that you do to slow down your opponent is the same as making yourself go faster. And it's heaps easier to smash into your opponent than it is to drive quickly...

Don't think of it as a racing challenge. Think of it as a destruction derby challenge and it makes much more sense. I'm sure there's lots of people who enjoy it for that.

I've never driven like that so I just guess this is one trophy I will not be getting!

That's my philosophy too... I'm gonna drive my race my way. If I get punted by some 10 year old... yeah, I'll be pissed and yeah I'll probably lose more because of it, but I don't really care much about trophys etc.

I'm just hoping that eventually EA adds a Lobby for more serious racers... although I won't hold my breath.:indiff:

There is already a private lobby?

Finally saw a thread talking about this!
I've tried this Driver Duel mode a few weeks ago and met quite a number of crazy punters. So my method was to manually save the winning results everytime and went to load the game once got lost. That's how I stayed on the competition ladder and challenge or get my revenge back on those punters. :mischievous:

Besides the punters, I found that there're actually some mis-match races I've come across. I was paired up with an Audi R8 LMS but I was given an MC12 GT1 to race with. What a joke! :indiff:

What I also experienced in the driver duel (bar the punters) is that even if you win, if in the post finish screen where the cars are still visible in the background the other car overtakes you, you will lose the race.

Most games offering a 1 on 1 mode result in the punters and dirty players coming out. Why? because they think they're awesome and will do anything to 'prove' that in their eyes by winning.

Which is exactly why there needs to be a penalty system that nail the punters with penalties they can not recover from!!

There are a few problems with introducing such a system, one is the culture clash with the title itself, as they do promote dirty driving as a way of winning. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly to you, and which I'm sure you're aware of, is the difficulty involved in bringing an accurate, firm but fair penalty system that won't penalise accidental contact. If it's to lax, it won't work, if it's to harsh, the dirty drivers will work around it via brake checking and things, to give themselves the upper hand. The only way of getting a fair decision is if there's a human element involved, and that is of course not realistically possible. Getting the game to calculate who caused an accident will be mighty difficult to nail right.

Yes indeed, I forgot to mention this in my previous post, thanks for bringing this up. 👍

I've experienced quite a number of times that if I pull a gap of 5 seconds from the player behind, the screen would show your car leading the race but the race seems to be continued on the other side while an AI is piloting my car in a super slow pace.. which lets the rival to overtake my car again with ease. :ouch:

I've experienced the same problem, but not only in driver duel, but also in normal races. C'mon guys, if the only way you know to get ahead is by bashing your opponents, you shouldn't race. Races (and driver duel) are not destruction derby. It's great fun to have a race with someone quick, but it sucks to knocked out of the track in the first corner.

It is very frustrating when both cars are exactly the same ! I fell the same way about this drivers duel. Like the other post said, think it as a demolition derby run. I like that attitude. Thank you for the new perspective. You can't stop players like this ! It's like trying to change that bad neighbor across the street ! We all have one !

Same here. Did the Driver Duel yesterday for the 1st time & 2nd round i got knocked off. Just do GT & move when they come close, so they can hit the wall. By the way, on London River, people tend to accel straight into the wall after straight agasint the wall, so they can literally wallride the whole corner.

Got to the finals & was racing at Spa & the guy found an interesting cheat.
I was well ahead of him at the final chicane & as I was braking & going thru the chicane he never slowed down & went straight, & HE WON!!
Even though he got a penalty he got far enough ahead of me the game showed him as over 5 seconds ahead so he won!

Same can happen at Brands Hatch

FWIW I treat the duel as warm up to proper no contact racing

Beaten twice? Just press ps button and reset console before it updates the save...

Actually you don't have to do that much to restart your Driver Duel, the only things you need to do is to switch the auto-save to 'OFF', and manually save your winning progress after each winning round. ;) Once you met some real dirty bashers, you could simply go to 'LOAD' and there you go! Revenge time!

Now that I've finally won a championship I have found something good about driver duel!

Since it now starts on the championship level that means the race is on one of the big tracks & uses a fast car, since most of these bashers can't drive a powerful car on a fast track that means I can just drive away from most of the punters & if they can't catch me they can't crash me! :sly:

I must say I also get a perverse pleasure at watching one of these punters flying up behind me to crash me at a corner & changing lanes or braking early so they miss me & just fly off the track!!

It happens in donigton as well, in the chicane after the straight after the blind corner the guy goes straight, cuts the chicane and voilá, 5 secs and a lost in count for the clean driver, someting to avoid this cheat, in V8SS when you're cutting a chicane, the game slows the car down a lot, so you can't take any advantage of that cheat, but it should be perfect, because there is a problem, if you can't make the trajectory right and you go wide in the corner, it happens, and that pisses me off.
and yesterday, in the Tokyo "race track" i didn´t make it to the second corner in both rounds, the punter drove me to the wall and there was no solution... the best way to win the punters is the one already mentioned, big and hard tracks, such as Nurburgring or Spa, and with good cars, if you choose like Dakota club, you get punted easly.Well i don't agree with the last post, the tracks can be big and the cars powerfull, but belive me, the punters always have tricks in there sleeve.
