PmC - Week 167 - Closed

I've asked before but didn't get an answer: Does GIMP have something similar to gamma? What does gamma even do?

I have not found gamma in GIMP. If someone knows where it is please let us know.

I believe gamma has to do with determining the "50%" brightness. 100% black and 100% white are easy to define, just put brightness or lightness or whatever of a pixel full off or full on. But how bright should be the pixel that is supposed to be half in between of those two? Since monitors are very different the same image is not displayed the same way in every monitor, in some the 50% brightness is brighter or darker than in others resulting in washed out or too contrasty colors. Gamma correction is used to counter that effect for a target monitor. Since GT4 photos are meant mostly for TV screens that has much more contrast and brightness than a PC monitor they look washed out on PC screen without some correction. Mostly you can achieve this correction by using brightness and contrast, but a separate gamma setting would help.

Then again this could all be totally wrong and I'm sure there is a more general definition of gamma somewhere, this is just stuff that I once googled from here and there.

I'm using GIMP, too and can't find gamma also.. It would be great if someone who knows about gamma in GIMP would let us know..

FINAL ENTRY!:

Before anyone hollers "not realistic", I was watching the 24 hours @ the Ring last year, and they used heli shots pretty extensively in their coverage. That what inspired me for this. why try a realism theme from unrealistic angles? plus, I don't see much racing in this week yet. (not knocking anyone else, just saying why i did what i did)

Long story...read 2.0 here for the reason this is allowed.
