Hey Moose, got any reviews on it you want to share?

Well I wasn't susposed to say anything but..
I've been playing the Gran Turismo 5 beta!!!!!!!!!

NOT!! LOL!

It's a neat place, you can talk to other people over Blutooth headsets, play games, wach game & movie trailers, Furnish your "apartment" & customize your avatar.
Not a lot to do but they say new stuff will be rolling out so I'm looking forward to seeing just what it'll do.

I can see meeting a bunch of people in Home & then all of us going to play GT5 online.

I came across this nice little news bit off ps3.qj.net:

Phil Harrison Talks About PlayStation Home
Posted Aug 02, 2007 at 06:04PM by Glen D.
It looks like Sony is intensifying its PlayStation Home campaign as more and more news and official comments are hitting the streets. Today, the makers of the massive kingdom to come is interviewed and some new insights are revealed. Check it out:

[click above title link to watch the 15-min interview and new footage of PS Home]

No less than Sony stalwart Phil Harrison himself is giving us the new info on Home. One of the highlights of this video would have to be the part when the question of whether or not Home will be available by year's end. No definite answer was given but a valuable disclaimer was dropped when it was stated that not everything that is Home will drop in one big splash. Like a lot of other MMO games, things will be added in increments to make up the greater whole.

Another cool question which was, in contrast, given a direct answer was on how PlayStation Home will make money. Some players have wondered why PSN and Home are free while other similar services are not. Advertising and corporate partners were two of the three answers, but the most interesting is the third means which is the sale of virtual items. This reminds us of some MMORPGs which are free to play but good have items that are to be paid for.

I have not played the whole 15 minute video, but so far it sounds like things are really progressing as far as Home and many of the new features!

Great info! He really gets put up the wall in the end. But he can handle those situations extremely good. The whole interview is a little weird because it seems it's one Xbox Fanboy and one Wii Fanboy who interviews Phil, which is a Playstation Fanboy.

Any body thats got the beta wanna give us some more information, such an awesome feature i cant wait for its release.

Right now it's pretty basic, games, trailers & meeting people.
I'm looking forward to the time when you can meet a bunch of people & go straight out to GT5 to play online.

This is going to be great for Unreal Tournament 3. It's going to have its own home space for chatting and creating games. Its going to be cool to discuss matches after they finished like you would at a LAN party.

I am most looking forward to the possibility of a GTP Home Space including a meeting area for online versions of GT5 race events, like these. 👍

EDIT: Here is the new Japanese trailer for PS Home:

GameTrailers.com has this trailer in Hi-Def as well, available HERE.

Latest News

  • Home is currently capped at 60 people per room, for frame-rate issue reasons. If we can put in our two cents, we recommend a Phantasy Star Universe approach for the rooms -- players, you know what we mean.

  • Travel between zones is more straightforward than originally planned. You can run as well as walk, or just use the magical PSP interface to warp wherever you want.

  • Many organizations desire Home to completely replace the XMB. That is, when you boot up your PS3, you start off in your room in Home.

  • Work on Home will continue well into next year, so the product we get in October is in no way the final version of the program

I think they should give you the option of booting up directly to HOME. Replacing the XMB should be optional.

Thanks for the update, and I agree about having the option of which nav system you want to use. 👍

I have no idea what “Phantasy Star Universe” is, but I imagine they could support more people in a room by switching visuals from detailed, to just basic when a room has more than 60 people in it.

I don't know what "organizations" they are talking about, but I would be shocked if Sony replaced XMB with Home... it simply doesn't make any sense. Besides, the whole point of Home is to participate in a large online community. XMB is just a operating system software. One wouldn't replace the other. They do different things.

I completely agree with this comment.

I'm sure no matter how hard they try they'll never be able to match how things are organised, easy and fast to get to through the XMB.

It was predictable there would be a limit on the amount of people in a room. But I think 60 would be enough.

actually i'd rather have 10 lag free than 100 laggy

At that same forum numerous beta testers keep saying August 16 is the date for the open beta. That makes sense because the 16th is Thursday and that's when they update the PS store

According to that thread October 2nd or some time shortly thereafter may be the date for the full rollout

Wow! i really hope this is correct, i've had the Home Beta page as a start page for internet explorer since spring. But never been able to sign up.

Do we even know if it will be a world-wide beta or a NA only? I really want to be using in time for GT-Prologue.

I don't think you need to worry about that since Prologue won't be in Europe until 2008.

I apply that rule of thought to all games these days. The bigger and more complex these games get, delays are almost guaranteed with these types of games... and I suspect Home will be delayed for many of the same reasons.

Although, thanks to HDDs and support for software updates & game feature add-ons, at least now developers know they can fix glitches and add features to a game even after its been released, but personally I'd just as well they delay a game and get it close to right the first time out of the box. 👍

I don't think prologue will be downloadable.
I agree. I will be very surprised if GT5:P is offered as a download.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't. There's many large-sized games coming out on PSN in the future (Wipeout HD, Warhawk, LittleBigPlanet, Socom: Confrontation, etc). 40 cars and 4 tracks shouldn't be something that's impossible to download. A few gigabytes at the most.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

x2! If the Warhawk demo includes 5 different maps and up to 32 players, and is only 700 mb, then GT5:P shouldnt be much larger. And Im sure that PD would love to make it a psn download, because they would save a lot of money on packaging costs, and thus maybe make it cheaper.

I'm not that keen on them having all these games for download. Save the HDD for caching data and storing downloads, etc., not for keeping games on (apart from the PSN "arcade" games.

We're just talking about a 2-3GB game (at most, since GTHD with 1 track and 10 cars was 600MB), not something that's 15 GB or something. We have 60GB of space to use, we may as well use it.

And even still, many of the larger sized games like LittleBigPlanet and Socom:C are going to be on an actual disc as well. With GT5P, they should let the people who want to download it do it that way, and let the people who want to buy it in a store do just that.

If your PS3 dies or something, you'll always be able to redownload it once you sign in with your account.

Personally I always take any GT release date with a huge pinch of salt. I'm not dismissing it, rather just not getting to worked up about any date (given the track record from the original GT onwards).

BTW - kekke2000 I've merged your two posts, can you watch for double posting in future 👍

Thanks

Scaff

Mostly though the date is set too early. I think it will be 2008. Thanks for cleaning my mess 👍
