Depending on the proposed starting date I might prefer the oval race to be the first. Since it seems that the loadcell in my CSPs is dead and will need replacing and the only race I'd be able to attend is the one that doesn't require brakes ;)

Start and end here ;) final being like 50 - 100 laps. ;)

You're bonkers!

Glad to see there's interest in the day-to-night-to-day transition race at La Sarthe, I'd really like to do that as the third race so I think we'll plan on it. I'm planning for all the races to be 45-50 minutes in length which should require a pitstop (need to do a little more testing on tire-wear). I don't want to make the pitstop mandatory so I'm going to try to make the races long enough that tire-wear will force a pitstop to be necessary. No double-header's or reverse grid this season and we'll only being doing 4 weeks with everyone dropping their 1 worst finish (so 3 races will count for points).

I plan to be on at some point but I have a lot of racing to watch today! GP2, F1, IndyCar and Continental Tire Challenge.

Wait. You got a wheel, pedals, triple monitors and you still want to "watch" racing when you could be racing. Pffft ;)

Heck yeah! I'm a junkie, plus they're going to be some good races and they motivate me to bust out GT5. I'll probably watch IndyCar later tonight so I should be on later this afternoon.

So like what time are we talking about, Im having a lazy sunday so all I have to do is set up booby traps in the back yard. I think I have a predator lurking around or maybe a gofer, one of the two.

Hahahahaha sounds fun.

I bet it's a raccoon, those dudes are clever!!

I should be on around 3:30 or 4pm EDT (about an hour and a half from now).

My sig is ready to give you some free advertising. :D Any idea as to when we'll start racing?

Also, you guys are welcome to come to the Capp Cup finale, anyone not currently in the series has a chance to win a car ;)

Hadn't really driven Motegi at race speed yet, so I figured I might as well learn the track in the Silvia. I really liked Motegi in previous versions of GT and I think it'll make an exceptional racing track in GT5 with several passing zones. Did a couple of high 2:06's and a bunch of low 2:07's but there's room for improvement in learning the in's and out's of the track. Also went to Tsukuba and managed a best of 59.7 with steady low 1:00's being the norm. Takes a few laps to really get the tires dialed in too, so don't expect fastest laps until lap 4 or 5 at Tsukuba.

Really looking forward to the start of the season, or even the pre-season and I have a question about the oval. For the oval race only, are we going to adopt more of a Nascar type of passing rule, where if there is any overlap at all at corner entry you need to leave a lane for the car overlapping, or are we going to stick with the full GTP rule of being up to the driver's position at the turn in? My preference would be to lean towards the Nascar type of rule to encourage more passing as it's tough to get a run and enough overlap to pass here under the usual GTP Rules.

For the preseason I'd like to suggest one of the shorter versions of Motegi and perhaps GVE Forward or Reverse.

^ So you're saying if the car on the inside has just his front bumper past the lead car then the lead car has to yield the inside line?

In a draft race such as an oval. This only make sense. Not like the guy is going to run away from you. You will be able to return the pass a lap or two later. Maybe even next turn. LoL

Be careful though. Some may not see you on the inside and you go down into them and you may go around. LoL

It just seems like a self-correcting problem to me: if you move down and a guy has his front inside your rear bumper then you have just performed a PIT maneuver on yourself and you're going to spin.

We've done several races at Motegi oval now and I don't think we've had a single crash (even when we went three wide through the turns) so I don't see this being much of an issue honestly.

Hello guys, I would like to join the club. Is there a registration form to fill out?

There will be a new thread for the Silvia Cup (with a signup form) soon, hopefully by this weekend.

Yes, that's what I'm saying:) That's how the good ole' boys do it. I haven't raced on the track at all so I don't know if it's possible to get enough run on the straight to get up to the driver's position by the turn in point. If it is, or if you can get up to parallel then this is a moot point, but if it's hard to get any overlap you have to do something or there won't be a lot of passing it'll be follow the leader. I'm sure a test race or two will show us the right way to go.

Oh, there's been plenty of passing in the test races we've done. Straights are long enough to get a good draft but not be excessive like Indy. You can easily get side-by-side, if not totally complete the pass. It's really a dream for oval racing. 👍

Thanks man. JP recommended I join. So there is no tuning, we are running the silvia s15 rm, sports soft tires, and points are your 3 best out of 4 rounds.

Something else I'm planning on doing this season is a rolling start for all races. This will hopefully prevent massive 🤬-ups in the first turn of the race since we'll have slightly warmer tires and have more time to setup/plan for the turn. Also, this car is kinda tricky to get going from a stand-still so a rolling start will do away with burnouts in the starting box.

There are multiple ways to do this, but you know I like simple and easy. The easiest way I can come up with to do this is that everyone will pull away after "3..2..1..GO!" and proceed to do a pace lap at around 100mph/160kph. We will do this for one lap (being careful not to crash anyone) and when the front row reaches the first starting block on the front straight (the white box on the track that the final starting position would start from) that is when we will go green. I don't want to go green at a certain time on the timer or have to pick a different spot on each track, too much work. But every track has starting blocks painted on the front stretch so when the leaders get to the starting block for P16 we all go green. Make sense? Questions/Concerns?

^ Blocks on the ground? And how you're gonna police it from complaints (driver X jumped the start cause his preferred field of view shows the blocks a bit earlier)?
I'd pick either something standard in some popular RL series (say, Indy), or something simple to verify: you're allowed to take off once the counter for lap2 starts for you, before that you must be in gear X and have no overlap with the car ahead (doing no more than Y mph).

The white boxes painted on the front straight that designate where the cars start. These should be in the same location from every field of view and can easily be verified by watching the replay. I refuse to have people start at a certain time on the timer because people should be watching the track/cars in front of them and not the clock.

If I make everybody wait until their counter for lap2 starts then people in the back of the pack just sit and watch the front half of the field pull away because they can't accelerate until they've started their second lap. The way real life series do it, like Indy Car, is when the front row reaches a certain point on the track then the whole field goes green and that's what I'm trying to accomplish.

Learned about ORCA from Jp and was wondering if I too can join in on the fun?

Yep! Stay tuned for more details on what we'll be doing and when we'll be starting, and welcome to ORCA. 👍
