opinions on the use of 4X4 or SUV's in GT5 prologue or GT5

Having traditional track day cars just simply wont cut it. I want a broader range of cars besides the traditional norm. So performance high-risers of a vehicle will be a good alternative.

The X6 M, X5 and Cayenne Turbo S are great fun in FM3, so adding them to GT5 would be a good move, imo.

I dont really understand where the warm feelings for these cars come from.
Weight and height are not good things in car country!

Cayennes make me think of Usain Bolt after putting on 100 pounds. Potential magic burdened down under loads of lard(metal). (Metaphor: Check!)

In short I dont really need them, but if they are in I will be happy to ignore them.

it's an American thing. when people refer to SUV's, they don't mean a Cayenne, a Touraeg, a subaru forrester (a jacked up estate) an audi Q, a Mercedes RL, etc. what americans mean by an SUV is a Land Rover or a Mercedes Gelandewagen. a huge metal box on wheels where you feel safe and could survive a nuclear strike (the people that run the country over here are still cold-war leftovers)

Ugh, I dreaded the truck event in Beginner League on GT4, and I will not be looking forward to doing it again. But rally SUVs I'm okay with.

Personally I simply want to be able to test to the limits the physics of tall, heavy, maybe even underpowered vehicles. I found the truck event in GT4 fun personally. Too bad there weren't larger and even more unsuitable for racing ones. My favourite was the Dodge Ram 1500. I would have liked diesel models too!

I'd love to see this one by Lamborghini ( LM002 ).:D

As would I. Trucks and SUVs are great fun flinging around a track. I can't wait for the X-Runner! Shame it'll be standard, though. :grumpy:

What I hope to see:

ML 63 AMG (possible)
Q7 V12 TDI (possible)
Cayenne Turbo S (not happening)
X5 M (possible)
X6 M (ugly, but possible)
Grand Cherokee SRT8 (not holding my breath)
Trailblazer SS (not happening)
Range Rover Sport Supercharged (Land Rover was in GT4; probably most likely)
Ram SRT10 (we'll probably only get the plain-jane Ram :yuck:)
Saleen S331 (not happening)
Syclone/Typhoon (not a chance in Hell :boggled:)

I expect all of the trucks/SUVs in GT4 to return as standards. :ouch: I just want one that's premium.

You know, I've been thinking and I don't mind if they don't include many SUVs/trucks. I would instead love it if someone (not necessarily PD) would create a game with only trucks and SUVs, one where you could drive them on-road or off-road and have accurate physics, fairly detailed vehicles, and loads of aftermarket parts from winches to suspension kits. Sorta like 4x4 Evolution but on the PS3.

If you could mod a Dodge Ram to 500 bhp+ in GT4, then why cant you do it in GT5? I would want to have a proper sports truck class for once.

I used to love the Range Rover in Enthusia.

This.....

....is fun. So I have no problem with them in GT5, as long as we have some nice jumps to throw them off.

Scaff

I like occasionally taking an SUV around the track; they're fun just to be working against the obvious limitations. People complain they're "not right" or some such nonsense about taking them to the track, but I see them as very similar to any of the pig-handling muscle cars. And I love the muscle cars. If you wanted to argue about how suited a particular car is for track duty, we'd have no street cars period.

The Forester was great fun in GT2, the Tacoma and Range Stormer both offered some very controllable tail-out antics in GT4. I wouldn't mind getting to belt an X6M around a track, just trying to compare to an M3's time. They also make for some hilarious replays when you'd be racing a friend in some squat little hot hatch, and you've got this giant lumbering sasquatch of a vehicle chomping at it's bumper.

I wouldn't ever ask for a low-speed rock-climbing mode or something though, just because that seems best suited to other games. But this particular class of vehicle is growing every day, it'd be interesting for Kaz to include some of the more stand-out examples :)

(EDIT) Scaff just made me want to hook up the PS2 and do that exact thing when I get home.

Personally, I don't understand fast SUV's, or why anyone would buy them- In real life. Their so bulky and tall that even if it was a "X5 m" or a "Cherokee SRT8", It could never really do much but go in a straight line. My friend bought a Cayenne turbo S, and started bragging about how its faster The cayman, and some of the 911's.. Does that change the fact that it could never take a corner as fast as a 911? Fast SUV's remind me of muscle cars, they're heavy, and people just stick in so much horsepower to say its a good car, hiding the dissapointing chassis, or the weight of the car that breaks the 'curb' (If you get that).Taking this GT, I wouldn't mind seeing them, the tall height could make it fun to drive on (When your not risking your life), and couldn't find a reason why I wouldn't want "More" Features. Hate them in real life, but Wouldn't mind it in the game.

Seems accurate to me.

The beauty of racing games is to try to find quality performance in all machines. Even back in the GT4 forums, I made a thread called "Keep on Truckin'!" years ago regarding trucks in GT4. I still have my Toyota Tacoma in GT4. As I said back then, the Tacoma (with all due respect) is a sports car in a truck body. Trucks and 4x4s and such can be just as fun to race as any proper car. I look at it as an unconditional love of racing and tuning. Would you enjoy racing and tuning an SUV or truck as much as you would a Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano? I think if you're a real fan of racing and tuning in Gran Turismo games, you can appreciate trying to turn ANY machine into a winning racing machine.

What about crossovers like

Infiniti FX50s
Infiniti FX35
Mercedes GLK

Actually I wanna make one of those go as fast as coupes around corners or killing supercars with a big american truck on acceleration!

But no seriously since there is a rally track (Toscana) then why not more 4x4s? We had few in GT4 iirc like Toyota RSC / Mitsubishi Dakar / Infiniti Concept / etc

Just my 2 cents. I love both GT and Forza franchises. 1 thing I did not like about FM3 was the inclusion of SUVs. I don't like them in real life and don't really find them appealing to drive in a racer. With that said, I do appreciate the Nascar truck series (and I hate nascar) and more so the dakar rally trucks like the vw touraeg. Outside of that... Ill pass

Well except for cat n mouse games cuz the weight helps sometimes ;)

I think we can mostly agree on a few more Dakar "cars." I tend to think of them as the ultimate 4x4 machines. We already have had some Dakar Rally Raid cars in GT4. More in GT5 would be nice. The possibility is there for maybe some kind of desert stage to where these Dakar-type machines can really be unshackled.

I've long since said that NASCAR Sprint Cup Cars were only the tip of a small NASCAR iceberg. That "iceberg" would include cars from vehicles from the Nationwide Series and the Crafsman Truck series as well.

There has been no evidence to suggest what I wrote, but if you look at any advertising done in regards to what NASCAR we've had it's always been labeled just that..."NASCAR", which includes multiple forms of racing as a sanctioning body.

Let's hope we get some NASCAR Trucks in. They are a great stepping stone to the more powerful NASCAR cars...hence the reason the series exists in real life.

I'd love to see trucks and SUVs in GT5.

The ones I'd like to see would be the Dodge Ram SRT10, Jeep SRT8, 1998 Shelby Durango, Ford SVT Lightning, Toyota X-Runner, Chevy SSR, Chevy El Camino SS, and all the Dulleys. (racing dulleys would be very fun.) And almost every other truck and SUV.

I'd like to see both "sport" trucks, like the Ram SRT, Jeep SRT, Dakota 5.9 R/T, X-Runner, blah blah.

However, I'd also like a full-fledged off-road mode. I don't mean like rally, I mean like big mud holes, tough forest terrain, hill climbs, blah blah. Give us the ability to upgrade our trucks with correct wheels/tires, lift kits, engine mods, transmissions/diffs, light kits for night wheeling...you know, the works.

I doubt that will ever happen, but damn would it be nice.

I think SUVs would be good, specially for license testing. It makes you far more conscious of your machine's limitations. Also its a challenge.

if they can put rally in teh game than why not 4x4s. im all for it. imagine taking the 4x4s out on your own custom rally track. heaven!

Some modern Rally Raid events are extremely similar to WRC events except the stages are often wider (and sometimes not even that difference exists) If there's no championship in single player, we could muck about with Dakar cars or regular SUVs in Multiplayer, using the track editor to make extra wide Tuscanas. It's a thought! ;)
