yeesh, sorry about my thread kicking off an import vs. domestic pissing match :yuck:

Even if I may be an idiotic GM/Ford supporter, I can always appreciate the power/handling balance that Honda has managed to get right with so many of their cars. Although I personally wouldn't be playing with turbos and such (I don't find them "necessary"), its still a very nice car nevertheless... "Clean" would be the word I'd generally use to describe it.

Hey, if I could find a halfway decent Integra (ie, not modified or too beat up), I'd highly consider using it to replace my now-defunct Jetta.

*sigh*

Damn Michigan folks for only driving Domestics and Volkswagens...

thanks, YSSMAN! It really is tough to find a decent integra that you know hasn't been beat up on. If you can find one it's great, good gas mileage, reliable, easy to work on with plenty of parts available, comfortable, etc. I did notice whenever I travel through the northern midwest to northeast states that there are a TON of VW's for some reason. I swear the north houses 90% of the VW's in the country.

So you're comparing a stock Integra to a modified Chevelle? You can make any engine sound good regardless of where it came from or the number of cylinders it has.

Sharp car jester. Like stated before, well built and clean đź‘Ť. I like it. How do you like those Koni yellows? I've been considering a set for my car... Kind of apples to oranges, but they should be basicly the same shocks.

BTW, do you have any videos of it? I'd love to hear how it sounds.

appreciate the compliment, RTA. If you're not looking to drop a ton of money into suspension, the Koni's w/ springs are actually pretty nice. They aren't harsh at all, it rides well and they definitely feel a lot better than stock. For a mild suspension setup I don't think you can go wrong with the Koni's especially for the price you can get them for. I'm happy with them but I'm certain I'll be swapping them out with a full set of coilovers at some point.

I'll try and get a video up soon, can't do anything too interesting with it right now until I get a good tune but I'll get one up for you when I get chance :)

Thanks, revheadnz! I might take it to the 1/4 once just to see what it does, more out of curiosity than anything. Same thing with the track, there's one close by me so after I get a little bit of experience on it with another car I'll think about taking the Integra out for a spin. I'm just WAY too inexperienced to risk finishing the car just to put it into a barrier. :nervous: I just want to finish it first and then worry about how I'm going to potentially wreck it :)

I can understand the sentiment there :).

Does it only need a good tune to be up and running or is there further tidying up that needs to be done? Front bumper maybe...:dopey:

It's going to be semi-sleeper if you are just going to roll on the standard wheels with a mostly hidden IC. People don't expect an ITR to be slow but one with double the standard power would give anything short of total exotica a shock.

Tune is the main thing really as far as mechanical stuff goes, there is a lot of minor stuff to be addressed but it's not a big deal (mostly cosmetic). I'm going to get the downpipe on it this weekend and hopefully get the intercooler adjusted and have the bumper on there. I'm just on a pretty heavy schedule at work right now so I don't have much time for anything at the moment but I'm determined to have it done by spring. Fortunately there isn't much left to do except some details and I'm all set!

Should be pretty low key though, I don't want it to be flashy. I haven't fitted the bumper yet but I'm fairly certain the IC won't be too visible as you said, definitely prefer a sleeper look. It'll be nice to get this pile of stuff and everything else I have laying around into use.

[subliminal post] You should get this exhaust if it's any good for turbo, because it sounds awesome.

hah, that is incredibly loud. I like my Apexi though, it sounds really nice and isn't going to draw a lot of attention, I'd prefer to not be a target for the police so I'll probably pass on that one! :)

I had to get my 'teg from a man who bought it from an elderly lady in Massachusetts, it's next to impossible to find one here, in good shape. Glad I did though, nothing ever goes wrong with the car. I've had it for more than a year now, and not a single problem yet.

yeah there are good ones out there, just takes a bit of searching to find them. I think it's worth the wait though, at least you know you're bound to have fewer problems with it as opposed to just settling for one that some kid beat the hell out of every single time he sat in the car. That's why I was glad to have the fortune of picking up my Type R, especially with such low mileage. I just rolled over 35,000 miles, not bad for an 11 year old car eh?

Well given that Volkswagen is my second-favorite company, I don't have much of a problem with the massive numbers made available to me at any point in time... But yes, the otherwise lack of anything else "interesting" can be a bit boring at times.

One recalls two Type-Rs in the neighborhood:

- One, an "origional" and un-modified version I only see in the summer. Its the usually more rare yellow (right?), and it always seems to be babied just a bit. I attempted to play games with him once in the Wolfsburg, but he wouldn't have it. Spoilsport...

- The other, a modified Acura RSX that has completely (as far as I can tell) been swapped out to Honda Integra-R specifications. The first time I saw it I had to double-take, I could have sworn that it was imported, but after having a better look at it you can tell that a lot of work had been done. Still, a beautiful car, driven pretty hard, but only in the warmer months of the year.

Meh, I used to "race" kids in Civics and Integras all the time. They'd usually think they were pretty bad-ass with their new exhaust and oversized rims against what was pretty much a stock Jetta, but I'd say about seven times out of ten they had no idea how to drive stick, or sadly, had slushboxes. With a few extra ponies, I'd usually be able to "win" I suppose.

The Jetta was "quick" but certainly not "fast." I think the 'TOPGEAR' plate made it seem a bit better than what it was...

I can manipulate my "slushbox" (which is an overstatement for a Honda AT, they shift roughly by nature, but with my synthetic ATF it feels more smooth), to match manual times for the most part. Just shift through the gears on the shifter manually, rather than let the transmission decide for you in the D-settings. I used to have a Nismo license plate on my Altima, that definitely added 5hp ;)

I'm jealous! Here's my gauges when I brought it home on the first day I bought mine:

Let there be light! I have my headlights hooked up so I can finally drive at night with it now :) I also got my wastegate spring back from a friend of mine who was borrowing it so I can boost now too. On Wednesday I plan on relocating the horn so I can get my bumper support mounted, move the intercooler up a bit and getting the front bumper on. Hopefully I can get the downpipe on there too if I have enough time.

I didn't have much time this morning before work but I got my bumper support mounted and I moved around a couple things for the sake of clearance. The intercooler still needs to be moved up, just didn't have time to do it. I was checking what I needed to do up there so I threw the front bumper on for a second, I want this thing on immediately :) The left side was hanging off and not aligned at all so I very cleverly took a picture from the side that was somewhat straight:

Your ITR is a very tidy looking car, even if it is a bit dirty. Leave the current wheels on, they look good on it. You could also make a nice profit selling the stock wheels to someone, I'm sure.

He bought those stock wheels, they didn't come on the car.

And those stock wheels are probably a few times stronger and higher quality than those rotas on there now.

Clean up the paint a little, and my God, that will be one sexy car. Like I've said before, I'm not the biggest fan of cars like these, but you've got a good one there. I'm very jealous indeed!

Rotas are fine. I know people who track them and autocross them with no trouble.

What you can't do is powdercoat them, which requires baking at a high enough temperature to reduce the strength of the alloy, and then expect them to hold up to high stresses.

You do realize that other than the wheels, the exterior is a stock Honda Integra Type R?

How can you not really like car "like these" yet like this one? (which is stock on the outside) Doesn't it look like nearly every single other one you've seen?

I never said they aren't strong, I just said they aren't as strong as the stock ones.

I will always hate rotas though, I rarely see a company that copies wheels to such an extent as rota. They have a HUGE lineup of wheels and nearly every (if not every) is a obvious rip-off of another wheel.

Which is why budget racers like them. Some people would rather get twice as many wheels with better rubber for competition spares than worry about whether they are made of pure Ray's JDM unobtainium.

More like unobtainium. If I could afford a nice set of JDM wheels I only use them for shows or just leave them sitting in my room and watch their values go up slowly and steadily. Those stock ITR wheels he bought are worth more than many people would expect, actually.

Meh, I'm just not a big fan of the standard wheels. I never said they wouldn't be decent, I just thought it looks good as it is.

Aren't most of them riced out?

or at least a significant enough portion to not make it nearly every single other one?

Usually the people who convert their car's to the JDM front end don't rice them out. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a riced out one.
