You would be surprised the lap times drivers on controllers can lay down. I have seen @Chad151515 lay down consecutive LR's on controller. Plus, the other advantage to using a controller over a wheel is how fast you can go from lock-to-lock.

However, I think this is an interesting proposal and am curious to see what the others think.

I used a controller from March of last year to this past October. I have picked up pace from the wheel and my tire degradation is considerably better. That being said some tracks benefit controller users and I think its easier to save a car from spinning on a controller. I think speed wise is close enough one class is fine.

@Alex ONeill & Myself will be teaming up this season, under our old flag: Le Deplorable's

Some of you will see this in a few places:

This Sunday May 28, 2017 is a SNAIL vacation day and I want to know if any of you SODS (Snails On the Dark Side) would be interested in running a two-combo Sunday Snail-type simulation on Project Cars as a fun filled holiday event. Since we don't have much time to plan, I will set out the game plan, and ask a few opinions here and there.

Pleas make your way to the Snail Holiday Event Discussion to view your opinion and confirm if you want to participate.

Why's that?

I Confirm for the next race

I just don't have any fun. I can't control the cars for the life of me, no matter how much I read settings on web pages and set ups for the cars. I just can't find a comfort zone.

Just takes some patience and persistence. I couldn't control the Ford Focus when I first started playing this game. It's very satisfying once you start to get comfortable with car control, when you feel like you can actually race people cleanly. Without being "fast", control and relative consistency is a great accomplishment in this title. Keep at it man, you can get there.

I know I have the ability. I just don't like how ever damn car spins out. It doesn't make any sense. I've adjusted for wheel spin or tried. At one point I had a 5% sensitivity on throttle and a 10% throttle dead zone and other stuff via car setup. Still spin out. I just don't get it.

Slow down. Seriously.

What happens is you are pushing the car too hard in the turns and naturally using more wheel input than you should in order to keep the car on line. You're far exceeding the optimum slip angle of the front tires. Now once the car decelerates enough to unload the front suspension (assuming a spin out on an overcooked turn entry), the fronts quickly gain grip with waaay too much steering input. If the rear end does not have the lateral grip to cope with how quickly the fronts want to turn the car, they exceed their slip angle and the car spins out. Same thing happens on exit. If you're overcooking the middle of the turn and using too much wheel input, the front become unloaded and regains grip quickly as soon as you apply throttle and the chassis weight moves to the rear. With too much wheel in it, the car spins out.

Also, I think you may be running into a problem with your steering sensitivity being too low. I understand the need to keep it down on a controller because this game feels extremely sensitive and you're driving can be twitchy if it's set too high. However, if it's too low, your input is very numb and thusly adds to the problem of using too much wheel input while turning. I would suggest setting that to somewhere in the 30-40 range. I know it will feel twitchy at first and maybe a bit of a while, but what you actually NEED to do is TRAIN your hands. You really just have to allow your mind and hands to learn a finer motorskill. Basically, all the custom settings in the world can't replace hard work.

My suggestion is to grab an FR-S and spend some time at the smaller tracks and just work on driving smooth lines and repeating inputs. Spend some time somewhere flat like the short Silverstone (national/international? the one with like 5 turns) and then something like Brands Hatch Indy so you can learn the difference in how elevation changes the attitude of the car and how you have to adapt your steering habits.

So the 1st paragraph makes a lot of sense. I use the breaking line (red, yellow, green line). It helps at times but I might take it off. It's when I go into corners the front will push outside (understeer, I thought) and tires screech. That means im exceeding what the front is able to handle, I get that lol. On exit is when I will spin out because of weight transfer to the back.

My steering sensitivity is at 55 or 60. I come from off-road racing in real life to track. Alex when I met Bret he was the one that first got me onto a track. Such as autocross. Before that I raced off-road in the desert (motorcycles, buggies, trucks) so I'm used to instability or trying to control an out of control car on an out of control road. You think it would be an easy transfer. Nooope lol.

I just need to practice. That's really all that need to happen. Thank you for the info Lessen.

I see. You're accustomed to very quick and jerky adjustments. Smooth is fast on the tarmac. :)

It's funny how that works. I can set a W.R. or close to one on Dirt Rally but can't set a good lap time in Pcars. I think it was Harzard the other day that said: "adjusting suspension a little on the soft side makes the car faster than setting the suspension closer to stiff". That makes sense for the bump stops because that allows for a more plush/smoother ride. Adjusting the springs to soft made a bounce house lol. I think thats where my trouble lies. Finding a proper suspension setup for cornering where as I was used to setting up for large bumps or a crest. Up and down vs left to right. Yadda yadda lol

Also go to your car setup settings and lower your steering ratio (try 16.9.1)

Yes, that gave me better control of the car. It's not like a steering wheel, but it does allow me to make finer movements in my steering, which is helpful.

@Miles B, As for the Over-Power-Oversteer, you need to make the inputs smooth. In real life, the throttle and brakes are on pedals which have much lower throws than triggers or buttons on a controller. Roll-On to the throttle, and Roll-Off. Same with the Brakes. They are not switches, so try not to use them as such. I'll be running with a controller, so I'm pretty sure I'll be on of the slower drivers.
