By adding this option it will give the game more flexibility for all race events. I find it bothering that we either get a 3-5 lap race or a 2-24hr race. There is no middle ground for a good 30 minute race session with a chance to pit.

This option would not work with GT5 current AI system. They will need to iron that out in order to make this work. They should still include an endurance section for dedicated events.

Also, by adding more laps your rewards should increase. This will be a big step where PD has to make sure people don't abuse the system.

Please give me your thoughts and vote on the poll.

If the AI is made to be better, and qualifying is added then races should be at a minimum of 5-10 laps to begin with. I do like the idea of adjusting race length beyond what PD sets it at though.

I thank this is a great idea. Credit winnings could also be added in percentages compared to the basic set awards.

Race is six laps long? Add 3 more laps and increase your winnings by 50%

I've wanted race length sliders (adjust desired length) to make everyone happy. Forza 4 races seem to have got shorter than in previous games and this made many unhappy, as they wanted longer races rather than three-lap sprints, but I have also seen folks cry that a ten-minute race is too long. Adjusting, with the game adjusting winnings accordingly, should please everyone.

this is a much needed option. A-spec, arcade, online.

Another very helpful aspect of this option- if it were placed in the pre-race screen after loading. Why not place it in "Course Settings"? It should be easy to allow us to add/subtract laps without the need to exit race/reload the track+cars. Heck, if it takes a few seconds to reconfigure, then give us a loading bar. That's nothing compared to a full reload.

This is a no-brainer, or as PD would describe it: Really freaking difficult. :ouch:

This sounds like a brilliant idea...pleasing those who wish to have short races, and those who like the idea of longer, pit stop races

Only if implemented right. I won't want to be in a 20 lap race if my Ferrari can overtake the rest of the pack in less than one lap, because then it would get extremely boring.

The AI is the key to anything like this, as above with current GT5 AI it's just a matter of getting to the front and how many laps it takes you. There is never any return challenge, it's too easy. So yes, better AI would mean better, longer races.

So don't use your Ferrari.

To be serious however(yes I did understand your comment, or at least I think so), that's the real issue with doing something like this. The very valid counter-argument is that a player who has a tough time beating a race that is 5 laps long could just make it 8 laps long and suddenly have plenty of time to catch the leader. Personally I would love having the races longer as I could race a little less rudely and/or use different cars that can gain on the leaders but just can't gain as fast as other supposedly equal cars. That and I just plain like running longer races, anything less than 20-30 minutes I find a bit silly and boring. But it could just as easily be used to get past a race that annoys you.

If a race actually consisted of battling with a pack full of cars capable of running the same lap times as you and swapping poistions with them lap after lap, then making the races longer wouldn't really hurt anything. But even if the AI's driving is substantially improved, I think that expecting PD not to structure the career mode around "chase the rabbit" so-called-races is about as realistic as expecting them to include aeroplanes and waterskiing. I'd say the best we can hope for is a proper event creator that lets you populate the field with (hopefully better-driven) cars that are all competitive with you and run as long as you wish in those races.

I don't know if this is a good idea. For most of the races in GT5, the only reason the race is difficult is because it's too short to pass everyone in the few laps available. In that case, adding laps would make things easier, so added awards would not be earned.

I would much prefer the races be longer to begin with, with better AI and car choices, so the races are actually competitive, rather than a race to get to the front.
