PENALTY SYSTEM IS STILL A PIECE OF ****!!!

I tried one race today, already enough to piss me off. One driver kept bumping and pushing people onto the grass into the wall while trying to overtake in the chicane. Then he has the nerve to say learn about inside and outside lanes. Of course no penalties so he thinks he's in the clear and it works (Race A) GTS is simply not fun anymore. Either you get BS penalties or rammed off the road without the dirty driver getting a penalty. It's 100% wrong now, worst version so far.

I'll sample Brand's hatch tomorrow but I think I'll stick to Dirt Rally 2 and Dreams instead of getting frustrated by GTS almost every race now. The good races are becoming a needle in a pile of manure since the last patch.

Well, technically he went through me... So I didn't hit him, pushed him, punted him.... Nothing. He was a ghost because of dive-bombing... I didn't play any role whatsoever beyond being a target that he missed due to ghosting :dunce:

So, it's worse than I thought. Even when the system does its job (ghosting), it finds a way to fail. :banghead:

I've concentrated on Race B this weekend and it's been a yo-yo experience. I was clawing my up the DR B rank to just over 13K points and a few disastrous dirty races later I was well and truly back in DR C. However, two good results later and I'm back in DR B again - phew! But luck was not to last and with a good shove off the track and a 5 second penalty later, I found myself losing 2039 points in one race and I'm back in DR C land again.:ill:

In the next race I managed to gain 8 places from grid position, yet only increased my points by 403. In the next I jumped 5 places and gained 81 points.

Apologies for having bored you with facts, but my gripe is that it seems so hard to progress up the ladder, only to lose substantially more when you're forced into last place by demolition man.

Has anyone else shared the same experience and does Valium help?

Probably not. Lol.

Next time when you reach DR B, walk away lol. It is rough around here. I had enough this week. I went up to 17K only to go back down to 14K.

I find it best to not focus on stats/numbers/ranking before or after races and try to enjoy the game. I've only looked at my KP profile a handful of times since I started playing.

With a broken penalty system, luck whether you race with clean opponents or not and whatever else are factors outside your control, I can't say a DR number is the truest reflection of one's skill level anyway.

At this point with Polyphony making a joke of the penalty system SR/DR is not even close of being reflective of the type of driver one is.

Yep Megane's hatch, no different. Punt a couple people off, get clean race bonus. Get bumped wide in a corner, get 2 sec penalty. B/S in the backfield is a lot of BS. One race I finished 5th (from last) without actually overtaking anyone, the next I do overtake a few people cleanly only to get taken out and get the penalty for it. Hopefully we get a patch before Big Willow. Finally a decent GR.3 race on that track, yet with the current penalty system and screwed up SR rankings, it's going to be dirt rally next week.

Forget about hard tyres, I think we're going to need dirt tyres available next week.

I qualified for BH and near the front of the field, it's not as bad so far after 3 races. People still attempt to make ridiculous attempts at passing and with patience not a virtue in a 4 lap race, barge their way through but less chaotic than at the back where everyone takes each other out during the first few sectors.

I did see someone ahead get a 5 sec penalty for pit-maneuvering a car off the track at Dingle Dell although didn't see many others picking up penalties besides 0.5 sec for exceeding track limits. Also saw a few people make clear punts at Clark Curve and Paddock Hill with no penalties which unsurprisingly suggests it's not working as intended. It's like the current system detects everyone as brake checking the car behind.

I think that's a good call and a conclusion I've reached over the last couple of days. For me, it's was a matter of pride being a DR B and progressing up the ranks after two months online, but sadly I'm back in high C and am starting not to give a damn while the system is in the mess it is currently.

The Red Bull Junior this week seems fun with two relatively clean races completed. In the second I'd moved up from 15th to 8th and then overcooked the double bend before the bridge. Hands up, my silly mistake and no blame on the penalty system. I can live with my mistakes though.

2 small incidents on Race B this lunchtime.

One was a car nudging my inside rear corner and falling off the track at the entry to Clarke Curve, but somehow managing to maintain full control on the grass and get past me; 1 second penalty for causing a collision and SR down arrow. Lose a place, too!

Same car brake checks me going into Sheen's on the next lap. I tap their rear, they fly off, 2 second penalty and SR down for me.

Total loss of 14 SR points. Now down to 85.

Shouldn't really expect anything but gaming the system when it is, after all a game!

I hopped into a race yesterday just to check on the penalty status. Wow, still a mess.

I raced Brand's without qualifying just to see what the backfield was like and it was as aggressive as I imagined. I ended up having to bin a few people just because they were constantly rubbing and bumping everyone to the extent that I just couldn't trust them through any turns. I PIT-clipped dive bombers at Surtees and Stirling knowing that they weren't planning on holding the inside line. Meanwhile everyone kept draft bumping and then consequently overshooting their exit into the cat litter on every turn from Hawthorne's through to Stirling. I moved from 16th to 8th place just from collecting all off track drivers and exploiting donkey position fights.

Another clean race bonus. *shrug*

I just started playing again after a little hiatus.
Soo... what, theres like no penalties now? Just raced in race A and literally was shoved off track twice, no penalties given to anyone.
Weird.

I was shoved off the track last night and got a 5 sec penalty for hitting the barrier. So, there's that.

Last lap of Race B, in a B/S room this morning. Had worked my way up to 3rd in the WRX, from 16th. Coming into Paddock Hill Bend, with a Megane .4 behind. I brake at my usual spot, around the 140 mark, and towards the inside of the track to stop a potential dive bomb.

Bang..............off into the kitty litter, and drop to 7th.

The punter, who finished 6 seconds ahead of me in 3rd got no penalty and a blue S at the end.

Called them out, and got the usual 'you brake checked me'. Asked if they were proud to gain a place in that fashion? Their response, well, I didn't receive a penalty so it was clean.

WTF?????

At the start of last night, I was high enough DR C that I was in a couple of mixed lobbies. In D & C lobbies, people are generally reckless and unaware. Yes, you'll have the occasional 🤬 who will purposely punt you but in my experience they're not the majority. In my mixed B/C lobbies last night it was fairly standard for someone to push me off the track because they wanted my place. It's like people are literally thinking that this is the proper way to race and overtake. Without damage, a reasonable penalty system or anything in the driving school about racecraft, people are being taught that drunken kart racing *is* racing.

Yeah, there's the sense of entitlement which really grates!

3 race B's on the NA server, again from the back and pushing for top 5 places in all 3 races.

Race 1 got a red S due to someone hitting me on the left rear going into Clark Curve. This was on Lap 2 as I had just made it up to 5th. There was a ghosted car in the middle of the track. I was as far right as possible, and a full car ahead of them but they wanted that racing line that wasn't there. They slam into me, they take another car off to their left, I get the 4 second penalty. I did recover to finish 3rd due to shenanigans ahead, but a red S for no fault of my own.

Race 2 was uneventful. Finished 6th and got a CRB.

Race 3 got a 5 second penalty from the pole sitter who had binned it on the previous lap (lap 2), trying to undertake me on the entrance to Westfield. They dive bomb, slam my inside, lose control and go off to the inside of Westfield. Penalty for me which got served on lap 3. I did manage to hold onto 3rd due to the bumper cars behind. The pole sitter ended with a blue S.

At the end of the race they called me special!! And promptly left before I could respond.

Fast? Yes. Race Craft? Highly doubtful!

All cars that took me out were Megane's. Entitlement again, eh?

C/S is reckless as you say, but B/S is calculated and pure gaming the system.

Still, nice to finish well ahead of most meta cars and be the highest placed non-meta.

Part of the problem racing with the GR4 Megane is that it has incredible brakes and you need to rely on them to get a fast lap, that means the braking points are way different than other cars. You really need to plan your overtakes without bumping other cars in the braking zone, I usually drop back back a little before the corner and use momentum to pass on exit with the Megane.

I went for the gap.
I'm still not sure if the guy close the door on me on purpose or did he just not saw me. Anyway the end result is me getting a penality because he felt it was unfair.

On first view, it looked like he was just unaware. The second time, it looked intentional. Now, that may have been biased by the end of the video when he intentionally rams you in the hairpin. But either way, he's a 🤬

Yeah, I've yet to have a Megane use that clean strategy. All just wanna bump pass into, in and out the corner.

The WRX does pull very well on corner exit, so the Megane has trouble passing cleanly/fairly.

The first hit seems unintentional. There was a lag spike due to someone disconnecting. When that happens it throws people off. That lag probably threw off his judgement. I had that happen once after a corner no less.

The second one I’m not sure.

After a month off and not seeing the update I had a go on Sport Mode last night. Not pretty. I was rusty but thought with some penalty system things wouldnt still be as wild west as they are. 3 times I got a penalty for being on the outside at a turn. Twice was because even though I was on the apex the person behind pretty much cut the corner to get me. No penalty for the corner cut since obviously I hit them. Ummmm, they only hit me because they cut, not the other way around. Still stinks, but I did see plenty of penalties at turn 1 when the bowling ball 🤬 would plow through the crowd. Usually 1 second for them and more for the punted though.

Are we expecting too much? Can they just install a previous version that worked better? I am not the type to game the system so this kills me. Was even checking behind on one pass to make sure I didnt give the other person the penalty because it was a tight pass and thought there was contact. I need to pick up a different game or change my style if this doesnt change.

Absolutely this, it makes racing cleanly extremely tricky to the point this week you're literally penalised for not using the Trophy. It's like a multi-class endurance race where the LMP guys moan at GT and vice versa.

I've had penalties tonight for being 'divebombed' when in reality the Mégane is probably on a normal braking point as am I, why I get the penalty is beyond me of course but I can at least understand why contact is happening especially into the first hairpin.

And then this happens and I get a 7 second penalty...

I'm in the NSX, thought I'd pulled off an absolute hero save from the PIT attempt and get smacked with a 7 second penalty...

The idiots even drive like clowns during the warm-up period - WHY?????? You just know it's going to be a crash fest even before the race itself begins.
I often drive like a bit of an idiot in warm up, just to get it out of my system. I use qualifying trial to learn consistency, in warmup I consider it as a minute or so to test if I can brake 5m later here, carry 5mph more through there, or whatever.

I'm not out there ramming people but I'm not really bothered by contact or silly driving in warmup, it's the most harmless time to push your luck around other cars.
