4x4 YES (like G 55 or Subaru impreza)
Jeeps YES (like G 55 )
SUVs NO (like audi q7)

i think some people think suvs are like jeeps ,no they arent
Yes for 4x4 and Yes for Jeeps because we will have rally cars and we will have sport cars like subaru and this sport cars have 4x4

suvs no because suvs have nothing to do on a race track and on a rally track
i hope PD dont make suvs

Not argueing these vehicles ( like the Unimog ) aren't interesting to drive in a game but I do think they are not suitable, unlike a lot of SUV's, for GT5.
That's why I created the Unlikely Vehicles thread some time ago to ask anyone suggesting vehicles of a different category they would like to drive and feature in a different game by PD ( like Tourist Trophy ) although that thread somehow turned into a car freakshow......:)

I think most people know the difference.

... because all the sub 80hp econocars and vans that have always been included in GT games have something to do with race tracks, right?

Anyway, unfortunately for you the Suzuki SX4, a small SUV, has been seen in some screenshots. GT4 also included a few 4x4 pick-ups if I recall correctly.

I hope KY includes SUVs ( these are 4x4s in UK ), however i don't want to race a standard Pajero around Brands Hatch ( that is just boring & daft ).A Beemer X5 Le Mans i would try or a Bowler Wildcat maybe.

Ok that's alright with me, if PD make a game dedicated to off road suv/Dakar racers/4x4s & trucks. Then it wouldn't feel like a little add on game.

Diversity, that's what makes GT so good, do you remeber the station wagon cup in GT2? Awesome event ;), Sports Truck Race in GT4? Funny too. If the SUVs get a dedicated championship, it would be awesome, driving a Hummer through the Nurburgring at full speed. :dopey:

Also, Subaru Forester was in GT2, and was a great (and big) car to drive.

Actually 4x4s and Sports Utility Vehicles cross-over. Meaning, all SUVs with 4 wheel drive (As in, pretty much all of them) are also 4x4s. The Audi Q7 is a 4x4.

A Range Rover for example. 7 seats, comfortable on the road. But excellent off-road. The sort of car we want to see.

I'm a little confused by your post 'SUVs have nothing to do on a race track and a rally track'. Aside from the fact a lot of SUVs are designed with off-roading in mind (So they would be useful for rallying), GT has always included cars that wouldn't normally be expected on a race track (Mazda Demio?), and that is what set it apart from it's competitors, which normally focus solely on sports/performance cars.

I wouldn't like to do 20 laps of the Nurb, in a Q7.The tyres & brakes would be shagged, after 3 or 4 laps.I doubt the suspension would take the punishment.

Considering the Q7 was tested on the Ring I'm guessing it could do more then 3 laps before exploding.

One of the selling points of the GT franchise is that it offers a wide variety of vehicles to drive and so I think cars like the Range Rover, VW Touareg and even those performance American trucks like the Ford Lightning and Dodge Ram would be a welcome addition.

I remember driving a Range Rover in Enthusia some years ago and I quite enjoyed it.

I want suv's to be in gt5.
Especially if you can roll cars. If so it would take skill to stop them rolling. :)

Actually if GT5 will be realistic enough, one should be able to roll over most vans and small cars by fitting race tires (and nothing else) and suddenly steering at speed or while going in reverse. But for some reason until now all cars seem glued to the ground. Only in GT1 there was some hint of roll over for certain cars in certain situations (of course, they didn't roll over because of some magical constraints) as far as I remember.

The Q7 is NOT a 4x4.... to start with it doesn't have low range and it has a center diff that doesn't lock. Meaning that it is all wheel drive not four wheel drive.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-wheel_drive

Yep, the Q7 is in no way as good off road as a Land Rover. Also, aren't Range Rover's/Land Rover's 4x4's and not SUV's? An SUV, by definition, is a car that looks like a 4x4 but is designed for the road. A 4x4 is designed primarily for off roading.

SUV ( Sports Utility Vehicle ) is basically just a marketing term coined in the nineties to indeed describe off-road-looking "life-style" vehicles not necessarily capable of doing the off-road stuff many 4x4's were capable of.

Since there's not really a technical description what constitutes an SUV and all sorts of crossover categories have since appeared it could be possible a Range Rover ( although the original concept was created decades before the term SUV became commonplace ) will be considered by most as an SUV although it is very capable off-road as well ( so technically also a 4x4 ).

SUV's are probably both 4x4 as AWD, the technical specification for 4x4 probably being low range and centre diff, etc.
A Range Rover is still an SUV in public perception as it isn't obvious to most it is capable off-road and appears luxurious and upmarket as opposed to a Land Rover perhaps.
So a 4x4 is an objective technical specification, SUV just a marketing term that stuck ( like MPV ) and can describe both 4x4 looking vehicles as well as true 4x4's which happen to look different or upmarket in concept. :)

Whether they include SUV's or proper 4X4's I hope this time round they have a wealth of these cars because it would be great to have a proper race series for them specifically in the game. In GT4 everything was quite patchy (I only remember the Range Stormer concept, Dodge Ram and that Toyota) so you couldnt really use them for much.

As they have become so popular in real life it would be nice to see this trend represented in the game. Many other racing games have done this.

I dont really understand where the warm feelings for these cars come from.
Weight and height are not good things in car country!

Cayennes make me think of Usain Bolt after putting on 100 pounds. Potential magic burdened down under loads of lard(metal). (Metaphor: Check!)

In short I dont really need them, but if they are in I will be happy to ignore them.

^ Um, sorry. Doing this...

SUVs would be great - under conditon that there would also be proper off road tracks. Tracks like Grand canyon in previous versions of GT don't have any bumps, ridges, etc. They are just slippery versions of road tracks with brown textures...

If they only put in top of the range performance models in this catagory everything should be ok. I think people are worried we will end up with slow bad handling boxes but that doesnt have to be the case.

So only 'AMG' level SUV stuff please PD :sly:

You always have the option to ignore the cars included you don't like but GT has always been about variety and offering as many different experiences within the context of the automobile.

I love small lightweight cars with a high power to weight ratio but I also have tons of fun driving an overweight dinosaur or an overpowered hypercar.
There's a time and place for most things car-related in GT, whether it's driving those cars you would love to drive IRL or even the cars you wouldn't be seen dead in IRL.

Some cars may not stir the soul for you, but for someone else it may be a dream come true to experience those vehicles in-game.
Even cars not associated with high-end performance might offer fun, even if the fun contains knowing they're crap or underperforming. :)

Performing or under performing. SUV are ugly, no matter what. Just like UTE´s or pick-ups. I know - each to his own, but I tend to avoid driving cars in a game if I think they are ugly. Cabs and stationwagons go too in my world!

Look at the X6M; performs amazingly, but looks like crap. Much like a Sumowrestler!

That's highly subjective, I think a Ferrari California is pig-ugly although it is great to drive.
Luckily subjective opinions are not a criteria for inclusion, this debate isn't about what may be considered beautiful but whether a certain category is welcomed or not, mainly concentrating on the fact that they're different to drive compared to a normal car IMO.
If we would name all the cars which should be excluded ( or unwanted ) on looks alone we would end up with an anti-wishlist.

We would end up with a Formula One car, and nothing else.

Thank goodness the development team are a little more eclectic than that. I may not hanker after cars like the Daihatsu delivery van or the Dodge Ram Laramie 4x4, but did I have fun with them in GT4? Definitely. Will I have fun with weird/unusual/terrible cars in GT5? Most definitely.

I didn't mean school run offroaders.I'm talking about genuine 4wd 'rigs', e.g. Nissan Patrols, Landy S1, 110 Defender, Landcruiser HJ61 & the little BJ40, Mitsubishi Pajero 2.8td, Range Rover Vogue, Daihatsu Sportrack, Jeep CJ's, Merc G class, Vauxhall Frontera & Isuzu Trooper 3.1td etc.Would have some proper fun going down & along 45 deg inclines, in a rain soaked wood.Coming from a 4x4 family, i think long ( 40+ miles ) offroad trails would be awesome.Hopefully if this is in, the trails vary in how extreme each are made.Meaning driving up an island with two/three 40 deg short, close climbs, that tests ground clearance & axle articulation. After that driving along a 5 mile long, inclined dirt road.Obviously in low gear & diffs locked.Would like the freedom to unlock the diffs too.

But this thread also touches upon SUV's so indeed also school run offroaders or "Chelsea tractors" apart from true 4x4's.
And I doubt it will be implemented quite as comprehensively as you wish it to be, the only off-road tracks will probably be the WRC ones and the fantasy ones created by PD like the ones in GT4.
But you'll never know I guess. :)

Ok if you insist, Audi Q7 V12 TDI please.I do hope 4x4's get included & just thinking about all the modifications & tuning etc, that can be done to both older, in between & new.

Don't get me wrong, although I wouldn't mind SUV's or any category of car for that matter to be included, this thread isn't exclusively for 4x4's ( not my decision, just the nature of this thread ).
Like you I would really like some real off-roaders new and old as it would introduce a new element into the game, both competitive without being racing or rallying ( trials , etc. ) or even just for fun.
Just don't think it is very likely to be included unfortunately ( trials I mean ). :)
