Want a realistic racing experience?

Race a real car, no game will ever be close.

Already got rid of my copy.
Gaming isn't a "replacement" for IRL experiences. Real race car drivers play virtual racing games, as do football/baseball/hockey/bowlers/etc... of their IRL sport. It's something to pass the time, to compete in a virtual world. I have a nice IRL sports car, gaming doesn't replace that experience and driving my car doesn't replace gaming.
Just saying...

Terrible, but I was not expecting this game to be good. Completely unplayable with controller. Very, very poor coding for the analogue steering.

I wont bother playing it again unless it becomes vastly improved after an update.

There's a lot of people complaining about how their controllers feel, yet you can customize the sensitivity aside from assigning different buttons no? Doesn't tweaking the different settings improve it?

Lots of people complained about controller settings in the first few days but after tweaking the settings and realizing this was a sim and not GT where all the cars tend to feel quite similar, they have adapted and are now enjoying the game. @MrGrado didn't expect the game to be good however, and his expectations were realized. Things often work out that way.

Well, I got the game.. :ill:

The 18.1 gig install took a while. I saw in the cover there's a code for getting points that can be used for gifts.. okay then. Hooked up a connection, and told to download a 260 MB update. I come a while later, launch the game and it tells me to download a 480-something MB download. I select 'Yes' and **** off from my room for a while...

Game finally launches, at least 3 or 4 screens before the intro starts... and the intro makes me go WOW...

I launch the game.... okay... I'm trying to stay as calm and cool as I write my first impressions 👎👎👎

The menus will give you a headache you can't imagine.

After spending nearly an hour going to a race then exiting back to the control menu to try out different tweaks, I give up.

Sound - The engine and race sounds are barely average. The road-going MP-12C actually sounded good, but not the SLS AMG or RUG whatever it's called. Terrible. Sound of wind sounds like a bunch of cans are rattling behind your car like one of those "Just Married" cars. Why do ALL road-cars have a transmission whine even though you can't change gear ratios at all? :banghead: Go over curbs, and you're going to be treated to popping sounds as if the game's about to freeze or crash.

Graphics - downright ugly. Abysmal. Aside from the road surface looking half-decent and nice reflections and rain effects, everything feels pre-X360. This looks and feels like a console-Shift 2 version running at 60 fps. Pop up and bad filtering everywhere. :irked: What the heck is up with the bumper cam? It looks like the car's about to take off... points high and you just don't feel the car leaning into corners or dipping/rising while picking up/dropping speed. Where's the sense of speed? NONE.

Control - I'm at a loss for words. On a controller, this game cannot be called a simulator. The cars behave like they're behaving against gravity or being limited by some kind of magnetic field. Donuts feel almost exactly like GAS... nothing realistic. Handling is twitchy and unpredictable as dog poo. The brakes never lock up? Seriously... ? All assists off and no lock ups? Typical Shift 2 model. Still the same turn and pivot crap.EXACT same wobbly control as Shift 2 as you come to a stop or start to slide and then stop.

In the one hour I experienced PCARS on my near-brand new X1 "new gen" console, this was an experience that made me want to gag and throw up every second. And I will take this opportunity to say Forza has sent a benchmark on consoles, and PCARS can't hold a stick to it. No chance at all. Poor and laughable attempt at a console sim. It's a glorified Shift 2 game with minor touch ups.

I was on the phone with the person who sold it to me. He's not taking it back. I stepped out looking for retailers who'd get it off me.. nearly got into a bad accident.. was so furious while driving.

On my 4th attempt was at this retail shop.. and ran into an old gym buddy of mine who knew the retailer. He'd give me COD AW (used or brand new, whatever's available) by Monday at $5 extra. YES... I'm paying $5 to get this off my hands and HAPPY about it.

What an embarrassment to the X1 hardware. After you see Forza 5 running at 60 fps... this is not what I'd call competition.

Three delays (or was it 2?) and the developer comes up with this GARBAGE on the X1? Completely half-arsed, unacceptable PIECE OF S*** game.

Please don't throw away your hard-earned cash on this game. If you have a PC, get a wheel and see if you like it. I'm not going to comment on the PS4 version.

As far as X1 is concerned, stay away at all costs. This game depressed the hell outta me... it looked like an upgrade from Race Pro on the X360.

Utter bollocks.... this entire time I was giong from shop to shop, asking retailers to take it off my hands... I was thinking about how badly I wanted to let loose a can of insults about this game on GT.planet!!:lol:

SMS is not getting away with it this time. The on-track experience of PCARS sucks a**. I took a chance on Shift 2 and PCARS... and they're practically the same. Not much has changed since S2, I assure you.

I'd again strongly urge you to save your cash, the cash you worked so hard to earn... and stay away from this poor attempt at a console driving sim. Forza has set a standard, and we're lucky to have an X1 to experience it. FM6.. bring it on baby. :gtpflag:

What a waste of time.... I'm going to have a nice meal now followed by a soothing cup of green tea with lemon and honey. Gotta calm these nerves.

Edit: after I exit the game, my connection to XLive is gone and it can't connect. I got into settings, the system almost hangs for over a minute. I try to restart, it takes over 2 mins.

If you have the option to completely customize the controller, then you can't state a bad 'out of the box' feel is a gamebreaker. I would understand such a point if you would be stuck with it and there would be no way of altering it, but that isn't the case here.

How come I knew this will end up this way from a mile away? :)
You knew everything about it for a while, so not sure how can you be so surprised. The pad issues will be patched soon though, just in case you are not in the loop somehow...

You need a wheel that's what sims are played with, This is not GT or Forza that are built around control pads.

PC and wheel here. I read that the Xbone version was the worst of the bunch with regards to hiccups and out of the box controller feel, but you make it sound like it's a different game altogether

For me, and i own a bunch of racing games also FM4 and FH2, this is hands down the best racing game i've played since GT4 ten years ago. In your case i would advise to just wait until the Xbone version is ironed out and get a wheel, because the FFB is incredible on mine. Also how can you say the graphics are pre 360? The eyecandy in this game is the best i have ever experienced.

Comparing it to Shift 2 just proves how much shoot you are talking.

Would have been better just to admit sim racing games are not for you.

I do not believe you are well-informed enough to know of my tastes in games. My love affair with sims started with a game called "Revs" on the 80s Micro-computer, followed by Race Drivin' in the late 80s/early 90s arcades, the original NFS and everything on the PC from the 90s until the turn of the century.

PCARS on a controller feels like no sim. I've pushed a few cars over the edge IRL, not on a track though, and I can assure you this is NOT how cars react under heavy breaking or acceleration, or the way the game replicates steering. Complete gober.

Maybe on a wheel, its a different story.

How come I knew this will end up this way from a mile away? :)

I'm not aware that it will be patched; I'm not hanging on to the game to find out. The graphics and audio are enough to make me want to get rid of this trash from my HDD.

Rubbish! Why not bundle the game with a wheel only? Or advertise on the cover: works better with a wheel or "best experienced with a wheel and pedal setup".

It's no sim. Not on a controller. Same arcade crap ala Shift 2.

I'm not exaggerating at all. I'm putting these negative thoughts very mildly. I swear I want to find the SMS devs right now and punch them all in the face for insulting the X1 this way!

Do you own PCARS on X1? No? You're on PC you say? OF COURSE it looks good.. it's on PC! Read again, I have the X1 version. Sorry if I'm being rude... but this pissed me off... have you played the X1 version to see how bloody UGLY it is?!!

Play FM5, then get back to me on the PCARS X1 visuals.

Where's the sense of speed? NONE.
Entirely adjustable by the field of view setting.
The brakes never lock up? Seriously... ? All assists off and no lock ups?
The default setups have reduced brake pressure to accommodate inexperienced players (stupid, but relatively simple to fix).

I don't have much else to say without playing the game myself, but I just wanted to point these things out.

I hope you get the console too. Play FM5 first, then find out for yourself how lame PCARS is on the X1. Even if the control's fixed, I'd never want to play this game because of the horrible visuals and average sounds.

Are you on one of the console versions? On a pad?
I am, PS4 and with a pad.

If yes, do you really think these are acceptable standards for a console sim? Especially when you can go right to Forza?
Yes (and I can't go to Forza) and while I can only speak for the PS4 version its more than enough of a sim on this platform.

And have locked the brakes up plenty of times?

Its interesting to see such drastic opinions on a game.

These responses are all over the place. If I hadn't played both PC and PS4 versions, I would think this game was crap!

Fortunately I find it quite good and while it needs some fixes, it has giving me tons of fun from a racing game

Thank you. It's been quite a while since I laughed so hard at something on the internetz.:lol:

Poll:

How many X1 owners out there?

How many of you on a pad?

You *seriously* think this game is acceptable in terms of physics, graphics and audio, even if control is tweaked to perform optimally?

It would seem that you have an agenda!

You can make of it whatever you wish. No sane person with decent gaming standards is going to accept this on an X1 + pad as an enjoyable game.

Still thinking about those dreadful visuals.. want to throw up right now. *excuse me*

There are no dramatic opinions. Mostly everyone agrees that it's the best sim on current gen platforms. Also, most people agree that the game is better experienced on a wheel. Also, Xbox pad is even worse tha ps4 pad. Some people just expected something else, or just had a predetermined mindset before they got the game, so that minority has a different opinion.

there was a time the other night where I almost wanted to try the game out with the DS4 and not my wheel but then thought, naaah, I'm too elitist now. I've left that world behind and can never go back.

although I'm still tempted just to know for sure if the game really is 'unplayable' with a pad, but I know it just can't be.

That makes sense. They screwed up the control on the X1 pad. Finally some acknowledgement.

I did had somewhat of a predetermined mindset: I was ready to accept that graphics will not be as good as Forza, audio won't be as good... but physics... I wasn't expecting the Shift 2 model to find its way into PCARS with a few touch ups here and there.

Well, from what I've learned (apparently), the game stinks like rotten gober on the X1 pad but not on the DS4. So there you are. Are you happy with the visuals on PS4?

The Xbox pad has a serious bug with this game, I think it's not present on ps4 version, which if it's like PC, should be playable just fine with some small tweaks Based on personal preference

If you think graphics, audio and physics are better on Forza, there is not much we can do for you. I'm not sure why you got the game, it does seem like you already made your mind up ahead of time

Poll:

How many X1 owners out there?

How many of you on a pad?

You *seriously* think this game is acceptable in terms of physics, graphics and audio, even if control is tweaked to perform optimally?

You can make of it whatever you wish. No sane person with decent gaming standards is going to accept this on an X1 + pad as an enjoyable game.

Still thinking about those dreadful visuals.. want to throw up right now. *excuse me*
Must be a lot of insane people here on GTP.:dunce::crazy:

How come gravel and sand slows me down like I'm hitting a tree in GTA but the other cars can reach warp speed over it?

Reminds me a lot of the ToCa games. The early ones. Which is a good thing. Absolutely beautiful so I can forgive most of its quirks.

Well, from what I've learned (apparently), the game stinks like rotten gober on the X1 pad but not on the DS4. So there you are. Are you happy with the visuals on PS4?
yes, mostly. the tearing irks me sometimes but it's not terrible in-race, replays on the other hand could do with some work if possible. my biggest gripe with the visuals are these strange dark lines moving across the track and gravel traps which seem to stem from shadow details or something. it's very odd and someone posted some pics a few days ago. as you get close to them they fade away from you. that's really the only thing that distracts me when racing, the ghosting is no bother to me.

Looking forward to getting it on Xbox One, hoping to have one decent driving simulation game with a pad on there, FM5 controls drive me mad, I guess that is why I'm insane enough to want pCARS...
